This is the eighth lawsuit against Combs since November – the seventh directly accusing him of sexual assault. Another lawsuit accused his son Christian Combs of sexual assault, and Sean Combs is accused of aiding and abetting. Lampros claims that Combs raped her after she “pleaded with Mr. Combs to stop.” “She was nude, sore, and confused” the next morning, according to the lawsuit. According to Lampros, she was also not allowed to talk about her relationship with Combs to anyone, the lawsuit claims. Mr. Combs would also threaten to blacklist her in the industry if she tried to mess with him in any way,” the suit said.

While I dread these altercations, I think some passengers need to chill out — people have the right to recline their seat. So, you’d think that 150 lighter seats per flight will certainly save an airline a ton of money. A lighter seat that doesn’t recline is also a seat that is less likely to break, which saves an airline money in repairs. But after 28 years in the job, I’ve found there’s some basic reclining etiquette that makes for a smoother flight for everyone. But on coach, middle seat passengers struggle to type because there’s no arm space.

CNN —Multiple people on an American Airlines flight pulled a fellow passenger to the floor after he tried to open one of the emergency exits, forcing the plane to return to Albuquerque, New Mexico, shortly after takeoff, according to multiple passengers. As of Sunday, there have been more than 250 unruly passenger incidents reported to the FAA by flight crews this year, according to the agency. The incident Tuesday began about twenty minutes into the flight, passenger Zach Etkind told CNN. Multiple passengers got the man to the ground and flight attendants restrained him with duct tape and flexi cuffs, Etkind said. And in November, a man on a Southwest Airlines flight opened an emergency exit door and climbed onto the plane’s wing while the aircraft was at a gate in New Orleans.

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore County police officer is accused of using excessive force when he pepper sprayed a handcuffed man in the face and closed him inside a hot patrol car, even as the man repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. A 19-year veteran of the Baltimore County Police Department, Small previously served in the Military Police, according to his attorney. “Like all citizens, Officer Small is entitled to the presumption of innocence,” attorney Brian Thompson said in an email. Small tried to slam the car door, but the man’s knee was in the way. It says the man started gasping, choking and calling for help while kicking the car door to get officers’ attention.

That's according to a new paper that looks at how RTO mandates impact productivity and performance. If RTO mandates are hard to enforce, they probably don't make sense for that workplace. RTO mandates were more common for firms with "male and powerful CEOs." The authors found no significant impact of RTO mandates on stock returns or firm profitability. RTO mandates have divided many offices nationwide, including at leading tech and financial companies.

Record-setting holiday sales hit $12 billion

New York CNN —Enticed by deep discounts, Americans are expected to celebrate Cyber Monday by spending a record-setting $12 billion online shopping. The early results suggest the holiday shopping season is off to a positive start, aided in part by lower gas prices. Another popular measure of holiday spending, Mastercard SpendingPulse, found e-commerce sales jumped by an even stronger 8.5% year-over-year on Black Friday. In another sign of sturdy consumer spending, Americans continue to travel aggressively. That’s down 63 cents from the peak in September and marks 60 consecutive days of falling gas prices.

The growing reliance on 401(k) plans as a source of urgent cash is further evidence of consumer financial stress heading into the 2024 election year. Despite high GDP and low unemployment, some Americans are clearly facing a cash crunch and struggling to pay the bills. Bank of America said the number of 401(k) participants taking hardship distributions increased by 27% from the first quarter of this year. Bank of America found 401(k) contribution rates were steady during the third quarter at 6.5%. Just under 3% of those age groups are cutting back on their retirement savings.

Here are the 'unwritten rules' of air travel

A new report has an ominous warning for air travelers. "No matter what you do on a plane, you're probably annoying another passenger," it states. "When the unwritten rules of airlines etiquette are broached, it can lead to conflict," writes Lindsey Roeschke, a travel and hospitality analyst at Morning Consult who authored the report. Nearly one in five respondents said concerns about other passengers' behavior may deter them from taking a trip. Some 77% of people in the survey said they were "bothered" by it, with 51% saying they were "very bothered."

New York CNN —At a moment of elevated geopolitical danger, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen plans to deliver a major speech on Thursday mapping out the Biden administration’s economic gameplan toward the increasingly volatile Indo-Pacific region, CNN has learned. The speech will mark the first time the Biden administration has outlined its economic approach toward the region in such detail. Recently, China and the Philippines accused each other of causing collisions in a disputed area of the South China Sea. Beyond the high-profile trip to China, Yellen has visited the Indo-Pacific multiple times during the Biden administration, including four trips to India, two trips each to Japan and Indonesia and visits to Vietnam and Korea. On Friday, the White House announced Biden will travel to San Francisco on November 14 to host representatives from the 21 APEC member economies for APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

Now the Diamondbacks turn to the rookie right-hander for Game 3 of the NL Championship Series in an effort to slow the homer-happy Philadelphia Phillies, who have built a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven playoff thanks to six homers. “Yesterday was a really frustrating outcome,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday, a day after Philadelphia's 10-0 rout at Citizens Bank Park. [1/4] The International Monetary Fund (IMF) logo is seen outside the headquarters building in Washington, U.S., September 4, 2018. The IMF adjusted this year's stress test to probe the impact of its baseline economic scenario of higher interest rates for longer, as well as the possibility of consumers yanking deposits. "Under the baseline, it's about 5% of banks that are relatively weak in terms of their capital. And in severe stress, that number goes up to 30% or sometimes higher," Adrian said. The IMF did not identify the banks that could be in trouble if those economic circumstances arose, but they included both small and large lenders.

How to cook mussels at home
  + stars: | 2023-09-17 | by ( Casey Barber | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
How to prepare musselsRemember that mussels are alive until you cook them, and they need to stay alive and breathing until they’re ready to hit the pan. If you won’t be cooking and eating your mussels immediately, use the colander method as noted above to store the mussels until you’re ready to use them. How to cook musselsUnlike oysters, which take a bit of practice and skill to shuck, it’s simple to steam mussels. Add the cleaned mussels, cover the pot and cook for about 8-10 minutes until all the mussels have opened. • Mussels in tomato-garlic broth• Spanish mussels with hard chorizo and cream• Beer-steamed mussels• White wine and olive oil-steamed mussels• Mussels in coconut milkCasey Barber is a food writer, artist and editor of the website Good Food Stories.

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas knows some investors were caught off guard by his bullish Tesla upgrade earlier this week. "Investor feedback to our Tesla upgrade has skewed towards push-back," he said in a note to clients Tuesday. That explains why the call came just a few months after the firm downgraded Tesla to equal weight. Dojo's success could lower growth or profitability more than currently expected for competing autonomous driving systems, Jonas said. The analyst added that investors can begin measuring the path to autonomous driving and what companies could likely play a major role despite a fully formed product likely being far away.

The great remote work debateAs part of the war over remote work, employers and employees alike have debated whether or not a mandatory return-to-office policy actually works. With two kids at home, the flexibility of remote work — coupled with no commute — was a boon. The firms that are succeeding at remote work have saved money from giving up office leases and are making their employees feel happier along the way. "You're still in meetings, you're still engaged, but you're not under the thumb of somebody — not treated like a child." Have you quit over remote work, or are contemplating it?

In February, First Republic Bank ’s well-heeled customers were yanking money from their accounts. The bank tried to stem the tide by offering higher rates on certificates of deposit. Even that was a tough sell. Jim Herbert , the bank’s 78-year-old founder, usually a reassuring presence, slammed his hand on the table during an all-hands meeting. We’ve got to get more deposits, he said, according to people familiar with the matter.

In Europe, investors put 17.7 billion euros ($19.35 billion) into euro-denominated money market funds in March, Refinitiv Lipper data shows, when the Credit Suisse crisis rocked markets. Other analysts said it was due to the fact that euro money market funds are underdeveloped relative to U.S. funds and are focused more on private sector, particularly bank, debt. WHAT IS A MONEY MARKET FUND? The European money market fund sector is far smaller than in the United States.
[1/2] A JPMorgan logo is seen in New York City, U.S., January 10, 2017. While lenders regularly compete for customers, the loss of confidence that shook the banking system in the last two weeks sparked concerns about contagion that could lead to a broader panic. President Joe Biden, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Citigroup Inc. C.N Chief Executive Jane Fraser have all made statements in recent days to reassure the public that the U.S. banking system is safe. "We all have a vested interest in keeping America's financial system strong and thriving," a JPMorgan spokesperson said. "It's the envy of the world with thousands of institutions of all sizes serving every corner of the country."
In the days since the stunning collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, I've seen the tech world point a lot of fingers. Silicon Valley Bank imploded in part because it was a repository for the riskiest behaviors of the industry it serviced. In spite of this reality, there has been little self-reflection on the part of the industry that was so closely tied to Silicon Valley Bank. Silicon Valley Bank thrived on these trends. But to grow at the breakneck speed of its clients, Silicon Valley Bank executives had to change things in Washington.
“That was absolutely idiotic,” the employee, who works on the asset management side of Silicon Valley Bank, told CNN in an interview. By the close of business that day, Silicon Valley Bank had a negative cash balance of about $958 million. “People are just shocked at how stupid the CEO is,” the Silicon Valley Bank insider said. “There should be no mistaking that Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse was a direct result of the Fed’s persistent and excessive interest rate hikes,” they wrote. Of course, Silicon Valley Bank had more than a year to prepare for both of those issues.
Silicon Valley Bank is second only to Washington Mutual in terms of the biggest bank failures in US history. Those interest rate hikes have contributed to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in at least two key ways. First, higher borrowing costs rocked the frothy parts of the US economy, especially the tech industry that Silicon Valley Bank catered to. They panicked, yanking $42 billion last Thursday alone when Silicon Valley Bank’s stock crashed by 60%, according to filings by California regulators. By the close of business that day, Silicon Valley Bank had a negative cash balance of about $958 million.
