CNN —A new study on breast cancer deaths raises questions around whether Black women should screen at earlier ages. Even though Black women have a 4% lower incidence rate of breast cancer than White women, they have a 40% higher breast cancer death rate. “When the breast cancer mortality rate for Black women in their 40s is 27 deaths per 100,000 person-years, this means 27 out of every 100,000 Black women aged 40-49 in the US die of breast cancer during one year of follow-up. They also wrote that health policy makers should pursue equity, not just equality, when it comes to breast cancer screening as a tool to help reduce breast cancer death rates. Experts are debating the most effective uses of artificial intelligence as the technology grows. One of the most beneficial use cases so far has been the tech's ability to identify cancer, the NYT reported. The success of using AI to detect cancer in the Hungarian clinics has inspired doctors in England, Scotland, and Finland to also experiment with the technology, per the Times. Companies have been developing such programs for years, as existing artificial intelligence technologies grow increasingly capable of more complex tasks. "An AI-plus-doctor should replace doctor alone, but an AI should not replace the doctor," Peter Kecskemethy, a computer scientist and cofounder of a company that develops the AI programs assisting doctors, told the Times.

Early Alzheimer's typically hits people ages 65 and older, causing cognitive impairment and other issues. Medicare beneficiaries who agree to participate in CMS-backed research studies, which are broader than clinical trials, would get coverage if Leqembi receives full approval. Drug rollout will take yearsIf everything goes according to Eisai's expectations, the FDA would grant full approval and CMS would provide unrestricted coverage of Leqembi. In that scenario, Eisai anticipates that about 100,000 diagnosed early Alzheimer's patients will be eligible by year three of the drug's rollout. Private insurers are largely waiting for a CMS coverage decision though some may decide to make their coverage decisions earlier, he said.
