The Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity, an outlook measuring home improvement and repair spending on owner-occupied homes, peaked at 17.3% in the third quarter of 2022. The NAHB/Westlake Royal Remodeling Market Index by the National Association of Home Builders reflects a similar decline. In a release for the group's first quarter report, NAHB Remodelers Chair Mike Pressgrove noted that "demand for remodeling remains solid, especially among customers who don't need to finance theirprojects at current interest rates." The increase in home improvement spending, along the decrease in projects, suggests inflation corroded household budgets, according to the home services website.

Home Depot said Thursday that it will open four new distribution centers as it chases more sales from remodelers, contractors and other home professionals. Each facility averages approximately 500,000 square feet — about five times the size of the average Home Depot store. That gives Home Depot a lot of room to grow as it adds capabilities to handle pros' entire orders, he said. Home Depot is changing other aspects of its business to support pros who handle complex and pricey projects. He said Home Depot is trying to bring to the pro business what it once did to DIY — turn itself into a one-stop shop.

For Flagstaff, that figure is 14%, according to data from AirDNA, a short-term rental data provider. "With the acceleration of the creation of vacation rentals during the pandemic, now if visitors are at 1,000, there are 3,000 rentals available,” he said.
