Some users have been re-verified on X for being a "notable" account and given a blue check. During this time, the blue check has come to mean something very specific: someone who actually pays for X. (OK, I'm sure that not ALL people who were paying for a blue check fall into those categories. AdvertisementThere hasn't been an official explanation of why a bunch of formerly verified people just got a free blue check. I think the only reasonable answer here is to hide the blue check and enjoy the free features.

Mr. Hill was the “consummate waterfront junk shop-souvenir store, occasionally aspiring to an antique shop,” Mr. Neill said. Mr. Hill opened Captain Hook’s with the Revolution’s Bicentennial in 1976 and remained until the turn of the century, setting up shop “when there was nothing there,” his wife, Trudy Hill, recalled. His other son, Jason, said: “How crazy was it that somebody who flipped items was able to make it to Sands Point? A person who went to garage sales?”At one point Mr. Hill charged 25 cents merely for the privilege of viewing his vast collection of nautical trinkets. But most customers would leave only a little poorer, having been talked into, say, a rubber snake by the persistent Mr. Hill, part huckster and part sincere enthusiast — a “good merchandizer,” Mr. Neill said.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is set to break records, with some estimating it could gross $1.4 billion. Swift is set to take home hundreds of millions of dollars — and "mini-residencies" will help. There's no arguing that, when it comes to her Eras tour, Taylor Swift is polishing up real nice. This will likely be an immensely profitable tour for Swift no matter what, but thanks to one key business move, she's set to make even more. "The totality of Taylor Swifts' U.S. tour could generate $4.6 billion in total consumer spending, larger than the GDP of 35 countries," the Common Sense Institute estimated.

Prosecutors say that a convicted Ponzi schemer that Trump got out of prison defrauded people again. Trump's commutation of Weinstein's sentence was one of his final acts as president. Federal prosecutors said on Wednesday that shortly after Trump helped him get released, Weinstein concocted another scheme. Trump's commutation of Weinstein's sentence led to his release after serving less than eight years of a 24-year sentence. Prosecutors allege it did not take Weinstein very long to get back to defrauding investors.

Over the past few years, Tubi has quietly amassed a thriving collection of Black-led independent movies. “Cinnamon” is the first Tubi premiere under the banner Black Noir Cinema, an initiative led by Village Roadshow Pictures. It’s a nifty standard-bearer: a gas station attendant and aspiring singer, Jodi (Hailey Kilgore), and a pickpocket, Eddie (David Iacono), team up for an inside job. The robbery becomes a self-own when someone from a local crime family — led by Pam Grier — gets killed in the process. They lean hard on the gas station owner, Wally (Damon Wayans), and then zero in on Jodi and Eddie.

My obsession is summed up pretty well by a tweet from @blagojevism: "George Santos is essentially a 19th-century character. Media depicting these characters found inspiration from real life: in a time before digital records and facial recognition, opportunity was everywhere. George Santos's brand of full-throated scammery is particularly American, something that belongs to this country as much as Abraham Lincoln and apple pie. The phrase "and if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you" comes from his legendary real-life method. But Santos, so far, has avoided jail time, giving him at least one leg up over the Yellow Kid.
Nick Bollettieri, the Hall of Fame tennis coach who worked with some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Andre Agassi and Monica Seles, and founded an academy that revolutionized the development of young athletes, has died. But it takes crazy people to do things that other people say cannot be done.”The Bollettieri Tennis Academy opened in 1978 in Bradenton, Florida, and was purchased by IMG in 1987. The IMG Academy now spans more than 600 acres and offers programs in more than a half-dozen sports in addition to tennis. For spending money, Bollettieri began teaching tennis for $1.50 an hour, according to the Hall of Fame. After a few months, he dropped out of law school to concentrate on coaching.
