Dollar Tree believed acquiring Family Dollar would help it compete against larger rivals. “When Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar, they didn’t really know what they were doing,” D’Arezzo said. Many Family Dollar stores were located too close to each other and cannibalized each other’s own sales, too, D’Arezzo said. Family Dollar “needs more work than the company originally thought.”A year later, an activist investor pushed for a sale of the “underperforming” Family Dollar business, and Family Dollar announced it would close 390 stores. Dollar Tree and Family Dollar executives say Family Dollar can still succeed, however.

Three times over the five hours, Biden told Hur he is a “frustrated architect.”He allowed that his wife, Jill, once offered to send him to architecture school if he’d only stop running for the Senate. “I have them hanging on the walls all over the downstairs, the television room, and some in the library,” Biden told Hur. In subsequent years, as vice president, Biden collected $2,200 a month in rent payments for the guest house from the Secret Service. It was there that investigators found his personal notebooks documenting key meetings from his time as vice president. “I just wanted you to know I picked out the walnut tree that got cut down,” Biden told investigators.

The Post-Vacation Clarity
  + stars: | 2023-08-19 | by ( Melissa Kirsch | More About Melissa Kirsch | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
If you’re lucky, you might get out of your home and your head, take some time off and away. ), as I was recently, with that post-vacation clarity, whereby the excesses of one’s everyday life seem gaudy, nearly intolerable. A week spent living out of a suitcase and the concept of owning more than one sweatshirt seems silly. It’s not the stuff itself — having enough stuff is a privilege — but the complications that accompany the stuff. You spend time in a new environment, on a different schedule, maybe eating different things, trying on other ways of living.
Consumers will win in cannabis-credit card clash

The $376 billion payments network wants its financial partners in transactions for cannabis to crack down on using its debit cards, Bloomberg reported on July 26. The budding industry is running out of convenient options for customers to pay for its products. By definition, payments networks such as Mastercard and Visa (V.N) are middlemen, facilitating the movement of money between parties. In the weed business, that means they take the money from the buyer’s bank account and ship it into the dispensary’s. In Washington, D.C., some cannabis shops peddle quasi-worthless knickknacks such as stickers to customers while “gifting” small amounts of pot.

German-style Christmas markets crop up all over the world this time of year. For me, a visit to a Christmas market is an essential part of the festive season. Whether with family, friends, or colleagues, a Christmas market and a few glasses of mulled wine always hit the spot. I visited the "Weihnachten an der Spree," or Christmas on the Spree, all-inclusive Christmas market in Berlin, Germany, to see if it was worth it. So if, like me, you like to stroll through Christmas markets and look at stalls full of handcrafted objects, decorations, and other knickknacks, you'll be disappointed.
A sentimental card or letter can smooth over the transactional rough edges of a cash gift. If you’re sending money electronically, it’s great to note in the card the method by which you’ve sent money: “Check your Venmo for the gift that accompanies this card UNLESS YOU HATE MONEY,” or similar phrasing of your choice. Don’t even give them a gift card, which limits where they can redeem it and adds the pressure of an expiration date. And even if you feel annoyed by an overt request for a monetary gift, don’t decide to opt out with the gift of nothing. If you’d like to receive cashEmbrace transparencyMaybe people used to pretend they didn’t need money or that gifts didn’t…cost money, but those days are happily behind us.
This is how van life has enabled them to save $108,000 since 2020, as told to PollyAnna Brown. In September 2020, I got a management company to bring me brand deals for user-generated content — content that aligned my channel with sponsored items. By cutting our expenses, growing my business, and doing van life our way, we've saved $108,899.92 in just over two years. Van life also requires more oil changes, and we had to increase our phone plan so that we could hot spot for WiFi. That's how we've approached van life, and we love it.

Here's Taber's advice for decorating and organizing a small space:Shop for used items onlinePhoto: Beatriz Bajuelos.
