It was a $75 velvet mini skater dress from Little Lies, a small business in Scotland. The green dress Swift wore. When Swift wore the Little Lies dress, the business hit its month's sales target in a day. Meanwhile, Robertson is waiting for perhaps another Swift boom: The night Swift wore the Little Lies dress, she ordered a "whole bunch of other stuff," Robertson said. Have you bought something Taylor Swift wore or experienced the Swift bump at your business?

I started thinking about my own experience with addiction when Matthew Perry passed away. It’s a sense that you don’t really fit in, that everyone else sort of has it wired of how to get along in the world and you don’t. And I think it revs you up past that sense of isolation, past that sense of loneliness. Obviously, it doesn’t work like that because I don’t think anything really penetrates that. He went through a really rough addiction and we don’t know yet the cause of his death, but we know that he really ravaged his body.

Today, the biggest challenge for Buterin and the ethereum community is making sure that it provides actual value to people. Buterin was named the world's youngest crypto billionaire at age 27 as the crypto market swelled to its peak in 2021. Last winter, the 37-year-old literary critic and Wesleyan professor Merve Emre stood in front of a microphone in Rachel Comey's Soho boutique. While the others had largely opted to pull boldfaced names from the Review's archives — like a 1985 Gore Vidal piece about Tennessee Williams — Merve Emre would be reading Merve Emre. Emre has penned so many introductions for new anthologies and reissues that one fan joked on Twitter: "every new baby in 2024 comes with an introduction by merve emre." Courtesy of Merve Emre. Over her cocktail, Merve Emre told me what my profile on Merve Emre should be about.

Even in a year with a huge tech stock rally, Columbia Global Technology Growth Fund (CTYRX) stands out for its outsized gains. The final bucket in the portfolio is value opportunity names, or stocks that Narang and his team believe have valuations cheaper than the entire portfolio. He cited data from Alliance Bernstein showing that tech stocks in the most expensive and least expensive quintiles tend to outperform historically — suggesting the attraction of a balanced approach. "Returns seesaw between growth and value over various periods of time," he added, noting this year's growth-oriented tech rally after last year's drubbing. Global mandate Over the last 11 years managing the fund, Narang called its "global mandate" both the biggest challenge and opportunity for him.

Tech layoffs are fuelling an influx of new founder talent. Delivery Hero scaled down its ghost kitchen project and, despite being offered another role internally, Pankow exited in December 2022. As the cofounder of cybersecurity startup Simplyblock, he is part of a new wave of founders born of tech layoffs. In 2022, programme applications from founders working at tech companies that have made layoffs increased by 111% to 1,273. "As the world's strongest talent, capital and political will gravitates towards this issue, we are seeing founders building technology designed to leave a real impact," Klink added.

The 2022 boom in I-Bonds appears set to end as interest rates tied to the security plunge. I-Bonds are expected to pay an interest rate of just 3.8% next month as inflation cools down. I-Bonds will be less appealing to investors due to its long lock-up period and higher interest rates at money market funds. Interest rates for I-Bonds are estimated to fall to 3.8% in May as inflation continues to ease. The Treasury bond resets its interest rate every six months based in part on the latest inflation data.

It sounds morbid but the exercise is designed to call attention to “missing white women syndrome,” the tendency of news organizations to pay relatively little attention to missing people who don’t fit that category. According to the calculator, the disappearance of a 22-year-old white woman in New York would generate 67 stories. And a missing 25-year-old Black woman from New York would get eight. More than 92% of Americans would have heard about a 22-year-old missing white woman from Nevada, the tool says. There was no comparable data from when “missing white person syndrome” was first talked about two decades ago.
