Over the summer, Florida’s Broward County Public Schools made the decision to ban students from using cellphones and other communication devices for the entire school day. It's a particularly sensitive topic in Broward County after the 2018 Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which is in the district. Carline Dumoulin, a mother of two students at Broward’s Cypress Bay High School, is one of those signatories. Broward County school board member Debra Hixon was present at the meeting where the rule was approved, but had left before the vote. Last year, a video of several students fighting at West Broward High School circulated online, gaining thousands of views on X.

Read previewA few years ago, our youngest child shared they were nonbinary at 13 years old. Over the last few years, my teen has taught me what nonbinary means — going beyond the definition. From there, I asked my teen to share what nonbinary means to them and their preferred pronouns. Related storiesEarly on, I made the mistake of relying on my child to tell people and explain what nonbinary means. But a new report from Consumer Reports said it recently compared the nutritional profiles of two Lunchables kits served in schools and found they have even higher levels of sodium than the Lunchables kits consumers can buy in stores. The non-profit consumer group said it has petitioned the US Department of Agriculture, which oversees the federally assisted school meal program, to remove Lunchables food kits from school cafeterias, as a result. The introduction of Lunchables in schools came amid proposed changes to school food guidelines by the USDA, which oversees the federally assisted school meal program. The proposed changes aimed to reduce added sugars and sodium levels in school-provided lunches. Food additives are considered “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) by the US Food and Drug Administration, but not everyone agrees.

Men (67%) are more likely than women (54%) to talk politics with co-workers, and younger generations are more likely to engage in political conversations than their older counterparts. Overall, men ages 35 and up and women ages 18-34 appear to be the most likely to talk about politics with their colleagues. When looking just at Gen Z and Millennial women, the percentage rose even higher to 81%, compared to around 60% of Gen Z and Millennial men. For Gen Z employees, these numbers rose to 49% and 44%, respectively. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that company leaders should avoid political talk all together.

The tiny, half-pint cartons of milk served with millions of school lunches nationwide may soon be scarce in some cafeterias, with districts across the country scrambling to find alternatives. The problem is not a shortage of milk itself, but the cardboard cartons used to package and serve it, according to dairy industry suppliers and state officials. The shortage is affecting the company’s ability to “fully supply some school milk orders,” according to Matt Herrick, spokesperson for the International Dairy Foods Association. In Clarence, New York, local school district officials told parents they plan to provide “small bottles of water or cups of milk with lids” if the cartons run out. In Everett, Washington, school officials told parents to expect a disruption in cafeteria milk supply that could “range up to several months.”Herrick said U.S. milk processors are working with other package suppliers to resolve the shortage.

The Lunchables fresh fruit tray not only has a new location – Lunchables are typically found in a store’s refrigerated aisle – but also tweaked packaging and pricing. Lunchables is heading to the produce aisle with a fresh fruit snack tray for kids. The fresh fruit option will also have a shorter shelf life of about 10 days compared to 90 to 110 days for other Lunchables. Lunchables, he said, has included fruit in past products but not fresh fruits. The catalyst to rethink fruits in the snack tray emerged last year when the brand “saw almost a 500% increase in search for Lunchables with fruits,” he said.
