This seven-bedroom 'zombie mansion' near Portland, Oregon, is listed for $1.3 million. The "zombie" house near Portland, Oregon, is now covered in graffiti. In Tigard, Oregon, about 10 miles outside Portland sits a 9,052-square-foot, seven-bedroom house that's never been lived in. It's been abandoned since 2008, after the builder had complications with his building loan during the recession, the Oregonian reported in December 2023. "The bones are good, and when it's built out, it will be a $3 to $6 million property."

"Advertising on Reddit is rapidly evolving, and we are still in the early phases of growing this business," Reddit wrote in its IPO filing. The company said advertisers were attracted to Reddit due to its "high-intent" audience, much of which is hunting for product recommendations. And elsewhere, Reddit doesn't have the kind of e-commerce structure that Meta, TikTok, and Google have built, experts said. It has poached ad talent from companies like Pinterest and Meta to grow its ad business. Also last year, Jim Squires, a former longtime Meta ad exec, joined Reddit in a new role as EVP of business marketing and growth.

It looks the same all over, but because of what Ashbrook described as “botanical issues of great detail,” only one side qualified as access land, open for rambling. To Hayes, it seemed as if all these technicalities undercut the rights that the CROW Act was supposed to enshrine. In Sweden, the tourism board developed an ad campaign around the allure of what the country calls allemansrätten, or everyman’s right. “It’s a right protected by the law that allows me to sleep and eat and walk pretty much wherever I want,” the voice-over explains. “Part of that bundle of rights in England for the last several hundred years has been the right to exclude other people from your land,” Shrubsole says.

The kitchen tools I can’t live without are: my big, heavy aluminum ollas, the old-school kind my abuela had. If I make rice in other things I’m filled with terror. I’ve shipped them to different places where I was working. My favorite gadget right now is the French press. I call it the “Fresh Prince.” When I have a real day ahead of me, my girl gets filled up with Colombian coffee beans.

THIS SUMMER, some well-deserved downtime is on the agenda for Liza Colón-Zayas. Over the past year, the actress made her Broadway debut in the Tony-nominated “Between Riverside and Crazy,” celebrated three decades as a member of the Labyrinth Theater Company and won critical acclaim for her portrayal of the prickly line cook Tina in FX on Hulu’s “The Bear.” In Season 2, which streams June 22, Tina attends culinary school. To prepare, Colón-Zayas worked with chef David Waltuck, whom she calls a “very patient, cool character.”

Every little bit of friction that’s added to the election process makes it that much harder for it to function. Which means these obscure election boards aren’t where denialism goes to die; it’s where it takes root and starts to grow. Just last month, North Carolina state election officials voted to remove two local election officials. The officials questioned state election practices and a 2018 federal court decision striking down strict voter ID requirements North Carolina had in place at the time. The incident is just the latest in a string of examples of the ways that election deniers’ conspiratorial distrust of elections continues to affect state and local elections.
Liam Squires, like many students, usually answers the question “How was school today?” with an evasive answer along the lines of “I don’t know.”This is why weeks passed before his mother, Megan Squires, learned that he had spotted an error in a science textbook that the publisher, dozens of students and his own teacher had missed. Liam, 10, had noticed that two rocks were misplaced in a diagram of the rock cycle. The significance of his discovery was not clear to his mother until months later in March, when Liam was praised by the school district superintendent and received a letter from the textbook’s publisher. Liam saw the mistake toward the end of a school day at H.M. Pearson Elementary School in Catlett, Va., about 50 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
New York CNN —Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw got $9.8 million in total compensation in 2022, more than double the $4.7 million he received in 2021. The plan to promote him to CEO in May of 2022 was also announced at that time. The combined pay for the two executives is equal to 70% of the $27.8 million that Norfolk Southern has committed so far to compensate the communities and its residents affected by the derailment. Thursday the US Justice Department sued Norfolk Southern for violations of the Clean Water Act caused by the derailment. Shaw has personally contributed $445,000 to set up a scholarship endowment fund for seniors at East Palestine High School.
March 17 (Reuters) - Norfolk Southern Corp (NSC.N) shareholders have accused the railroad of defrauding them by prioritizing profit over safety prior to last month's derailment of a train carrying hazardous chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio. A Norfolk Southern spokesman declined to comment, saying the Atlanta-based company does not discuss pending litigation. Norfolk Southern has faced many lawsuits over the Feb. 3 derailment, including cases brought by local residents and Ohio's attorney general. Six of the seven largest U.S. freight railroads use Precision Scheduled Railroading: Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, CSX, Kansas City Southern and Union Pacific. The case is Bucks County Employees Retirement System v Norfolk Southern Corp et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, No.
New York CNN —Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw sold $448,000 worth of the company’s stock this week, a month after the toxic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, that is still being cleaned up. The stock sale was completed under terms of a pre-arranged plan put in place in May 2022, shortly after he was promoted to CEO. In Shaw’s plan, he sells 2,000 shares of Norfolk Southern shares every three months. While his stock sale is typical for a CEO, it’s also an indication of how well paid he is running one of the nation’s four major freight railroads. His predecessor as CEO, James Squires, received $14 million that year, which is more than the $12 million the railroad has said it paid to residents and community groups in East Palestine.
New York CNN —Workers at a Southern California Medieval Times have walked off the job and went on strike before their second performance of the day Saturday, the union confirmed. Medieval Times LLC has not responded to numerous requests for comment. Medieval Times workers walk a picket line in Buena Park, California. Brett BanditelliZapcic said people work at Medieval Times because they love it, not for the money. In October, Medieval Times filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the union for using the company name, which is still ongoing.
IT’S EASY TO SEE why Isaac Mizrahi’s Instagram feed is everyone’s favorite cooking show right now. The renowned fashion designer/actor/singer/producer’s videos, shot in his Bridgehampton, N.Y., and Manhattan kitchens, showcase his warm personality as well as his sporadic screw-ups. “This is exactly how cooking shows should be!” one commenter gushed. “They are always too perfect and intimidating!”On any given “episode” of his highly entertaining one-man show, Mr. Mizrahi (@imisaacmizrahi) might welcome his “darlings” to cook along, or to peek inside his drawer full of ice cream scoops, or to compose a cocktail along with him while he watches “Jeopardy!”

THANKS TO increasing availability and accessibility of great seafood across the U.S., seafood towers are having a moment. “I love that they can be as creative as you want or as traditional as you want. LUXE: Caviar Russe, New YorkChef Edgar Panchernikov’s over-the-top treatment features caviar and all its accoutrements, along with oysters, shrimp, lobster, king crab, hamachi, fluke, sea trout and bluefin tuna. Sea urchin is an optional add-on. Among the dazzling selection of accompaniments: crème fraiche, blini, potato coins, toast squares, chives, cocktail sauce, mignonette, aioli, soy sauce, ponzu, ginger and clarified butter.
IMMEDIATELY UPON entry to Deux Chats, the Art Nouveau-style bar/restaurant in Brooklyn, N.Y., you’re greeted with an extravagant bar-top display of crab legs, lobster claws, shrimp, oysters, clams and sunny lemons, all perched on mounds of crushed ice. In the dining room, heads turn as two-tiered seafood towers parade by. At the base of the one that landed on my table, mussels, oysters and clams nestled among seaweed tendrils, pickled vegetables and radishes. The top tier featured a kick-line of those crab legs, bright-red lobster tails and shrimp, plus pink cubes of salmon crudo garnished with wasabi caviar, and a dainty dice of tuna tartare served on scallop shells. A display like this invariably inspires a chain reaction of copycat orders, at Deux Chats and at restaurants around the country where the classic seafood tower is this season’s towering success.
