That opportunistic vocalist was named Otis Redding, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday. Jimmy Jam, a music producer and the master of ceremonies for the unveiling of the star, lauded Redding as legendary. Santiago started off by thanking Zelma Redding, Otis Redding's wife, who attended the ceremony. "They're trying to keep her away," Steve Shurtleff, a former Democratic speaker of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, said of the Harris campaign. Harris’ campaign has acted as if she’s sitting on a lead, even though she has failed to separate from her opponent, former President Donald Trump, others said. That may look different in today’s evolving media environment than prior campaigns, but coupled with campaign events, aggressive organizing and a historic paid media campaign, it’s a winning approach." “They are very cautious,” a person involved in Harris’ race said of her campaign. He says that quiet vacationing made him more productive at work because he was so happy. Over the course of 15 months, I spent a total of 10 weeks quiet vacationing from my fully remote job. I think quiet vacationing may be good for productivity; I was genuinely so happy while traveling the world, and it translated into my productivity at work. On some quiet vacationing days, I had to work a little later to get things across the line, but I became very efficient. A quiet vacation day in Europe might look something like this: Wake up around 8 or 9 a.m. and eat breakfast at the hotel.

Between 1979 and 2024, productivity in the U.S. soared by 80.9%, while hourly pay grew by just 29.4%, according to research by the Economic Policy Institute. But more recently, some economists have suggested that deliberate policy decisions have actively suppressed workers' wage growth. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the natural rate of unemployment has hovered between 4.5% and 5.5% throughout history. But since 1979, the U.S. has spent far more time with actual unemployment well above that estimated natural rate. Watch the video above to find out how middle-class wages are being suppressed.

CNN —Pete Alonso hammered a historic, go-ahead, three-run home run in the ninth inning to power the New York Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in their winner-take-all Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series. With free agency looming, it could have been the final act of his Mets career – but the possible last dance continues. Benny Sieu/USA Today Sports/ReutersAfter the Mets came from behind to win 8-4 in Game 1, the Brewers leveled the series with a 5-3 victory Wednesday. The stunning victory over the Brewers marks the first time that the team has advanced in the postseason since 2015. “There was no way this season was going to end without something happening in that ninth inning,” he added.

During a virtual roundtable, we asked Business Insider's Workforce Innovation board to tell us how AI would transform companies over the next year. How will the most innovative companies be transformed by AI over the next 12 months? Last year, we had an AI challenge across the company, and a huge percentage of our employees participated. There are a lot of different points of view on what AI will and will not do and how quickly. And that the promise we think AI is going to deliver will probably take longer than we think to come to fruition.

The Houston Astros will not appear in the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2016 after being eliminated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Not including the pandemic-shortened 2020 year, that’s the fewest number of wins the Astros have had since missing the postseason entirely in 2016. From 2017-23, not only did Houston appear in the ALCS every year, it made the World Series four times, winning twice and losing twice. The Astros’ run of championship league series appearances came under the specter of one of Major League Baseball’s most notorious scandals. The Astros were revealed to be using the sign-stealing system from as early as 2016 into the 2018 season — which encompassed their 2017 World Series win.

Jean Kang, 32, brings in about $20,000 a month with her business. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, she had always envisioned herself working for a big tech company. Having witnessed the rise of Silicon Valley from her own backyard, she worked hard to land her first tech job. "I was very shocked that I could supplement my take home pay from my tech job, [adding] another $30,000 completely by myself," said Kang. She has also scaled her business by shifting from doing mostly one-on-one coaching to running 5-week group programs.

Much of the office market may be mired in a downturn, but demand has been strong for high-end space. New office construction has dropped off sharply, leading to a potential upcoming shortage. That demand has persisted even as office construction has been stifled by higher interest rates and inflation, which have pushed up costs. Worries over the health of the office market have also made lenders reluctant to finance new development. 8 million square feet of that is pre-leased, meaning that there is only about 10 million square feet of upcoming available top quality space.

OpenAI's chief product officer isn't worried that the rise of open-source will cause the second. In the first vision, AI startups are in a winner-takes-all race. AdvertisementOn Wednesday, OpenAI chief product officer Kevin Weil took to the stage, where Anyscale cofounder Robert Nishihara asked him what open-source models mean for OpenAI's business. These AI models, such as Meta's Llama offerings, are freely available for almost anyone to use, while OpenAI sells access to propriety, closed models. But if downloadable, open-source models pull all prices down to the "cost of production," then Andreessen's first vision — of "infinite profits" — starts to appear a little less likely.

There are two competing visions for the future of the AI business, according to Marc Andreessen. Instead, it's one of the most fundamental (and arguably surreal) questions facing the AI industry today, according to legendary investor Marc Andreessen.
