Opinion: Credibility is the key at Trump trial

The idea that Cohen talked to Trump about Daniels on that call “was a lie,” Blanche alleged. Moreover, my experience has been that juries don’t decide based upon one moment — they base their judgment on an overall view.”There were allegedly three parties aware of the scheme to conceal the real reason Trump paid Cohen more than $400,000 in supposed legal fees: Trump, Cohen and Allen Weisselberg, then-chief financial officer of the Trump Organization. “Weisselberg could be the linchpin to validate Cohen’s claims about Trump agreeing to reimburse him through Trump Organization, as a business expense,” wrote attorney Stacy Schneider. Trump seems to be tempted to go mano a mano and show that he is better fit to be commander-in-chief. The new requirement for GOP politicians wanting to demonstrate their loyalty to Trump seems to be visiting the Manhattan courthouse where he’s on trial.

The heated exchange between Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche and Cohen marked the biggest blow to the prosecution’s case so far. But the DA also must prove the actual business records crime, for which Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. How I see it, Cohen’s testimony only satisfied half the equation beyond a reasonable doubt. Weisselberg could be the linchpin to validate Cohen’s claims about Trump agreeing to reimburse him through Trump Organization, as a business expense. If so, there would have been no intent to falsify the business records.

Stress at work is inevitable — but embracing it can help you become stronger, smarter and happier, according to one Ivy League expert. According to Wiens, the "most underrated" skill successful people use to stave off burnout is shifting their stress response from "fight-or-flight" to "challenge." You're probably familiar with fight-or-flight, the stress response that can happen when you encounter a perceived threat. Wiens discovered this correlation by studying people thriving in high-stress environments, including business executives and police chiefs. Practicing this alternative response can boost your resilience in the face of stress and, in turn, lead to better health, emotional well-being and productivity at work – even during periods of high stress, Wiens discovered.

The 65-year-old billionaire entrepreneur weighed in on the common leadership style in a recent post on social media network X. If you find yourself constantly micromanaging the people around you, something's wrong, Cuban noted. Trust the process or fix what's broken if you always have to micromanage," Cuban wrote in his March 11 post. Cuban's post was a response to a thread about counterintuitive leadership principles written by Ofek Lavian, CEO of financial tech company Forage. In that thread, Lavian referenced a 20VC podcast episode from last year featuring Shopify CEO and co-founder Tobi Lütke, who embraced micromanaging.

In an interview with CNN, McConnell said Schumer’s speech was a direct contradiction of US policy and called on the White House not to go down that road. McConnell rejected calls for conditions on military aid to Israel – something some Democrats have called for in an effort to tamp down civilian deaths. In his speech, Schumer explained his deep misgivings about the toll on innocent people in Gaza. “I am anguished that the Israeli war campaign has killed so many innocent Palestinians,” he said. McConnell blamed the Biden administration for micromanaging the war in Gaza and said Schumer’s calling for “regime change” in the wrong country.

But I've decided not to track my high school senior when he's out and about — even when he's behind the wheel. I'm not naïve: I know my son won't always make the correct decisions. After the first rounds of return-to-office mandates in 2023, many companies are now introducing more punitive measures to make their employees come to the office — actively tracking attendance, micromanaging employees' time, and blocking remote workers from bonuses and career progression. AdvertisementThis week, Dell informed staff that most of its workers will have to come into the office an average of three days a week. Mike Blake/ReutersIn November, Amazon also added a no-promotions policy for perennial remote workers. For example, women — who tend to take on more responsibility for the family and therefore benefit more from flexible remote work policies — will take a bigger hit from punitive policies, Cooper said. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recorded a 16% increase in mental health disability complaints between 2021 and 2022 from employees who want remote work allowances, The Hill reported.

Exxon Mobil is suing two activist investors to prevent their proposal calling for emissions cuts at the oil giant from going to a vote of shareholders. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas on Sunday, Exxon accused the investors, Arjuna Capital and Follow This, of abusing the process for proposing shareholder votes to advance their priorities with votes “calculated to diminish the company’s existing business.”Arjuna filed a proposal in December for a nonbinding resolution that urged Exxon to accelerate its plans to reduce its carbon emissions and expand the scope of the emissions it measures to include its suppliers and customers. Follow This joined in support of the proposal shortly thereafter, according to the complaint. The proposal “does not seek to improve ExxonMobil’s economic performance or create shareholder value,” Exxon said in the complaint, but is instead “constraining and micromanaging” the company’s operations.

However, the top flight of English soccer had never seen an Australian manager in its 31-year history – that is until the arrival of Ange Postecoglou. Mr. DeSantis has a long history throughout his political career of cycling through different teams, a fact that people who have worked for him have attributed to his micromanaging style. His allies have questioned the messaging and depth of the ad-buying by the super PAC, according to two people briefed on the matter. A third said some allies believed Mr. DeSantis was being blamed by voters for the negative spots. Since they came into existence nearly 15 years ago, super PACs have traditionally handled negative messaging and advertising against a candidate’s rival. The group’s main strategist, Jeff Roe, and a board member, Scott Wagner, who is a college friend of Mr. DeSantis, had a heated argument during a discussion about money, according to people briefed on the matter.

Just last week, he was giving “pointers” to some of our very seasoned directors, who in turn complained to me. So I have to ask, is there a professional way to tell someone they are too arrogant about their role within a company? I’m all for collaborative work environments, mentoring younger colleagues, and encouraging people to pursue their ambitions for advancement. This new policy feels like they don’t trust us, and it seems overkill to have to check in daily. Corporations often create busywork for one reason or another, and maybe they don’t trust you, but why do you care?

Yes, there’s international variation on these themes, which I’ve written about, and the authors of the commentary cite Finland, in particular, as a place where children still have a lot of autonomy. They theorize that a lack of independent activities negatively affects a child’s internal locus of control. When children aren’t allowed to do things on their own, they may have a weaker internal LOC, and that is “highly predictive” of certain levels of anxiety and depression. Which is that you’re taking away the opportunity for kids to have control over what they’re doing, “Because you are always controlling them. But one reason parents are overcontrolling is that they are worried about things like crime, bullying, inappropriate internet content and so on, and these things have their own negative effect on kids.

That's about 25% of money in all 401(k) plans. Typically, as long as you have $5,000 invested in your employer's plan, you can leave it there when you leave. A 401(k) plan comes with limited investment options, and the ones in your old plan may not be very attractive. This makes a lot of sense for people who gravitate toward simple, passive investing strategies, which tend to be available in just about every 401(k) plan, says Betz. A 401(k) is just about always going to come with a limited menu of investment options, and maybe this one is full of high-fee, low-performing mutual funds.

The story starts after the passing of Toula’s father, Gus, the patriarch played with grumbling affection by Michael Constantine, who died in 2021. Only six people remain in the village, and two of them are secretly dating — the series’s core trope remains a hushed romance. The oddest disposable gag comes when Toula blurts her sexual attraction to a mustachioed stranger (Alexis Georgoulis). The ancient Greeks wrote tragedy after tragedy warning against hubris. Vilda says Spain sacking 'unfair'
  + stars: | 2023-09-06 | by ( Fernando Kallas | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
MADRID, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Former Spain's women's team coach Jorge Vilda said on Wednesday that he didn't expect to be fired by the country's football federation (RFEF), adding it was "unfair" and "undeserved" weeks after winning the Women's World Cup. The RFEF later announced it had appointed Montse Tome to succeed Vilda. Considered to be a close ally, Vilda applauded Rubiales when he refused to resign on Aug. 25 but later issued statements condemning his behaviour. The suspended RFEF president praised Vilda for the World Cup triumph in his speech and offered him a new four-year contract, increasing his annual salary to 500,000 euros ($536,000) from 160,000 euros. Their explanation was that of 'structural changes'," Vilda said about how he learned he was being sacked.
