“It’s not defensible.”Yet, even as he seeks to keep the spotlight on Biden’s debate shortcomings, Trump is also entering a critical three-week stretch full of potential race-defining moments that could further alter the stakes of the election. The Republican convention in Milwaukee will kick off a mere four days later. Leveraging these moments presents opportunities for Trump to seize media coverage beyond the debate and further bolster his campaign coffers. Before the debate had even ended, Trump’s campaign sent supporters a text message declaring he had “obliterated” Biden along with a link to purchase new apparel. “I’ve always been of the opinion that this decision would come before the convention,” one Trump ally said.

CNN —Top advisers to Donald Trump are plotting an overhaul of the Republican Party platform that will dramatically slash its size and refocus the GOP around the former president’s agenda for a second term. A memo from Trump campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles dated Thursday criticized past platforms as too long and too heavily influenced by special interests and outside groups. A “clear, concise and easily digestible” platform will be easier for voters to understand and harder for political opponents to attack, they wrote. Trump’s campaign is especially aware of how Democrats have weaponized the GOP platform in the past and is seeking to avoid a lengthy document full of potential landmines for the former president to navigate. Already, Trump this year has ousted the party’s previous chair, Ronna McDaniel, and installed close allies atop the GOP — his daughter-in-law Lara Trump and North Carolina GOP leader Michael Whatley.

Spectators watch a race on the River Thames at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, west of London, on June 30, 2023. LONDON — Harmful E.coli bacteria has been discovered at "alarmingly high" levels in the U.K.'s River Thames just days before elite rowers are due to compete there for the international Henley Regatta, anti-pollution campaigners have warned. River Action also found E.coli levels up to 10 times higher in March tests. James Wallace, CEO of River Action, accused the government and Thames Water, which manages water supply in the area, of failing to appropriately manage water hygiene levels. Thames Water did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment, though the BBC reported that it had dubbed the findings "alarmist" and said it was monitoring bacteria levels.

Setbacks in orbitSeveral more helium leaks were identified while the craft was en route to the International Space Station along with the thruster issues. That’s why Boeing and NASA teams then chose to leave the Starliner spacecraft safely docked with the space station while they worked to learn as much as possible about those issues. The first Starliner test mission took place without a crew in December 2019. That’s at the core of the mysteries Boeing and NASA are seeking to unravel during the Starliner spacecraft’s extended mission. Extended stays in spaceIt’s not uncommon for astronauts to unexpectedly extend their stay aboard the space station — for days, weeks or even months.

While Boyle produced the 2007 sequel, "28 Weeks Later," the Juan Carlos Fresnadillo-directed film focused more on gory action, than the suspense-driven horror of the original. Boeing's crew flight test represents the first time Starliner is carrying people, flying NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. Before launching on June 5, Boeing and NASA planned for Starliner to be in space for nine days. As of Friday, the Starliner flight has tallied 24 days and counting. NASA and Boeing say the delay for testing is solely to gather more data about the spacecraft's performance, in particular its thruster system. The Starliner crew flight test represents a final major step before NASA certifies Boeing to fly crew on operational, six-month missions.

A San Mateo County judge on June 20 granted Dharmesh Patel's request to participate in a mental health diversion program, which would allow him to avoid a trial on charges of attempted murder. AdvertisementThe ability to participate in diversion programs — for juveniles, veterans, or defendants struggling with mental health diagnoses or substance abuse struggles — is an increasingly popular alternative to jail sentences across the US. Wagstaffe told BI the charges against Patel have now been suspended and if he successfully completes the two years of the diversion program, the charges would be automatically dismissed. Under California law, defendants are ineligible for the diversion program if they have been charged with other offenses, including murder, involuntary manslaughter, and rape."

In that debate, Trump repeatedly attacked Biden and consistently spoke over him, as well as antagonized the moderators. Leading up to debate week, Trump has downplayed the importance of preparation. “It’s very hard to prepare,” Trump told the Washington Examiner. CNN —The Justice Department urged the Supreme Court on Wednesday to reject an effort by former Trump aide Steve Bannon to avoid prison while he appeals his contempt of Congress conviction. A federal judge ruled recently that Bannon must turn himself in by July 1 to begin serving a four-month sentence. Bannon, a conservative podcast host and former strategist for Donald Trump, asked the Supreme Court last week to pause his prison sentence. Bannon “responded to the subpoena with total noncompliance,” Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar told the court.
