Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with a Chicago-area Costco forklift driver who requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak with the media. I was a supervisor in the warehouse and then ultimately settled down as a forklift driver. Typically, Costco forklift drivers are seen kind of like supervisors, because you designate the flow of the building. I also make more as a forklift driver now than I did ten years ago as a supervisor. You can't keep it on the floor, so you're gonna have to rack it on tall steel shelves, and you're gonna eventually have to bring that stuff down.

A Philadelphia Federal Reserve paper examined $0 monthly student-loan payments on income-driven payment plans. AdvertisementA $0 monthly student-loan payment might only help some borrowers for so long. With student-loan payments often presenting a significant financial burden for borrowers, income-driven repayment plans were created with the idea that borrowers would face a monthly payment they can afford based on their income. In some cases, IDR plans would give borrowers a $0 monthly payment that would still count toward their forgiveness process. Borrowers will still be able to do so manually, but the automatic option could protect those with $0 monthly payments from falling behind on the payment plan's requirements.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon believes it has identified the mechanical failure that led to a fatal crash of an Osprey aircraft in Japan and the grounding of the fleet for two months, a U.S. defense official told The Associated Press. The Air Force investigation is continuing into the Nov. 29 Air Force special operations command CV-22 crash, which killed eight service members. The crash led to a rare grounding on Dec. 6 of about 400 Osprey aircraft across the three services. Both the Air Force and Marine Corps have been running the Osprey's engines; the Marines have been conducting ground movements to keep the aircraft working. While the current Osprey standdown is one of the largest military aircraft groundings in terms of affecting three services’ flight operations, it’s not the longest.

21 Donald Trump election lies listed in his new indictment

The indictment of Trump on four new federal criminal charges, all related to the former president’s effort to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election, lays out some of those lies one by one. Even in listing 21 lies, the 45-page indictment does not come close to capturing the entirety of Trump’s massive catalogue of false claims about the election. The lie that the Justice Department had identified significant concerns that may have affected the outcome of the election. (Page 16)The indictment notes that Trump made this claim on his infamous January 2, 2021 call with Raffensperger, whose staff responded that the claim was inaccurate. The lie that Pennsylvania “want[s] to recertify.” (Page 38) Trump made this false claim in his January 6 speech.

The new plan, known as the SAVE Plan, will fully launch in August. Borrowers who apply during this period will not need to reapply after the official launch. Borrowers can learn more about whether they need to apply for new plan, and how to do it, at this link. Since that process could take time, the department recommends borrowers look into the SAVE Plan should they find they cannot afford payments without broad relief. "No President has fought harder for student borrowers, and the SAVE plan will give millions of borrowers breathing room on their monthly bills now and for years to come."

These include the MAX 7, MAX 8, and the MAX 8200, which is a high-capacity version of the MAX 8 variant. American has 42 MAX planes in its fleet and 88 on order. The carrier has 137 MAX planes in its fleet with firm orders for 417, plus another 147 as options. Though Boeing and its partners are still assessing the impact of the most recent delivery stoppage, delivery delays have become a serious trend for the planemaker. And, Boeing said despite its recent 787 delivery pause, it didn't "anticipate a change to our production and delivery outlook for the year."
The Florida senate passed a bill that would make it harder for public sector unions to collect dues and recertify. While it will impact Democratic-leaning teachers' unions, along with most other public-sector unions, Republican-supporting police and firefighters' unions will be exempt. By making it harder for public employees to pay their union dues, the law makes it harder for teachers' unions to reach the new 60% threshold and recertify. "The governor's staff apparently called around to see the membership of public unions, specifically teachers," Spar said. Of the 100 local teachers unions Spar represents, 70-75 of those locals would need to hold an election to recertify, he said.

DeSantis' latest so-called "Freedom Blueprint" proposal appears similar to a measure the Florida legislature considered in 2021 and 2022 that the state's largest teachers' union, the Florida Education Association, called "anti-freedom" and "anti-educator." Even Charlie Crist, a former congressman and DeSantis' failed 2022 challenger, picked Miami-Dade's teachers' union boss, Karla Hernández-Mats, as his running mate. State lawmakers and the governor gave teachers bonuses this past year and increased pay — though largely among new teachers, according to the Florida Education Association. DeSantis acknowledged during his speech that changes to union dues might emaciate the labor groups, but said if teachers aren't paying dues then they should be decertified. The last two versions of the anti-union died in committee under opposition from Florida AFL-CIO and the Florida Education Association.

Student-loan borrowers in public service have reported issues reaching their loan company, MOHELA. Regardless of who is to blame for the long hold times, it's leaving Nathan in a financially precarious situation. "I'm not even trying to call and ask about the student loan forgiveness. 'Restarting payments is a massive concern'Neither Kate nor Nathan know how much they will have to pay monthly once student-loan payments resume in January.
