Total revenue in its fiscal 2024 fourth quarter totaled $79.7 billion, missing analysts' expectations of $79.97 billion, according to estimates compiled by LSEG. Costco has succeeded for decades, but the high inflation of recent years has made the company's value-focused ethos really shine. Put it all together, we're increasing our price target on the stock to $950 a share from $875. In the quarter, Costco's membership renewal rate in the U.S. and Canada came in at 92.9%, a tick lower than the 93% rate observed in the third fiscal quarter, while worldwide held constant at 90.5%.

Notably, DuPont's Water Solutions and Tyvek medical packaging businesses in China — an economy that's lately been a thorn in the side of so many companies — helped drive the quarter-over-quarter expansion. While there's been speculation that DuPont's water business is attracting interest from peers, management said the company has not had conversations about an outright sale. The range for operating EBITDA was raised to $3.06 billion to $3.11 billion, up from $2.9 billion to $3.05 billion previously. DuPont's third-quarter guidance of roughly $3.2 billion in sales, $815 million in operating EBITDA and adjusted EPS of $1.03 essentially matched expectations.

Nvidia remains the dominant player in AI chips, but AMD is continuing to carve out a lane in the rapidly expanding market. Among the highlights, Su said Microsoft has expanded its use of the AI chips for certain software applications, including messaging app Teams. AMD's data center business is now nearly 50% of companywide revenues, up from 37% in the fourth quarter of 2023. Within data center, sales of both AI chips and traditional server chips will grow in the third quarter, Su said.

Nevertheless, P & G still fills an important role in a diversified portfolio, and its business is on solid footing. That includes North America, where organic sales grew 4%, and Europe, where organic sales increased 2% despite a difficult 12% comparison in the year-ago period. That helps explain how you get organic sales in China down 9%, albeit a slight sequential improvement from the 10% drop in the third quarter. It saw a mid-single digit decrease in organic sales because of market-share losses for its Luvs diapers.

"More and more people will realize that this [Global Access Solutions] was a good acquisition," Jim Cramer said Monday. To revive its lagging stock, management must also figure out which businesses are better on their own — kind of like the split announced last month by fellow Club stock DuPont . Honeywell stock has dropped 4.6% year-to-date. Smaller units have struggled like Building Automation, where management hopes to get a lift from Global Access Solutions. ☆ Costco shares dip despite earnings beat. There's no cause for investor concern

On an annual basis, Costco's EPS grew 29%. After closing at a record $815.34 per share Thursday, Costco's stock declined about 1.5% in extended trading. Core merchandise was flat on a reported basis, but a two-basis-point improvement when excluding the impact of gasoline. Costco's reporting segment for so-called "other" items saw a 57-basis-point benefit on a reported basis and a 56-basis-point benefit ex-gas. Costco's inflation update remained encouraging.
