CNN —Twenty-four hours and 26 minutes, without stopping to sleep: Nepal’s Phunjo Lama has just broken the world record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest by a woman. Her journey from Everest Base Camp to the top took 14 hours and 31 minutes, then the descent from Everest was another nine hours and 18 minutes. Due to the limited climbing season and challenging conditions on Mount Everest, the window to reach the top of the mountain is small. That record was broken in 2021 by Hong Kong native Ada Tsang in 25 hours and 50 minutes. Currently, the record for fastest ascent by a male climber is 10 hours and 56 minutes, set by Nepali Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa in 2003.

Scientists led by Edgard Camarós, a paleopathologist at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain were studying an approximately 4,600-year-old Egyptian skull when they found signs of brain cancer and its treatment. This discovery, reported in a study published Wednesday in the journal Frontiers in Medicine, suggests that ancient Egyptians studied brain cancer using surgery. If the cuts were made while the person was alive, they may have even attempted to treat it.

Jurors in Donald J. Trump’s criminal trial will begin deliberations on Wednesday after hearing hours of closing arguments that portrayed the case in stark and irreconcilable terms. It could take hours, days or even weeks for the 12 New Yorkers to reach a verdict in the first criminal trial of an American president. And before they begin deliberating, the jurors will receive instructions from the judge on the relevant law. This last stage of the weekslong case comes a day after the jurors watched both sides deliver their final flurry of arguments. The woman, Stormy Daniels, kept quiet after Mr. Trump’s onetime fixer, Michael D. Cohen, bought her silence with a $130,000 hush-money deal.

☆ 10-year Treasury rises as investors weigh state of economy

ET, the yield on the 10-year Treasury was up by over two basis points to 4.5639%, holding above the 4.5% mark it initially crossed Tuesday. The 2-year Treasury yield was last less than one basis points higher to 4.9580%. U.S. Treasury yields were higher on Wednesday as investors considered the state of the economy and digested a weak auction on the five-year note. Yields climbed higher Tuesday after a Treasury Department auction of 5-year notes worth $70 billion saw weak demand. Investors also considered how the economy is faring and awaited fresh economic data due throughout the week which could inform Federal Reserve policymaking.
