Putin’s two-day state visit comes as Western leaders have leant on Xi to ensure that soaring exports from his country aren’t propping up the Russian war effort – a claim Beijing denies. Putin also traveled to Beijing with top security officials who the Russian president said Thursday would join informal talks on Ukraine. Beijing, which says it is neutral on the war, has repeatedly defended its trade with Russia as part of normal bilateral relations. Xi, analysts say, is seeking to keep Putin as a close partner, while not stepping over Western red lines. For that reason, she added, “he’s okay with on-going dependency between Russia and China – and with inequality in this relationship.”

Relations between President Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel appear to have sunk to a new low, with both men pressed hard by domestic politics and looming elections. Mr. Netanyahu, however, allowed his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, to remain in Washington for talks. In a recent interview, Mr. Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, accused Mr. Biden of tacitly supporting Israel’s enemies. Mr. Biden called it “a good speech” without endorsing the call for new elections. But Mr. Biden is far more popular in Israel than Mr. Obama was and a serious break with Washington would deeply undermine Israel’s security and its future.

Biden made it clear he respected the role of a free press in a democracy and did not berate reporters in White House press conferences, nor did his administration suspend journalists’ credentials, as his predecessor’s did. But as the press has focused recently on Biden's age and memory, the president and his campaign team have become more confrontational. When Doocey asked how "bad" Biden's memory was, the president said, "My memory is so bad I let you speak." Kristi Noem on the air, "seconds after trying to criticize President Biden’s memory." Tesla said in a regulatory filing it has received requests for information "including subpoenas, from the DOJ. These have included requests for documents related to Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD features" and other requests "associated with personal benefits, related parties, vehicle range and personnel decisions." The price of the popular Model Y SUV was "almost unchanged" for consumers even after Tesla's price cuts, Musk said, accounting for higher financing costs. That can mean setting boundaries with your partner about your needs when it comes to personal space, or preserving your relationship with a parent you are close with by setting boundaries on what you expect around your children. Meade is executive director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which works to restore voting rights in the state to former felons. Amendment 4 automatically restored voting rights to former felons, except those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who have completed their sentences. Initially, organizers projected that Amendment 4 would restore voting rights to about 1.4 million Floridians, but as a result of these new hurdles only a little over 600,000 have actually regained their voting rights, Meade said. Even after Amendment 4, felons are required to have completed their sentence before recovering their voting rights in Florida, as in virtually all other states. Intervening to restore those rights to Trump, if he’s convicted of a felony before the election, would represent a stark departure from the clemency board’s typical procedures.

The United States is hoping for an upgrade in the relations this year, ideally to coincide with the 10th anniversary in July of its comprehensive partnership with Vietnam. The United States is a major investor in Vietnam and the largest ever U.S. business mission visited the country this week. Though it is Vietnam's biggest export market, it is currently ranked as a third-tier diplomatic partner for Hanoi. A formal ties upgrade this year "is not considered realistic anymore," said Florian Feyerabend, the representative in Vietnam for Germany's Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Le Hong Hiep, a Senior Fellow at Singapore's ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute, said there was no doubt Vietnam wants to upgrade ties with Washington, but it was unlikely to agree to that this year.
Morning Bid: Leaning back to Fed hike, UK inflation jolt
  + stars: | 2023-03-22 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +5 min
Two weeks of U.S. and European banking stress and failures leaves the Federal Reserve and other major central banks in the unenviable position of choosing between stabilising financial systems and fighting still historically high inflation. On top of that, the latest quarterly economic projections from Fed policymakers may reveal a big dispersion of views. Beyond the Fed, the dire UK inflation reading seems to have solidified expectations of another BoE rate rise on Thursday and a further move later in the year. If nothing else, it underlines in red ink just how all central banks are totally dependent now on incoming data evidence on what's happening in the real economy. With the U.S. dollar lower across the board ahead of the Fed meeting, sterling hit its highest level since early February.

RIYADH, March 15 (Reuters) - The chair of Saudi National Bank (SNB) (1180.SE), the kingdom's biggest lender, which last year acquired a stake of almost 10% in Credit Suisse (CSGN.S), said on Wednesday the bank was not considering any specific international opportunities. SNB Chair Ammar Al Khudairy said the bank is instead focused on growing its business in Saudi Arabia. "As of today we are not looking at specific opportunities," Al Khudairy told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the Financial Sector Conference in the Saudi capital. "If anything, in the last 12 months, the Saudi market is one of the most exciting markets. Al Khudairy said the bank wants to increase its retail coverage in Saudi Arabia and deploy capital across the country in both the private sector and the government-led gigaprojects underway.
