SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Daniel Kahneman, a psychologist who won a Nobel Prize in economics for his insights into how ingrained neurological biases influence decision making, died Wednesday at the age of 90. In an excerpt from his book, Kahneman described a “leaderless group” challenge used by the Israeli army's Psychology Branch to assess future leadership potential. “It was the first cognitive illusion I discovered,” Kahneman later wrote. “The experience was magical,” Kahneman later wrote in his Nobel autobiography. Combined with other findings, the pair developed a theory of risky choice they eventually named “prospect theory.”Kahneman received the Nobel Prize in economics in 2002 for these and other contributions that ended up underpinning the discipline now known as behavioral economics.

London CNN —The many messages of support King Charles III received following his cancer diagnosis “reduced me to tears most of the time,” the British monarch has said in a new statement released by Buckingham Palace Friday. The King has received more than 7,000 letters and cards from across the world since his diagnosis earlier this month, the palace revealed. The British monarch also said the messages had “reduced me to tears most of the time.”Buckingham Palace announced on February 6 that the 75-year-old British King had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and would be stepping back from public-facing duties while he undergoes treatment. Though the King has stopped carrying out public engagements while he undergoes his cancer treatment, he is continuing with his duties as head of state. Alongside the statement of appreciation, Buckingham Palace on Friday also shared some of the images and videos the king has received.

LONDON (AP) — British filmmaker Terence Davies, best known for a pair of powerful, lyrical movies inspired by his childhood in postwar Liverpool, has died at the age of 77. Davies’ manager John Taylor said the director died “peacefully at home in his sleep” on Saturday after a short illness. After making several short films, Davies made his feature debut as writer-director in 1988 with “Distant Voices, Still Lives,” a dreamlike — sometimes nightmarish — collage of a film that evoked a childhood of poverty and violence leavened by music and movie magic. The film won the Cannes International Critics Prize in 1988, and in 2002 was voted the ninth-best film of the past 25 years by British film critics. The autobiographical films opened the door to bigger budgets and more mainstream films, still showcasing Davies' distinctive lyricism and often set in the 19th or early 20th centuries.

World Rugby said one in 12 males, including the organisation's chairman Bill Beaumont, and one in 200 females live with CVD to varying degrees and to accommodate them certain colour combinations will not be allowed at the tournament. Australia will also don an unfamiliar white kit when they take on Portugal in Saint-Etienne on Oct. 1. "An estimated 300 million people live with some form of CVD, which can impact their day-to-day life in a variety of ways through being unable to see or differentiate certain colour combinations," World Rugby said in a statement. Kit combinations at the World Cup were also decided based on the potential for those taking part in games living with CVD.
