On Douban, a popular site for reviewing movies, books and music, users compiled a list of nearly 100 Taiwanese celebrities, detailing whether each of them had shared the post. On Saturday, CCTV publicly endorsed Taiwanese celebrities who shared its post, sharing the screenshots of 36 such reposts – fueling a further backlash against those who hadn’t. On Monday, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council weighed in, accusing the Chinese Communist Party of requiring Taiwanese artists to express a political stance. The remarks and retweets by Taiwanese artists of the CCTV unification post came against the backdrop of China’s largest show of force around the island in more than a year. “This is not the first time, and probably not the last, that Taiwanese artists are forced to make a political stand in China,” said the leader.

"Look Again" authors Tali Sharot (left) and Cass R. Sunstein explore how seeing things with fresh eyes can improve happiness, relationships, work and community. The blessing comes as diminished sensitivity to negative stimuli; the curse is that insensitivity relieves the pressure to change things and maybe make life better. CNN: What do you recommend for people considering big life changes? Sunstein: The data we have suggests, if you’re seriously thinking of making a life change, you probably should. Research shows that when people on the fence about moving to a different city, taking a new job or some other big life change do take the plunge, they report being better off months later.

Climate Action Against Disinformation found that, in every month since COP27, the hashtag #climatescam generated more retweets and likes than #climatecrisis and #climateemergency on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Researchers attributed much of #climatescam’s traction to a small group of influential accounts, which they said tended to be far more vocal about climate denial on X than on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Some of the sites pushing climate disinformation made money from ads — a revenue stream that researchers said was enabled by more than 150 advertising exchanges owned by some of the largest tech companies. The marketplaces, which largely use automated auctions to buy and sell online ads, placed ads on at least 15 websites known for hosting climate denial content, according to the report. Doing so flouted policies set up by many of the exchanges to block climate denial content and other disinformation from being monetized.

San Francisco got 24 complaints about the giant light-up sign on X's HQ, CNN reported. San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection got 24 complaints about the giant light-up "X" sign Elon Musk placed on the headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter, the department's spokesperson told CNN. "That new 'X' sign looks really unstable and sketchy," one complaint reads. A crane was used to remove some of the letters from the old sign on the company's San Francisco HQ. Twitter owner Elon Musk officially changed the company's famous bird logo to an "X" on Monday as part of a sweeping rebrand he announced on the social media site over the weekend. The company first began its transition to X in April, when the name of Twitter Inc. changed to X Corp., according to court filings. A group of music publishers filed a lawsuit Wednesday alleging "massive" copyright infringement. With violations of about 1,700 songs up to $150,000 each, the lawsuit could total about $250 million. A group of music publishers allege Twitter has allowed "massive" copyright infringements to happen, and claim the company profits from it. However, the music copyright suit only partially relates to Musk's ownership, and has been years in the making. The suit from a group of 17 music publishers, all members of the National Music Publishers' Association, alleges Twitter has operated for years as the only major social media platform that does not pay licensing fees to music labels to have their copyrighted music on their platform.

Twitter users are engaging with original tweets from Elon Musk less and less. "Elon Musk's tweets attracted more engagement after his stake in Twitter started to increase," Huge said in its analysis. "There is a significant difference in engagement for Elon Musk's original tweets after the acquisition, compared to before the acquisition." That high level of engagement in Spring 2022 quickly fell, however, the Huge data shows, to roughly 5 million engagements per week. While there have been some brief spikes in engagement with Musk's tweets so far this year, overall there has been a decline.
