The annual Florida Python Challenge has slithered to its conclusion, with professionally-categorized python purger Ronald Kiger crowned its victor after removing 20 Burmese pythons from the Florida Everglades. The commission revealed 195 Burmese pythons were successfully removed from the wild during the challenge. The hunt is designed to bring awareness to the invasive threat of the Burmese python species in Florida. These snakes are found primarily in and around the Everglades ecosystem in South Florida, where they prey on birds, mammals and other reptiles. Burmese pythons can spread diseases amongst native animals, affect native snakes and have high mercury levels that are dangerous for human consumption.

CNN —A giant prehistoric snake longer than a school bus slithered around what is now India 47 million years ago, according to new research. A panoramic view of Panandhro Lignite Mine, in western India's Gujarat state, shows the fossiliferous level (red arrow) where the giant snake Vasuki indicus was found. However, the snake would have rivaled the largest known snake species — the extinct Titanoboa — in size. Snake size and the role of climateSnakes are cold-blooded and need heat from the environment to survive. Datta and Bajpai said the snake lived in a coastal marsh and swamp.

The problem with this approach is that most Republican voters do not want an alternative to Trump; they overwhelmingly back him. At least that’s what the Nikki Haley campaign said after finishing second to former President Donald Trump in the New Hampshire primaries on Tuesday. Democratic nominee Bill Clinton and third-party candidate Ross Perot exploited that division in the Republican Party against Bush in the fall. The Republican Party is united behind Trump, and with optimal conditions for an opponent like Haley, Trump was still unstoppable. “Democrats deserve options, and it’s not clear at all that President Biden can beat Donald Trump.

CNN —A highly venomous snake is on the loose after escaping a home in Tilburg, the Netherlands on Monday afternoon, a municipality spokesperson told CNN on Wednesday. Local authorities are warning people to keep their distance and avoid approaching the poisonous green mamba, which is between 1.8 and 2 meters (6 to 6.5 feet) long. In the unlikely event someone is bitten by the snake, they should immediately call the emergency services, the spokesperson said. There are three species of green mamba, all native to Africa – one is found in the east and south of the continent, another in the west and another in the center. The municipality spokesperson did not specify which species the missing snake belonged to.

Thembi Kgatlana had time to pull off one more trick, to take one more shot, to send one more jolt of electricity through the crowd. She had been running, by that stage, for roughly 100 minutes, mounting what appeared at times to be a fearsome, one-woman campaign to keep South Africa in the Women’s World Cup for as long as possible. The Netherlands had a two-goal lead, and somewhere in the region of 30 seconds to survive. First, she spun and writhed and twisted away from a defender, leaving her sprawled on the turf. This time, it slithered just wide of Daphne van Domselaar’s goal.

Dutch master Van der Poel wins world road title

The Classics specialist and five-time cyclocross world champion is the first Dutchman to win the rainbow jersey in the road race since Joop Zoetemelk in 1985. "Maybe this completes my career in my opinion, it's maybe my biggest victory on the road and I cannot imagine riding in the rainbows for a year," Van der Poel said. Heavy rain provided another twist and Van der Poel might have paid for his late spill but, with a rainbow arced over the city, he closed in on the rainbow jersey. I was pretty pissed at myself," Van der Poel said. When Van der Poel powered up the steep Montrose Road climb for the final time he could finally enjoy ending the long Dutch wait for a road world champion.

She had been running, by that stage, for roughly 100 minutes, mounting what appeared at times to be a fearsome, one-woman campaign to keep South Africa in the Women’s World Cup for as long as possible. But Kgatlana, as she had already amply proved in this tournament, does not believe in stopping. First, she spun and writhed and twisted away from a defender, leaving her sprawled on the turf. That was where, as golden hour set in, a magic Valentino show began — with Kaia Gerber in a pair of jeans and a white shirt. Granted, they weren’t just any jeans: they were made from silk gazar entirely embroidered in micro beads dyed 80 different shades of indigo to resemble denim, but still. They looked like jeans. Jeans — or their very fancy doppelgängers — have been the biggest trend of the week. There were more jeans, likewise made from trompe l’oeil beading, in the Jean Paul Gaultier collection guest designed by Julien Dossena, and lots of jeans in all stages of distress at Balenciaga, which also were not denim at all but oil-painted canvas that took two and a half months to create.

There's a "new" Elizabeth Holmes in town, at least according to The New York Times. But did her teardown kill the black turtleneck? In March 2015, Glamour magazine asked Elizabeth Holmes about her style and ran a story about her called "Meet the $9 Billion Woman: Career Advice From Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes." Posters of Hulu's "The Dropout" feature Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes, clad, of course, in the signature turtleneck look. Deep down, I don't think Homes killed the black turtleneck — not really.
During the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on Saturday, Rickie Fowler was on hand to provide a safe demonstration. North Carolina is home to a range of snake species, many of which inhabit the waters of the Tar Heel state. Comments on the PGA’s Twitter post wavered on what species of snake Fowler handled, but it is thought to be a northern watersnake, a nonvenomous species native to North America. Angling his wedge, Fowler gently hooked the snake to lift it out from between a gap in the rocks before it slithered away. Rickie Fowler the ... snake charmer?!
