CNN —Justice Samuel Alito is the tip of the spear for conservatives challenging the Biden administration during oral arguments at the Supreme Court. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar is the Biden administration’s top lawyer at the court, defending the policies that are the source of much of Alito’s consternation. “I think our best example historically is the Customs Service,” Prelogar responded. About 100 wives, mothers, children and relatives of Ukrainian soldiers attended a demonstration in the capital, Kyiv. Even so, U.S. officials say that Russian forces are experiencing morale problems as another winter campaign looms. The latest hot spot draining resources is Avdiivka, a city in the eastern Donetsk region that Russian forces partially occupy. The Washington-based think tank noted that Ukrainian military officials said that around 5,000 Russian soldiers have been killed and wounded, and 400 armored vehicles lost in the area since Oct. 10. Satellite images show the Russian military lost at least 109 military vehicles, mostly armored fighting vehicles and tanks, near Avdiivika between Oct. 10 and 20, the institute said.

The latest round of volatility in the bond market may be nerve-wracking, but it can also be a great opportunity, according to Pimco chief investment officer Dan Ivascyn. Ivascyn is also the portfolio manager of the Morningstar 5-star rated Pimco Income Fund (PIMIX), which has a 5.46% 30-day SEC yield, according to Morningstar . Bond yields move inversely to prices, so when prices go down, yields go up. He likes agency mortgage-backed securities, very high quality corporate bonds and some asset-backed securities in very seasoned pools of mortgages. "For the patient investor, with a two- to three-year type horizon, you will be well rewarded to shift out of cash, [and] lock in some of these yields," Ivascyn said.
