Sure, I could walk, catch a bus, or summon a rideshare (and I often do) — but I prefer to run. When I moved to Seattle in January 2022, I intended to ship my car from Florida once I got settled in. I've run multiple sub-6 miles and a sub-20 5k — and I'm only getting started. Run-commuting brought me connection and communityMore than miles, run-commuting has gifted me with connections I never would've made, conversations I never would've had. I sold my car and kept my run-commuteMy Prius never made it to Seattle.

Former President Donald Trump spent much of his first altercation with Vice President Kamala Harris leaning forward, hands on the lectern, brooding. "They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there," Trump said, referencing a baseless claim about Haitian immigrants in an answer about immigration. At one point, Trump did glance over when Harris attempted to speak into her microphone that was muted. "I'm talking now," Trump said, in a reference to what Harris said to then-Vice President Mike Pence in the 2020 election.

Nearly two weeks after a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles, was attacked by counterprotesters, university officials still have not explained why security officers stood by for hours while the attack was underway, nor have they arrested any of those who swarmed in wielding metal rods, water bottles and firecrackers in one of the worst outbreaks of violence in the college protests that have rocked the country. The extent of the policing failure has become clearer in recent days, as witnesses have come forward to describe a chaotic night of violence on April 30, in which students and bystanders repeatedly called 911 and nonemergency lines, finding little help and calls that were disconnected. A dispatcher told one caller pleading for help that they were ending the call because “I have actual emergencies to handle.”One man was filmed by a local television station on the phone with emergency dispatchers, alerting them that people were getting hurt. “Security has abandoned this encampment,” he could be heard saying before lowering his phone and looking at it. “They just hung up on me again,” he said incredulously.

Merchan didn't hit Blanche as hard as a federal judge in Manhattan has hit Trump lawyer Alina Habba for her lawyering. During the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial in January, Judge Lewis Kaplan bench-slapped Habba 14 times during a single day of testimony. "Please direct me to the portion of the original gag order, or the subsequent gag order, where it makes any exception if Mr. Trump feels he is under attack. The judge told Blanche to file a response, in writing, explaining why Trump should not be held in contempt for violating the gag order. The judge paused, then added, with some sarcasm, "I don't recall inserting that anywhere in either gag order."

So now, rather than staying up to date with current events, my patients are withdrawing as much as possible from the news. Withdrawing from political information or solicitations is an active stance as contrasted with the more common idea of disengagement or apathy, which is a passive stance. Their sense of purpose comes from maintaining an active stance of withdrawal as a silent protest against a system that feels broken and unfair. Having a sense of agency is better for mental health than acquiescence, but it can be tricky to find the line between being informed versus overwhelmed. However, developing a sense of purpose is a more effective antidote to despair than active withdrawal.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden on Tuesday slammed Donald Trump after the former president said he would encourage Russia to invade countries that don’t meet their NATO obligations, saying such comments amount to bowing down to Vladimir Putin. The remarks – Biden’s latest criticism of Trump from the White House – are some of his harshest criticism of his likely rival on foreign policy to date. “Can you imagine a former president of the United States saying that?” Biden asked incredulously from the State Dining Room. The White House criticized Trump’s comments shortly after they were made. Win McNamee/Getty ImagesBut Biden’s criticism of Trump from the White House went a step further.

Calvin Klein has always trafficked in high and low — in classic all-American athleticism, shot through with an untethered primal lust. Some other Calvin Klein ads fail to have the same friction, the right wrongness. There are faintly fascistic undertones in the form Calvin Klein valorizes. “First in war — first in peace — and first in the hearts of his countrymen,” Lee wrote of Washington. Joe Biden is 81, the oldest president ever and one who is struggling with John Adams-level unpopularity. On Friday afternoon the US Supreme Court announced it would hear arguments on the case February 8. Trump responded by accusing Biden of “pathetic fearmongering.”It’s been three years since Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6. The name came from a letter Gordon sent to a friend explaining “how she, as a 350-pound woman, would like to be addressed.”“Just say fat,” Gordon reads from her essay in the film.

The Jets have 21 days to activate Rodgers from the injured reserve list or he'll be sidelined the rest of the season. He said he needs to make it through consecutive practices and acknowledged the risks of playing and the potential of reinjuring the Achilles tendon. “I don’t feel like I’m competing against science when it comes to this rehab,” Rodgers said. Over the next few weeks, Rodgers said he needs to be able to move better in the pocket during practice. He already reached out to Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips, who tore an Achilles tendon against the Jets last week.

But rather than win hearts and minds, Shein and the creators have been roundly blasted in the past week by social media users who have viewed the videos incredulously. The creators have been deleting negative comments on their social media accounts and posting defensive videos. And the trip has become a cautionary tale for marketers, as Shein’s efforts to help its reputation using influencers managed to alienate consumers and draw even more attention to allegations of unsavory business practices. Shein — pronounced SHE-in — an online retailer founded in China more than a decade ago, has quickly gained popularity among U.S. consumers, particularly teenagers and 20-somethings, for its easy-to-use app and low prices on a wide assortment of trendy apparel and accessories. Shein has said it conducts its business “lawfully.”

A particular view of 'work'This concept of fake work is rooted, at least partly, in political disagreement. "I think it's a false narrative to say many people do fake work, especially when companies already deploy workplace monitoring tools."

[1/5] Licypriya Kangujam, 11, environmentalist and climate activist, founder of The Child Movement, speaks to Reuters during an interview at the COP27 climate summit in Red Sea resort at Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, November 15, 2022. Among the throngs of men and women in business attire at the COP27 United Nations climate summit in Egypt this week are children who have traveled from around the world to demand adult leaders take action to protect their futures. They may be small, but their voices have been some of the loudest in the climate action movement. Her involvement follows prominent youth activist Greta Thunberg, now 19, who led school strikes in Sweden to demand action. Organisers of the summit say children have been given greater importance, with a designated youth envoy and a pavilion for children and youth at the conference.
Elemy, a $1.15 billion startup, promised families and healthcare providers quick access to autism care for kids. The current and former Elemy employees who spoke to Insider for this story requested anonymity because they feared retaliation from the company. ABA therapy, while somewhat controversial, is the most widely used treatment to teach kids with autism new skills and discourage challenging behaviors. At the direction of leadership, Elemy employees on the business-development team told those organizations to send their kids with autism, according to four former employees directly involved in forming referral relationships. Each ABA company performs its own expensive, time-consuming behavior assessments, and some insurers pay for only one assessment every six months, he said.
CNN —Ever the pioneer, Lizzo crossed off another first during the Washington, DC stop of her tour – playing an approximately 200-year-old crystal flute that belonged to a former US president. The Library of Congress has maintained the flute in its vault for decades before allowing Lizzo to play it onstage. “B,***h, I just twerked and played James Madison’s crystal flute from the 1800s,” she said incredulously. Lizzo visited the Library of Congress to see and play James Madison's 200-year-old crystal flute. He later donated the crystal flute, along with 1,700 instruments, to the Library in 1941, where the flute has remained until its stage debut with Lizzo.
The trial between Twitter and Elon Musk will begin on October 17 at the Delaware Chancery Court. The Delaware judge hearing Twitter's case vs. Elon Musk listened incredulously as Musk's lawyers asked her to postpone the trial. The DecoPac deal, like many acquisitions, had a clause called "specific performance," which allows the courts to force the deal to close. And Twitter then sued Musk for specific performance in Delaware Chancery Court later that month.

"I cannot tell you that at this moment," the post office worker replied, gesturing tiredly at a handwritten sign noting the facility didn't have stamps, or money orders. As for the Park West Post Office? After about two weeks of scarcity, it has sheets of tiger, elephant, hearts, tulips and mariachi band commemorative stamps.
