The New Mexico Democrat could become the first Native American to lead the Interior Department. As a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe in New Mexico, she would be the first Native American to hold the post. Haaland went on to win and became one of the first two Native American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives. She became one of the first Native American women ever elected to Congress, along with Sharice Davids, a Democrat from Kansas. Michael Connor, a deputy secretary of the Interior under Obama who is also of Native American ancestry, is reportedly another top contender.

Warner Bros. announced Thursday that it will make its full 2021 film slate available to stream for a one-month period each, exclusively on HBO Max. Each of the films will be simultaneously released in theaters and available for the limited window on the streaming service. After the one-month period on HBO Max, the films will be taken off the platform and continue to show in theaters in the U.S. and internationally. HBO Max and Warner Bros. are both owned by WarnerMedia, which in turn is owned by AT&T. “We’re living in unprecedented times, which call for creative solutions, including this new initiative for the Warner Bros. Pictures Group,” said Ann Sarnoff, chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group.

Warner Bros. announced on Thursday an unprecedented distribution strategy for its 2021 theatrical release slate as the coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate Hollywood. The movie studio will debut all of its 2021 movies on HBO Max in the US the same day they hit theaters. The movies will be available on Max for one month, after which they'll leave the streamer and continue to play in theaters. Warner Bros. had previously announced that "Wonder Woman 1984" would debut on HBO Max the same day it hits theaters on December 25. This is a huge step for Warner Bros., which committed to theaters earlier this year when it debuted Christopher Nolan's "Tenet" in cinemas.

AT&T's Warner Bros. announced on Thursday that all of its films scheduled to launch in 2021 will be released on HBO Max at the same time they are available in theaters. It's also a move that Warner Bros. already made with "Wonder Woman 1984," which will be released to theaters and HBO Max on Christmas Day. That movie was originally scheduled to come out in the summer, but was delayed several times before WarnerMedia decided to release it on HBO Max. HBO Max is AT&T's online video service, which launched in the U.S. in May. In July, Universal shortened the number of days films needed to run in theaters before they were available online through an agreement with AMC Theaters.

The captain of the California dive boat that caught fire in 2019, killing 34 people on a weekend trip, has been indicted on seaman's manslaughter counts, prosecutors said Tuesday. Thirty-three passengers and one crew member died after the fire erupted on the Conception, a 75-foot diving vessel, early Sept. 2 off the coast of Santa Cruz Island. The indictment alleges misconduct and negligence, including the failure to have a night watch or patrol — something that federal transportation safety officials had also highlighted in October. The National Transportation Safety Board had also faulted the U.S. Coast Guard for not enforcing the requirement to post a roving night watchman. The federal transportation safety board's report concludes that most were awake but could not escape before being overcome.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The captain of a dive boat that caught fire and sank off the California coast in 2019, killing 34 people in one of the state’s deadliest maritime disasters, was indicted on Tuesday on federal manslaughter charges, U.S. prosecutors said. FILE PHOTO: Rescue personnel return to shore with the victims of a pre-dawn fire that sank a commercial diving boat off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, U.S., September 2, 2019. The five surviving crew members, including Boylan, had been above deck in berths behind the wheelhouse and escaped by leaping overboard as the burning boat sank into the Pacific. They told investigators that flames coming from the passenger quarters were too intense to save anyone trapped below. Following the disaster, the U.S. Coast Guard issued a safety bulletin urging limits on the use of lithium-ion batteries and chargers aboard passenger vessels.

(CNN) The eldest daughter of the late Jerry Rawlings, a former president of Ghana, has warned against scammers using fake social media accounts that claim to be raising funds for her father's funeral. In a statement posted on Facebook, Zanetor Rawlings said the culprits are purporting to be her or a representative and urging individuals to make donations to funeral arrangements. "The modus operandi of these criminals is to first engage the attention of unsuspecting people who genuinely wish to express their condolence to the MP, then they proceed to solicit for donations for the funeral arrangements," Rawlings, who represents the Klottey Korle constituency in Ghana's parliament, said on Friday. Her office asked the public to be on the lookout and report anyone to the police who engages with them on social media claiming to be her. One example that she posted shows an impersonator sending bank account information to a victim and asking them to "please try and donate if you can," claiming the funds are for "arrangements for the funeral."

Seven business owners, all of whom run ads for small businesses, told Business Insider that Facebook's slow, opaque, and "pay-to-play" customer support system has left them locked out for weeks as they try to get erroneous bans resolved. But in interviews with Business Insider, seven business owners and ad agencies said they've seen an uptick in bans that Facebook ultimately admitted were made in error. We apologize for any inconvenience recent disruptions may have caused," a Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider. He told Business Insider he managed to contact the fact checker, who acknowledged the error, and the ad was restored temporarily. Apple makes another concession on App Store fees

The extension will help businesses by giving them more time to hold paid digital events rather than in-person events during the Covid-19 pandemic, without the additional fee. The move is the latest olive branch from Apple to critics of the App Store, which say the iPhone giant's control over the platform and fees are anticompetitive. Apple requires iPhone apps to use Apple's App Store payment processing, which takes 30% of total payments and has been an antitrust focus of policymakers around the world. However, in-person goods, such as ordering a ride through Uber or buying something from an online retailer, are not required to use App Store payments. In September, Apple clarified that one-to-one person classes through an iPhone app could be billed directly, but any virtual classes where an instructor or group works with multiple people were required to use App Store payments.
