Business Insider asked wedding professionals what reception trends and traditions couples can skip to save money and stress. A giant wedding cake isn't necessary or cost-effectiveSheet cakes are more cost effective for a big reception. Stakhov Yuriy/Shutterstock"A huge cake isn't necessary, especially since the high price of a large, elaborate wedding cake often catches couples by surprise," Nickel said. AdvertisementYou shouldn't serve more than three courses at the receptionEven if you and your partner are foodies, a wedding reception isn't the best time for a seven-course dining experience. Dance-floor props can look out of place next to carefully chosen decorThe wedding photographer Amy Kolodziej said that dance-floor props can detract from the elegance of a wedding reception.

After sampling many nonalcoholic still wines, my preference is for varietals or varietal blends that start as wine and then have the alcohol removed, rather than tea or herb based attempts to mimic wine. As I have noted over the past couple of years, well-made white wines without alcohol, like their spirited counterparts, are blessed with lively acidity and minerality, and are generally more appealing than reds, which often lack tannins and complexity. The rules that regulate sales of nonalcoholic wines vary from state to state. Most of the wines have their own websites and sell online, but you should allow up to a week for delivery. And when Robert Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, sang his 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby,” flanked by 10-foot sparklers, he pulled the Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath onstage. This was Cameopalooza 2021, a company retreat celebrating the meteoric rise of Cameo, an app and website where regular people could buy personalized videos from minor celebrities for as little as $1. Three hundred Cameo employees danced, took videos and basked in their good fortune to be a part of the Cameo “Fameo” — the company’s nickname for its employees and community of celebrities. A former collegiate party promoter, he shared the lifestyle of Cameo’s celebrity talent, jet setting between parties, sporting events and luxury homes in Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Cameo had just raised $100 million on the audacious ambition to pioneer the “connection economy,” landing a $1 billion “unicorn” valuation just a few years into its existence.

Dark RedsNot a particularly helpful designation as color in red wines can mean little. The assumption is that the darker the color the denser and more tannic the wine, but it’s not true. One exception with color: Young reds will be brighter while well-aged wines will seem duller and paler around the edges. It’s both the oldest method and newly fashionable, and produces somewhat simple wines that can be fresh and delicious. Last is the tank method, used for inexpensive sparkling wines produced in quantity, like Prosecco.

When the ladies weren’t playing in the water, they played a game of Barbie trivia. A server dressed as Ken, served pink cocktails like dragon fruit margaritas and huckleberry Malibu rum sparklers, she said. Strawberry hummus was served, along with a Barbie cake with a doll hidden inside. “I have my vintage black-and-white Barbie swimsuit, a neon spandex swimsuit and a pink patent skirt with pink cowboy boots and a pink cowboy hat,” Ms. Lester said. “I decided I needed to do a few outfit changes, just like Barbie does.”

Some Americans, especially younger people, are rethinking whether they want to celebrate Independence Day. A survey by YouGov found that 56 percent of American adults planned to join in the festivities this year. Demi Lovato, Post Malone and Sheryl Crow are among many artists performing in CNN’s Fourth of July Special. Ja Rule is playing live at Coney Island as part of an Independence Day celebration. She was going to the Hamptons, she said, on the most packed Long Island Rail Road train she have ever been on.

As fireworks lit up the three-mile stretch of coastline in the capital of Australia’s remote Northern Territory, a swath of grass along the beach went up in flames. A few revelers used tree branches to beat down the blaze; one man poured water on the fire with one hand, clutching a beer in another. But most, having judged that the fire probably would not spread, were content to carry on setting off fireworks and waiting for firefighters to arrive to douse the conflagration, which they did after about 15 minutes. About three feet from the fire, close enough to feel its heat, a couple lit sparklers and danced with their two young children. Welcome to Territory Day in the Northern Territory, the one time and place in mainland Australia where anyone can set off fireworks, no permits needed and no questions asked.

Select a party anthem (“YMCA”), a quality in a dream partner (“ravenous”) and presto: your spiritual home. Too many people got Wyoming — more than actually lived in Wyoming — and this turn of events was so exciting that people stomped over to Facebook to protest. Feb 25 (Reuters) - Sweden's Armand Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record on Saturday, clearing 6.22 metres to add one centimetre to his previous mark at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He had barely touched the mat before a spray of sparklers went off and meet director Renaud Lavillenie, the Olympic champion in 2012, ran to embrace him. Duplantis had the competition won already when he cleared 6.01 metres on the first try, as Australian Kurtis Marschall finished second with a 5.91 metres leap while the Netherlands' Menno Vloon took third. Duplantis set the previous record on his way to winning gold at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July. A Tesla driver watched in horror as another Tesla hit a barrier and burst into flames. The driver of the other Tesla told Kaplan he was using its Autopilot system at the time. He got out and spoke to the driver of the crashed Tesla, who was not injured in the incident. The driver told Kaplan he had his 2018 Model X in Autopilot but "it suddenly veered hard to the left and stopped against the wall." Vehicles using Tesla's Autopilot software were involved in 273 crashes over roughly the last year, according to a report released earlier this year by the US road-safety regulator.
The Bidens hosted Monday the largest Diwali celebration ever held in the White House, with some 200 guests in attendance as the president lit a diya, a ceremonial lamp, and addressed the holiday’s significance. Before he addressed the room full of South Asians, Biden invited two young kids to join him on stage. The president was joined at the ceremony by first lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was greeted with loud cheers as she took the stage to talk about her own relationship with Diwali. New York City public schools will now observe the Diwali holiday, Mayor Eric Adams announced at a news conference Thursday. Diwali, also called the festival of lights, is typically celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs, and will be commemorated starting the next academic year. “For over two decades, South Asians and Indo-Caribbeans in New York have been fighting for the Diwali school holiday,” she said. “I stand on the shoulders of those advocates.”In making space for the holiday, Adams says he hopes non-South Asian students will start to learn about it too. “When we acknowledge Diwali, we are going to encourage children to learn about what is Diwali,” he said.
Kozo's safety tips for handling fireworks on the Fourth of July include keeping a water source handy. Here's what he told Insider:Know and obey the lawBefore you load up on fireworks, Kozo strongly recommends researching the laws pertaining to them for your specific area as they differ from state to state. In addition to injuries, fireworks also cause approximately 19,500 fires in the US annually — 28% of which are reported on Independence Day alone, according to the National Fire Protection Association. "Sparklers, which we often deem harmless and hand over to little kids to hold and wave, burn somewhere between 1200 degrees and 1800 degrees. Kozo added that 21% of reported fireworks-related injuries are caused by sparklers, and instead recommends giving children glow sticks as a safe and fun substitute.

"Bottle girl" is slang for girls who work in clubs and do bottle service specifically, but both terms describe what I do. I got the job two weeks after I turned 21, so I hadn't even officially been to a club yet. All the clubs in Las Vegas, mine included, are usually open one weekday and then on the weekends. Our job is to guide them through the night, although we're supposed to sell to them and encourage them to buy. But I know some girls who are uncomfortable about handshakes and high fives because in a nightclub we just don't really know where people's hands have been.
