Here’s a look at what voters had to say as part of four different groups: Trump loyalists, center-right voters conflicted about Trump, young progressives and traditional Democrats. But a group of these women did admit that the decision by Democrats to swap out Biden for Harris does concern them. “My concern about Trump is him making too aggressive of choices and us not being able to recover from it. But that does make me nervous because, did we vet everything that’s going to happen?” said Alyssa, a 29-year old woman who is still undecided on how she’s voting this fall. Miodrag Ignjatovic | E+ | Getty ImagesAmericans firing up their grills for Fourth of July celebrations will likely pay more for some traditional barbecue staples this year. The average cookout for 10 people will cost $71.22 this year, up 5% from 2023 and about 30% five years ago, according to an American Farm Bureau Federation estimate. That said, consumers have seen prices fall for some specific barbecue items like chicken breast and potatoes, the Farm Bureau said. Meat (including ground beef, pork chops and chicken breast) accounts for 50% of the total cost of an Independence Day barbecue, according to the Farm Bureau. Two pounds of potatoes cost $1.53, down 17%, the Farm Bureau said.

By Rene Wagner and Thomas EscrittBERLIN (Reuters) - Germany declined to be drawn on Friday on whether talks were underway on swapping a Russian state hitman serving a life sentence in a German prison for detained U.S. journalist Evan Gershkovich, an idea floated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I can't say anything on that," deputy government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann said when asked if Russia was seeking such an exchange. "I don't want to address this concrete case, please," she added when asked if Germany was in touch with the United States on the matter. People in the entourage of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is visiting Washington for talks with President Joe Biden, also declined to comment. Chickens stand in a barn on a farm with free-range eggs in the Hannover region. Germany has reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus on a poultry farm in the northern part of the country, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) said on Wednesday, adding to a wave of cases in Europe. The outbreak killed five poultry among a flock of 24,000 on a farm in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern east of Hamburg, the Paris-based WOAH said in a report, citing German authorities. Bird flu, which has led to the culling of hundreds of millions birds in the past years, usually strikes in Europe during autumn and winter. It has recently been detected on farms in several countries including the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia and Hungary.

In the future, companies will be allowed to go public with a minimum market capitalization of one million euros instead of the previous 1.25 million. According to earlier statements by the government, the law will lead to annual tax revenue losses of almost one billion euros from 2026. The Future of Financing Act increases the tax allowance for employee share ownership to 2,000 euros from 1,440 euros. The package, called the Growth Opportunities Act, provides for tax relief of around 7 billion euros ($7.6 billion) a year from 2024, and a total of over 32 billion euros until 2028.

Tiny but bountiful, Antarctic krill make up one of the planet’s largest biomasses, nourishing everything from fish to marine mammals and seabirds. At Steinberg’s lab, researchers are examining how warming oceans — Antarctic krill need water colder than 4 degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit) to survive — are altering krill’s life cycle. However, a leading marine biologist the industry once relied on to burnish its environmental credentials has since denounced krill fishing. She accepted with the hope that she could help mitigate the effects of krill fishing on the Antarctic ecosystem. Today, she believes that krill fishing should be banned.

REUTERS/Wolfgang Rattay Acquire Licensing RightsPARIS, Oct 12 (Reuters) - President Emmanuel Macron will meet political party leaders on Thursday and address the nation on TV to call for unity and try to prevent any spillover of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in France, where there has been a rise in antisemitic acts. France has Europe's largest Muslim and Jewish populations and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has in the past contributed to tensions between the two. Antisemitic acts have risen in France since Hamas attacked Israeli towns on Saturday, killing more than 1,300 people, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. Israel has responded by launching the most powerful bombing campaign on Gaza, ruled by Hamas, in the 75-year history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, killing more than 1,200 and destroying whole neighbourhoods. Darmanin said France had seen a spike in online hatred but also more direct threats.

BERLIN (AP) — A series of fires hit railway infrastructure in the German city of Hamburg overnight, causing widespread disruption to trains between Hamburg and Berlin and between the port city and the Baltic Sea coast. Railway operator Deutsche Bahn said that trains on the main high-speed route between Hamburg and Berlin were canceled because of vandalism. It said it was running some trains on an alternative route that takes up to an hour longer. Hamburg police said that cable ducts next to railway lines were set on fire at three locations in the city between 2:30 and 4 a.m. They said in a statement that they suspect “a political motive as the background” and are seeking witnesses, but gave no further details of the reasons for their suspicions.

CNN —In Switzerland, an ambitious proposal could see the construction of an expansive underground network through which self-driving pods would transport freight across the country. The project, called Cargo Sous Terrain (“Underground Cargo” in English), is intended to reduce the reliance on trucks for moving cargo. “In the US, currently we are facing a big shortage of truck drivers and underground freight transport will resolve this issue as well.”In recent years, there have been other proposals for underground freight transport networks around the world. Families can expect to pay $67.73 for a party of 10, down 3% from last year’s record high, according to a survey from the American Farm Bureau Federation. Families are still feeling the pinch of high inflation along with other factors keeping prices high,” said Roger Cryan, chief economist at the American Farm Bureau Federation. This year’s cookout cost is the second highest on record, following last year’s record setting number — $69.68 for a party of 10.
