New York Fashion Week, which formally kicks off fashion month, has found itself at a crossroads in recent seasons as its counterparts in Milan and Paris have maintained dominance on the industry’s schedule with sought-after shows and splashy celebrity guest lists. As part of its continuing evolution, J.Crew released a collaboration with Maryam Nassir Zadeh, a New York City-based brand, in July. Instead, they were scattered throughout the floor with pieces from other J.Crew lines. The skirt that fit my waist felt tight on my hips, while the skirt that fit my hips was too big at the waist. Overall, I was most impressed by the everyday items from J.Crew and Maryam Nassir Zadeh's collection, particularly the cotton pieces. They were so soft, lightweight, and versatile that I instantly wanted to make them staples of my summer wardrobe.

Paris CNN —True to his theatrical form, Thom Browne’s fall 2024 couture show opened with spectacle. The collection featured couture made from muslin "toiles" as well as intricate embroidery and needlework in gold, silver and bronze. Thom Browne (which has, since 2018, been part of Zegna group who own a 90% stake) is also a ready-to-wear business currently offered in over 300 department-stores and boutiques across 40 countries, as well as in 110 Thom Browne retail stores. “I like to entertain and to ground it in beautifully made clothes.”"The work in progress becomes the final work... Couture," wrote Thom Browne in their show notes, of the decision to use toile in the collection. Kristy Sparow/Getty ImagesPerhaps surprisingly for a couture collection, it was muslin — the simple, lightweight cotton used to create initial mock-ups of clothes (called “toiles”) at ateliers — that comprised much of Browne’s finished pieces.

Why some restaurants and bars are banning younger patrons

Barounis says his age policy was rare back then, and some at the time questioned his decision to keep out younger customers. As Barounis sees it, the uproar over the restaurant’s age policy suggests it might have been too extreme. But the conversation around the restaurant’s unconventional age policy raises some interesting questions: To what extent can businesses dictate who their customers are? In fact, Bliss owner Marvin Pate tells CNN his positive dining experiences at adults-only resorts are what inspired his restaurant’s age policy. Marvin Pate, owner of Bliss, says his restaurant's age policy was inspired by his and his wife's experiences at adults-only resorts.

“I wanted it to be a bit of a mess,” said Rose ahead of the show on Sunday that marked her debut on the Milan Fashion Week schedule after years presenting her label in London. For her Spring-Summer 2025 show, she continued to challenge traditional concepts of masculinity and classic codes of tailoring. Justin Shin/Getty Images“There is a familiar subversion but I never intend for things to be shocking,” she explained. “Hideous,” said Willy Chavarria, talking about the fashion business, celebrity entitlement, late-stage capitalism, his current state of mind. “It’s still men’s wear, honey,” he said. Hideous are the demands a best-selling pop star made before agreeing to attend Mr. Chavarria’s show on Friday and a lavish dinner party at Jean’s that will follow. Hideous are the industry trade groups that dole out awards to minority designers while withholding the financing necessary to build a sustainable long-term business. Then the mercurial Mr. Chavarria, 56, experienced a sudden mood shift.

With only towels around their waists, patrons aboard a floating sauna in a Norwegian fjord rescued two people whose car had plunged into the water. A witness told the Norwegian VG newspaper that he saw the car stopped, before it suddenly accelerated and ended up in the water. The paper reported that the driver had thought the vehicle was in park when he hit the accelerator pedal. As the car went down, the two occupants escaped and were on the roof of the vehicle as the sauna raft headed toward them. IN NEWS sure to leave biker gangs uncharacteristically tearful, leather pants are threatening to go bougie. Long a bad-boy symbol, hide trousers have been transformed by high fashion this fall. They’re being proposed as a suave, sensual and comfortable alternative to chinos, cargo pants and tailored trousers. Some feature high waists to elongate legs or pleats to conjure old-school élan worthy of Cary Grant. Nick Paget, senior menswear strategist at trend forecasting firm WGSN, attributes the leather look to a post-Covid desire for sensual dressing.

When does a style become a classic? I have read all the discussions about whether skinny jeans are still in, but if a particular style is a classic, isn’t it always in? It’s pretty much impossible to pinpoint a moment when a piece of work becomes a classic because the label is one that gets added in hindsight. (Except, perhaps, for the word “pulviscular,” which as far as I am concerned is an instant classic.) One of the reasons a classic is a classic is that it can morph to reflect contemporary styles while never losing its core identity.

I know exactly where I can find a perfect dress that fits me well and makes me feel great. In “Butts: A Backstory,” the journalist Heather Radke explored the garment industry’s history of trying and failing to standardize sizing for women’s bodies. “Bodies are bespoke, and most clothes made since the 1920s are mass-produced industrial products,” Ms. Radke wrote. While men’s sizing utilizes inches in a straightforward manner, with measurements like inseam and chest, women’s sizes have no consistency from one brand to another. Professor Abigail Glaum-Lathbury of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago put it to Ms. Radke very simply: “Unless your clothes are made for you, they don’t actually fit.”

By day, Taylor Sade, 24, is a marketing manager. But after work hours, she hand-strings beads and stones on her bed in her Lower East Side apartment, cradled next to her two Himalayan cats. Those creations eventually add up to Vertigo, the buzzy brand behind the accessory draping the necks and waists of many young women this summer. The brand sells a collection of chokers, pendants and belts made of oversize beads that look as if they were plucked from the sand. The accessories, which cost $120 to $380, are often dark-hued but also glint in brighter colors, and they’ve shown up on many bikini-clad beachgoers — an embodiment of a self-assurance often associated with a “Hot Girl Summer.”

But a starter kit, as the name suggests, is only a sartorial starting point. Others used sweaters as an accessory of sorts, draping them over their shoulders or tying them across their bodies or around their waists. Wimbledon is known for requiring athletes to wear white. Most spectators’ outfits included at least one white element, too — often, white tennis shoes. And it wouldn’t be a British tennis tournament without more than a few smart-looking hats.

Videos posted on the young influencer’s account showing her running and weight-lifting were shared heavily on Chinese social media and also appeared in various state media outlets following her death late last month. State media outlets said that the influencer’s family had received “compensation” from the weight loss camp in Shaanxi, but did not say how much. In China, as in much of Asia and the rest of the world, social media is awash with unhealthy and unrealistic trends promoting extreme weight loss. One notorious recent social media trend in China involved women posing behind vertical sheets of printer paper to prove their waists were so thin they could not be seen either side. Zhou’s death has also increased scrutiny of the social media influencer industry more generally.

The tens of thousands of women in Ukraine's armed forces have long had to make do with men's uniforms. That is now changing, thanks to volunteers who have started designing military clothing for women. You can't loosen up uniforms in the armed forces," Mykytenko, 27, told Reuters. During the two-hour hearing, the men - dressed in orange prison jumpsuits - sat with their attorneys with their hands shackled to their waists. The group planned to break into Whitmer's vacation home, kidnap her and take her at gunpoint to stand "trial" on treason charges, prosecutors said. In August, two alleged militia members accused of conspiring to trigger a "second American revolution" in the kidnapping plot were found guilty of kidnapping conspiracy charges.
