Racine, Wisconsin CNN —Days after reportedly calling Milwaukee “horrible” behind closed doors, former President Donald Trump will rally with his supporters just south of the city in one of the country’s top battleground states. The Trump campaign pushed back on some of the public characterization of the alleged remark, saying he was referring to crime and “voter fraud.” As his alleged comment reverberated around the Badger State, Trump clarified to a Fox News reporter, “I love Milwaukee. Milwaukee – in addition to the state capital of Madison – is a center of Democratic power in Wisconsin and home to more voters than any other city in the state. One in five of the votes for Joe Biden en route to his narrow Wisconsin victory in 2020 were cast in Milwaukee. “In a state that’s decided on a razor’s edge, that may ultimately cost Donald Trump the election,” Johnson said.

A little more than a week before the start of this summer’s European soccer championship, one of Germany’s national broadcasters aired a documentary examining the national team’s history through its multiculturalism. Or, rather, the lack of it. While the thrust of the film, “Unity and Justice and Diversity,” focused on the progress that Germany had made, it has reverberated inside the country, and beyond, for a very different reason. Joshua Kimmich, a senior member of Germany’s national team, described the survey as racist. CNN —Filmmaker Payal Kapadia made history Saturday, as she became the first person from India to clinch the prestigious Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the second highest prize after the Palme d’Or. It is the first Indian movie in three decades to compete in Cannes’ main competition. “Please don’t wait another 30 years to have an Indian film,” she said to the audience. “Indian stars shining bright… These women have scripted history, and inspired the entire Indian film fraternity,” he wrote on the platform. In 1947, filmmaker Chetan Anand took Cannes’ top prize for his film “Neecha Nagar,” becoming the only Indian to win the accolade.

On Oct. 18, hundreds of Berkeley High School students, with the blessing of some of their teachers, left their classrooms in the middle of the day and gathered at a nearby park. Just as on the nearby campus of the University of California — famed since the 1960s for its marches, sit-ins and progressive ideals — students at Berkeley High have a long history of hitting the streets in dissent. In the 1960s, they walked out to oppose the Vietnam War. More recently, they have shown up in droves to advocate for Black Lives Matter, immigration reform, reproductive rights and L.G.B.T.Q.
