Holiday horror films work for the same reason holiday tearjerkers do: There’s already an “emotional foundation” with holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, DuPée said. By nodding to stalker/slasher films while refusing to be a stalker/slasher film, “Alice, Darling” may irritate or confuse some viewers.
