The AI company basically planted a flag in the sand emblazoned with two words aimed at its Big Tech rivals: your move. The newest version of the AI chatbot, powered by OpenAI's new flagship AI model GPT-4o, can reason across audio, vision, and text in real time. AdvertisementAll the while, the voice assistant maintained a lighthearted and cheerful tone. In another instance, ChatGPT said the researcher was making it blush when he said he was talking about how "useful and amazing" ChatGPT was. Meanwhile, Amazon had plans to release an "Alexa Plus" paid version of the voice assistant that's powered by generative AI, Business Insider's Eugene Kim first reported.

For many it felt like a soothing balm, underscoring the kind of communal experience people were missing as the still-new coronavirus pandemic shuttered theaters. Even allowing for that, the operatic heights achieved by “Endgame,” which grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, would have been difficult to replicate. Such a concept would have sounded particularly foreign in the run-up to “Endgame,” when Marvel and its leader, Kevin Feige, appeared to possess a Midas touch. Venezuelan filmgoers watch the first screening in Venezuela of Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame" at a cinema in Caracas on April 26, 2019. Unlike “Endgame,” the challenges that face the movie business can’t be undone with a snap of the fingers.

With a penchant for adventure and the whole country at our fingertips, we've had a hard time choosing a single place to settle down. We were hungry for change and eager to find a place that felt like a better fit for us than our home ever had. Desperate for the freedom we'd felt in Denver, we moved back as soon as possible (in 2017, less than a year later). Kristen BringeShortly after returning to Denver, we had our daughter, which raised the stakes in our search for place perfection. We wanted to give her a great life and thought finding an ideal place to do so was essential.

That goes for MBAs as much as MFAs, and it’s a lesson Lyft executives learned the hard way on Tuesday, when an errant zero sent its stock (briefly) to the stratosphere. The Lyft typo came in an earnings report that stated, incorrectly, that the company’s estimated gross margin would expand by 500 basis points, which would amount to a stunning five-percentage-point bump. The stock shot up more than 60% before Lyft’s CFO corrected the error on a call with analysts, bringing the stock back to Earth. With the error in the rear view, Lyft shares were up up 30% Wednesday, bolstered by stronger-than-expected earnings and a rosy outlook for future cash flows. “Look, it was a bad error, and that’s on me,” Lyft CEO David Risher told CNBC on Wednesday.

Asked by the red carpet interviewer whether she intended to come out in the cover article, which was published in November, Eilish replied: “No, I didn’t. But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’”“I didn’t realize people didn’t know. It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, but it’s cool that they know,” she said. It looked more like the start of a city marathon than fans heading into a golf tournament, but such is the Ryder Cup’s unique brand of appeal. Fans from both sides of the Atlantic have come in their droves, bringing noise and color to the 44th edition of the event at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, Italy. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns alongside England’s Tyrrell Hatton, the Masters champion admitted to having butterflies long before tee off. “It increasingly got higher until we hit that tee shot on the first hole. CNN —Emily Pedersen made a stunning hole-in-one for Team Europe on a thrilling opening day of the Solheim Cup, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Team USA taking a 5-3 lead going into day two. Emily Pedersen produced the shot of the day. Angel Martinez/Getty ImagesThere was some late drama on the 18th as Leona Maguire produced a delightful chip-in to snatch a point for Team Europe alongside Georgia Hall, beating the American pairing of Lexi Thompson and Lilia Vu. Angel Martinez/Getty ImagesBut on a day that certainly wasn’t lacking in spectacular shots, it was Pedersen’s hole-in-one – only the second in Solheim Cup history – that became the standout moment. That shot and the rest of the afternoon fourballs were just the tonic Team Europe needed after a difficult morning.

"Just think: If I would've given him $250,000 on a [$10 million] valuation, it'd be billions," Cuban said. Specifically, given Uber's market capitalization of $90.1 billion as of Friday, Cuban's $250,000 would be worth $2.25 billion today. But, still," said Cuban, whose net worth is currently estimated at $5.1 billion. Cuban and Kalanick already had history at the time: Cuban invested $1.7 million in Kalanick's previous venture, a peer-to-peer networking startup called Red Swoosh, in 2005. However, Cuban said he didn't agree with Kalanick's $10 million valuation of the startup at the time: "I said, 'I'll do it at [a] $5 million valuation...' for Uber!"

This week, New York's attorney general gave notice that she is ready for Trump's October 2 fraud trial. Buried in the notice was a threat: She may seek new penalties against Trump and the Trump Organization for the "spoliation" of evidence. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced her $250 million civil fraud suit against Donald Trump and his company with assistant attorneys general Andrew S. Amer, center, and Kevin C. Wallace, right. Two summers ago, Garten testified in response to an AG subpoena that Trump "regularly generates handwritten documents," James' office said in a 2022 filing. A "bunch of issues"High burden of proof aside, this week's filing shows that James' lawyers are not letting the missing-documents matter go.

US stocks, meanwhile, have managed to pull up from their recent bear market into bull territory. Still, there’s good reason for investors to be optimistic, says Indrani De, head of global investment research at FTSE Russell. That makes sense, since tech and energy stocks have largely been driving markets upward over the last few weeks. For instance, leading venture capital firm Sequoia Capital held just more than $1 billion at SVB, according to the FDIC document. The FDIC document shows that Circle held $3.3 billion at SVB, a figure that the stablecoin company previously disclosed.

REUTERS/Kevin WurmNASHVILLE, Tennessee, April 13 (Reuters) - Tennessee state Representative Justin Pearson was sworn in on Thursday morning after he was reappointed to the legislature from which he and another Democratic colleague were expelled for leading a gun protest on the House of Representatives floor. "We've just been expelled, but we're back," Pearson told the crowd. We're going to keep fighting to end environmental racism and injustice," Pearson told reporters after his reappointment. Tennessee House Republicans, who have a supermajority, have said in a statement they will welcome back any expelled state lawmakers returned by county-level governments, so long as those members follow the legislature's rules.

Currently the CEO of Toyota's luxury brand Lexus, Sato will succeed Akio Toyoda as the CEO of Toyota on April 1. Under Toyoda, the automaker has followed a go-slow approach to electric vehicles, arguing that the hybrid technology it pioneered with the Prius will remain important along with investments in hydrogen. Sato started his career at Toyota in 1992, before rising through the ranks to become chief engineer of Lexus International in 2016, according to his profile on the Toyota website. That passion was obvious in a brief video clip released in 2021, where Sato sits next to Toyoda as they test-drive a Toyota Lexus. As Toyoda accelerates and whoops excitedly, Sato can be seen with a wide grin and occasionally laughing, unable to contain his delight.
Seriously, this is not where I thought we would be: The 3,800 level on the S & P 500 at the end of December 2022. If you listen to pundits, almost all are in dour agreement about a poor 2023 market . The table below shows all the years since 1960 when the S & P 500 fell at least 10%. In six of the 10 years following a 10% decline, the average increase in the S & P 500 was 17.5%. The S & P 500 index is down 20% for the year, the equal-weighted S & P 500 is off by about 13%, multiples have compressed, and sentiment is highly negative – that's bullish.
Sam Bankman-Fried’s Crypto Crash
  + stars: | 2022-12-14 | by ( The Editorial Board | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
If the rise of Sam Bankman-Fried was a modern tale about cryptocurrency tokens and “effective altruism,” his fall seems to be as old as original sin. “This is really old-fashioned embezzlement,” John Ray , the caretaker CEO of the failed crypto exchange FTX, told the House on Tuesday. “This is just taking money from customers and using it for your own purpose, not sophisticated at all.”Mr. Bankman-Fried, FTX’s co-founder, was arrested Monday in the Bahamas and is expected to be extradited. SBF, as he is often called, has been on a media tour since FTX’s failure, and he portrays himself as a well-intentioned doofus savant who got in way over his head and—whoops—lost billions of dollars. The sloppiness of bookkeeping is true enough: Mr. Ray said invoices and expenses were communicated via Slack chats, and “they used QuickBooks.”
The Artemis I Orion capsule entered low-Earth orbit prior to making a maneuver toward the Moon. Users pointed to the curved trajectory, seemingly moving away from the Moon, as proof that the capsule went off course. Per ESA, a low Earth orbit was done to allow mission control to perform final checks before departing toward the Moon (here). A photo showing the Artemis I Orion capsule flying past the moon in its trajectory is not proof the earth is flat, as online posts say. The spacecraft performed a low Earth orbit before completing a translunar injection toward the Moon.
She was booed off the stage of the 1973 ceremony after 60 seconds for the remarks, which drew attention to an Indigenous people's protest at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. The event, "An Evening with Sacheen Littlefeather" featured live Native American performances and was streamed on the museum's YouTube page. Her friend Brando boycotted the 45th Oscars ceremony because of the stereotypes of Native Americans in films and television. Saturday's program included the reading of an apology letter to Littlefeather for her treatment by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She responded, "I am accepting this apology not only for me alone, but an acknowledgement not only for me, but all of our (Native American) nation.
