Not only is it unlikely I'll ever be able to afford a house, but I most likely won't have enough money to retire. Neither of my parents taught me about personal finance, so saving for retirement wasn't on my radar. Had I started investing when I was 20 years old in 2005, I would have seen the S&P 500 grow my investments by 371%. Between my Roth and 401(k), I'm putting $640 toward my retirement each month. CrowdStrike is well-known in the cybersecurity industry, but until today, I don't think anyone was aware of its dominance as a platform on Windows. However, CrowdStrike might have evidence to suggest that this is a freak accident, so I don't think it's fair to point fingers too much. I don't think that's realistic. I don't think anyone really understood the true scope and presence of CrowdStrike before today. I don't think technology is intrinsically good or evil; it depends on how it's used and regulated.

Trump victory trades to swell after shooting, investors say
  + stars: | 2024-07-14 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +4 min
Saturday's shooting at U.S. former President Donald Trump's election rally raises his odds of winning back the White House, and trades betting on his victory will increase this coming week, investors said on Sunday. Trump was shot in the ear during the rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday in what the authorities were treating as an assassination attempt. The first shooting of a U.S. president or major party candidate since a 1981 assassination attempt on Republican President Ronald Reagan could upend the Nov. 5 rematch between Republican Trump and President Joe Biden, a Democrat, which has been tight in opinion polls. World leaders and U.S. politicians condemned the shooting, while some industry executives, including Tesla chief Elon Musk, declared their support for Trump. Investors also expect an extension of corporate and personal tax cuts expiring next year, fuelling concerns about rising budget deficits under Trump.

CNN —A group of major record labels is suing two AI startups, alleging they wrongfully used popular artists’ work to train their systems to produce copyrighted music without their consent. Udio is the company behind “BBL Drizzy,” the AI-generated song that went viral last month during the Kendrick Lamar and Drake spat. Udio was founded last year by former Google DeepMind researchers to make it “easy for anyone to create emotionally resonant music in an instant,” according to the company. The platform, which allows users to create songs with only a few prompts, relies on OpenAI’s ChatGPT for lyrics and title development. Udio and Suno did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

And some people opt to get their caffeine through energy drinks or caffeine pills. In rarer scenarios, an overconsumption of caffeine can lead to a state called caffeine intoxication or caffeine overdose. Caffeine intoxication occurs when a person has dangerously high levels of caffeine in the system. While rare, there is always a potential for caffeine intoxication if a person is drinking irresponsibly. Caffeine intoxication is more than the headache you get from drinking too much expresso.

But the blog does offer insight into how U.S. geopolitical rivals have been using large-language models to expand their ability to more effectively breach networks and conduct influence operations. But criminals and offensive hackers use it as well, and the introduction of large-language models led by OpenAI's ChatGPT upped that game of cat-and-mouse. — Iran's Revolutionary Guard has used large-language models to assist in social engineering, in troubleshooting software errors, and even in studying how intruders might evade detection in a compromised network. “Of course bad actors are using large-language models — that decision was made when Pandora’s Box was opened," said Amit Yoran, CEO of the cybersecurity firm Tenable. Some cybersecurity professionals complain about Microsoft's creation and hawking of tools to address vulnerabilities in large-language models when it might more responsibly focus on making them more secure.

Jeremy Allen White ’s naked torso is hard to miss in the U.S. right now courtesy of Calvin Klein’s latest ad campaign, which features the star of the chef drama “The Bear” in his underwear and not much else. But the brand’s proclivity for bare-all advertising has landed it in hot water across the pond. The U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority on Wednesday said it had upheld two complaints that a 2023 ad featuring FKA Twigs had irresponsibly objectified the singer. The regulator also deemed that the ad was overtly sexual and not suitable to be displayed as a poster that could be seen by children and anyone it might offend.

The ousting of Kevin McCarthy has thrown the House back into chaos, and there's no clear successor. Some have speculated that a "compromise speaker" or "coalition government" could emerge. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe fall of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy at the hands of Rep. CNN —President Joe Biden has decided that the headquarters of US Space Command will remain in Colorado and not move to Alabama, two US officials told CNN on Monday, reversing a decision by then-President Donald Trump. US Space Command, which is a joint command and separate from the US Space Force military branch, is currently housed in Colorado Springs, but the Air Force recommended near the end of Trump’s presidency that the command be moved to Huntsville, Alabama. Former Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett also chose Huntsville as the preferred location for SPACECOM headquarters in 2021. Colorado Springs is home to Peterson Space Force Base, previously known as Peterson Air Force Base. Rep. Doug Lamborn, a Republican from Colorado and chair of the House Armed Services subcommittee on strategic forces, hailed Biden’s decision to keep Space Command headquarters at Peterson Space Force Base, calling it “the most viable option” and the “best permanent home” for the military’s newest combatant command.

AMSTERDAM, July 10 (Reuters) - Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte faces a no confidence vote in parliament on Monday which could end his run as the longest serving government leader in Dutch history, three days after he abruptly handed in the resignation of his fourth administration. Normally a no confidence vote wouldn't threaten Rutte, as he could count on the support of his four-party majority government. The leader of the liberal D66, the second-largest party after Rutte's conservative VVD, said the prime minister had behaved "irresponsibly", while the Christian Democrat CDA called him "reckless". Coalition partners have not made clear if they will support the no confidence vote during the debate, scheduled to start at 0815 GMT. Rutte, 56, became prime minister in 2010 and is the longest serving government leader in the EU after Hungary's Viktor Orban.

North Korea’s top political leaders “bitterly criticized” officials responsible for a botched attempt to launch a military satellite last month and ordered them to try again, state media reported on Monday. The May 31 launch was meant to put North Korea’s first military reconnaissance satellite into orbit. But the rocket, which set off alarms and an evacuation order in Seoul, malfunctioned and crashed into the sea off South Korea’s west coast. The South later salvaged what appeared to be the second stage of the rocket — a new model, the Chollima-1 — along with other debris that could provide valuable data on the North’s advancing rocket and missile technology. At a meeting of the Central Committee of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party that ended Sunday, the party’s Politburo “bitterly criticized the officials who irresponsibly conducted the preparations for satellite launch,” the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported.

Under current guidelines, single women are barred from freezing their eggs, with assisted reproductive technologies only available to married women with fertility issues. In recent months, some provinces have extended childbirth benefits for unmarried women, and in the southwestern province of Sichuan province single women are increasingly undergoing IVF treatments in private clinics. SOCIAL STIGMALike many Chinese women, Xu spent her twenties and early thirties focused on career development, but was constantly reminded of women's fertility decline with age. "I think society should stop this stigma and recognise the diverse circumstances of single women, as well as their courage and independence." "I hope that all single women can achieve bodily autonomy and reproductive autonomy, and that everyone is allowed to have the space for making independent choices," she said.
