WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris called former President Donald Trump's tariff proposals "a sales tax on the American people," in an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle. "You don't just throw around the idea of just tariffs across the board, and that's part of the problem with Donald Trump," Harris said. The questions came during Harris' first one-on-one interview with a national network since becoming the Democratic nominee. Harris has proposed expanding the child tax credit, creating a tax break for homebuilders and providing a subsidy for first-time homeowners. The interview came shortly after Harris' campaign event in Pittsburgh, where she described her economic priorities.

PITTSBURGH — Kamala Harris vowed to govern as a pragmatist who wouldn’t be captive to ideology in an economic speech Wednesday while outlining $100 billion in new investments in manufacturing, a major issue in this battleground state. Pennsylvania voters react to Harris' speechEconomic concerns have been a liability for Democrats throughout the campaign cycle, as inflation rose in the post-pandemic global economy. And while domestic economic policies can have reverberating impacts, the supply chains that caused higher prices are, at least in part, beholden to global economic conditions. Voters who attended Harris' speech expressed confusion that other Americans see Trump as good for the economy. Denise Meyers, 74, a Harris supporter who attended the speech, cited Trump’s anti-union record to argue he’s bad for the middle class.

Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert left the Chargers’ 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers early Sunday after appearing to reaggravate the high-ankle sprain that had sidelined him in practice in the days leading up to the game. Herbert did not play the entire fourth quarter as the Chargers (2-1) lost for the first time, while Pittsburgh (3-0) remained undefeated under quarterback Justin Fields. The ground game wasn’t a boost, either, with the Chargers managing only 61 yards on 20 carries. Herbert left the stadium in a walking boot. After the loss to the Steelers, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that going into Sunday, the team planned to remove Herbert if he showed any sign of a limp.

Normal blood sugar levels are typically within 70 to 99 milligram of sugar per deciliter of blood while fasting, and below 140 mg/dL after eating. AdvertisementBlood tests can determine whether your blood sugar is high, and a growing number of wearables offer real-time updates on how your blood sugar levels change over time. While brief spikes of elevated blood sugar aren't necessarily cause for concern, chronic high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, can develop into prediabetes or eventually type 2 diabetes. Unusual tiredness can be a warning of high blood sugarPotential symptoms of high blood sugar can be difficult to distinguish from other health issues — for example, high blood sugar can cause you to feel more tired than usual. Cuts that won't heal or frequent infections are a warning signDelayed healing is another hallmark of high blood sugar, according to Varughese.

The local police team responsible for the roof a shooter used to fire at ex-President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, had never spoken to the Secret Service prior to the attempted assassination, a report released by the Secret Service on Friday says. Among other errors, the report found that one local police entity working security at the Trump rally requested support from another local department without the Secret Service being aware. While investigating the incident, the Secret Service placed some officials, including the director of the Secret Service’s Pittsburgh Field Office, on leave. “The former president is getting everything that the current president has with respect to Secret Service assets,” Rowe said. Rowe also told reporters at a news conference Friday that the Secret Service did not deny security assets to the Trump campaign ahead of the July rally in Butler.

WASHINGTON — As president, Donald Trump slashed a lucrative tax break enjoyed by coastal donors and suburban swing-state voters. What shifted more than the economy is Trump's needs, said Caroline Bruckner, managing director of American University's Kogod Tax Policy Center. The reversal is one of a flurry of freebies that Trump and his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, are offering voters in the stretch run before Election Day. Trump’s proposal to repeal the SALT cap, which is set to expire next year if Congress takes no action, would reduce federal revenue by $1.2 trillion over a decade, according to CRFB’s estimate. But many voters in those counties would stand to benefit considerably from a repeal of the SALT cap.

President Joe Biden, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris have all voiced opposition to the deal. The United Steelworkers union, which has endorsed Harris for president, has also been a leading opponent of the acquisition. Earlier this month, US Steel said it would be forced to lay off workers and shutter mills without Nippon’s backing. US Steel put itself up for sale in 2023 after receiving an unsolicited $7 billion takeover offer from Ohio-based Cleveland Cliffs. Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. But, as in other states, Democrats have been concerned about the risk of depressed turnout and some gains for Trump among Black voters in Philadelphia. Eight years later, the two states split again, when Roosevelt comfortably won Pennsylvania and Michigan narrowly went to Republican Wendell Willkie. This trio of states has arguably become the most consistent tipping point in American politics. In the nine elections since 1920 when they split their vote, the candidate who carried two of these three states won seven times.

“I’m here to support my wife and everybody else that deserves the right to have freedom of their reproductive rights,” said Goldberg, a 70-year-old retired computer software developer. Women clearly feel the impact of abortion restrictions, said Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. At the same time, he argued, there’s no precedent for reproductive rights being a driving issue for men. The couple has become surrogates for the Harris campaign on reproductive rights, including at last month’s Democratic National Convention. “I’m here because the fight for reproductive rights isn’t just a women’s fight,” Josh Zurawski said at the Chicago convention.
