MEXICO CITY (AP) — California avocado growers are fuming this week about a U.S. decision to hand over pest inspections of Mexican orchards to the Mexican government. Because the United States also grows avocados, U.S. inspectors observe orchards and packing houses in Mexico to ensure exported avocados don’t carry pests that could hurt U.S. crops. The letter added, "We are looking for specifics as to why you have concluded that substituting APHIS inspectors with Mexican government inspectors is in our best interest." Only the states of Michoacan and Jalisco are certified to export avocados to the United States. Some packers in Mexico buy avocados from other, non-certified states, and try to pass them off as being from Michoacan.

Overall, NFL teams are currently averaging 21.4 points per game, the fifth straight year the scoring average has decreased, and the lowest points per game total since 2006. Last season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 yards, the lowest total for a passing yards leader since 2017. There are several theories as to why the passing game has been muted and scoring numbers have decreased. SAO PAULO — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday he would like the league to have as many as 16 international games in a season. “The ownership’s approved eight games already,” Goodell said before the NFL’s first game in Brazil. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a New York Jets-Minnesota Vikings game on Oct. 6 and a Jacksonville Jaguars-Chicago Bears matchup on Oct. 13. The other international game has the New York Giants playing the Carolina Panthers in Munich’s Allianz Arena on Nov. 10. The Green Bay Packers, who are the 12th most-valuable NFL franchise at $6.3 billion, according to CNBC's Official 2024 NFL Team Valuations, are the only publicly owned team in the league. The franchise is completely owned by stockholders, many of them Packers fans, in a structure established more than 100 years ago. The share offerings throughout the years have been used to pull the team out of rocky financial situations and do larger renovations of Lambeau Field.
