Calmer winds helped California firefighters battle the once out-of-control Mountain Fire on Friday as they continued to defend homes from the destructive blaze, officials said. Evacuation orders have been lifted for at least two communities near the Mountain Fire in Ventura County, sheriff’s Sgt. Ventura County Fire Department firefighters work to extinguish hotspots at a home that was destroyed in the Mountain Fire, in Camarillo, Calif., on Friday. The blaze destroyed 132 structures through Thursday, and 10 people have been reported injured, according to Ventura County Fire Department spokesperson Andy VanSciver and Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff. If you've ever dreamed of living under the Tuscan sun, you might be able to make it a reality. These grants will cover up to 50% of the costs associated with buying and fixing up a home in a town with less than 5,000 residents. Applicants must be either Italian citizens, EU citizens, or non-EU citizens holding a long-term residency lasting no less than 10 years. They will also need to commit to registering as residents in an Italian town and can't currently be residents in another mountain town. The application closes on July 27 at 1 p.m. local Tuscan time.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said he fondly remembers hearing the distinctive call of the northern bobwhite quail when he was a boy. Like many others, he hunted the birds well into the 1970s before they largely disappeared from the state. Now, the governor is trying to bring back the northern bobwhite, also known simply as quail, to the Mountain State by reintroducing 21,000 of them this year in the state’s biggest repopulation campaign to date.
