Bizarrely, the fake article’s text appears to trace its origins to a graphic designer named Enes Şimşek who lives near Istanbul. CNN discovered the video template on Video Hive, a motion graphics template store. According to an email he shared with CNN, Şimşek sent a letter to Support@truthsocial.com with the email subject line: “From the ‘REICH’ video template Author.”“Hi. I am the initial author of that ‘REICH’ video template. Şimşek was again floored when he saw the video of Biden responding to the Trump video.

Opinion | The Limits of Moralism in Israel and Gaza

Foreign policy can make a mockery of moral certitude. It’s why the “good war” of World War II involved a partnership with a monster in Moscow and the subjection of half of Europe to totalitarian oppression. But in active controversies the tragic vision can seem like a cold way of looking at the world. A “realist” foreign policy can slide from describing power to excusing depredations. It can underestimate the power of a righteous cause — as I underestimated, for instance, Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself in 2022.

CNN —On Monday, jury selection for the first-ever criminal trial of a former US president begins in Manhattan. The process may take longer than the usual jury selection and the pool of persons questioned will be larger. There is something to be said for Trump’s claim that he faces an uphill battle in jury selection. True, another New York jury found Trump liable of defaming and sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll in 2023 and again this year. There is a famous quip of unknown origin that goes: “In England, the trial starts when jury selection is over.

I am watching the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza today and thinking about one of the world leaders I’ve most admired: Manmohan Singh. The cost of occupying Gaza could overstretch the Israeli military and economy for years to come. Israel should keep the door open for a humanitarian cease-fire and prisoner exchange that will also allow Israel to pause and reflect on exactly where it is going with its rushed Gaza military operation — and the price it could pay over the long haul. Israel built an impressive society and economy, even if flawed, and Hamas took nearly all of its resources and built attack tunnels. A GOP lawmaker said he was "disgusted" by US college responses to Hamas' attacks on Israel. AdvertisementAdvertisementA top Republican lawmaker overseeing US federal taxes has attacked the tax-exempt status of universities failing to condemn Hamas' "barbaric acts of terrorism committed against the Jewish people," according to a statement. Smith added that after Hamas' "horrific attack" on Israel on October 7, some universities, which had previously condemned speech they disapproved of, had failed to condemn Hamas attacks and student statements of support for Hamas. In the 12 days since the Palestinian militant group Hamas' terror attacks on Israel, elite US universities have been criticized for their response, or lack of response, to Hamas' attacks and student statements holding Israel responsible for Hamas' offensive. More than thirty Harvard student organizations issued a joint statement on October 10, in which they held Israel "entirely" responsible for Hamas' attacks.

Yonatan Manor, president of Boston University Students for Israel, said failure to denounce Hamas was akin to supporting Nazis. Younger Americans are much less likely than older generations to support Israel. Support for Israel has grown among all Americans since 2014, when clashes between Israel and Hamas led to thousands of deaths, the vast majority Palestinians. One member, a Middle Eastern Jewish student at Barnard College who requested anonymity for safety concerns, said the organization's ethos underscores the conflict's complexity. Raffi Ivker, a Jewish student at George Washington University, said he believed neither side "has clean hands."

Meade is executive director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which works to restore voting rights in the state to former felons. Amendment 4 automatically restored voting rights to former felons, except those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who have completed their sentences. Initially, organizers projected that Amendment 4 would restore voting rights to about 1.4 million Floridians, but as a result of these new hurdles only a little over 600,000 have actually regained their voting rights, Meade said. Even after Amendment 4, felons are required to have completed their sentence before recovering their voting rights in Florida, as in virtually all other states. Intervening to restore those rights to Trump, if he’s convicted of a felony before the election, would represent a stark departure from the clemency board’s typical procedures.

Guns are displayed in the Drugs Museum, used by the military to showcase to soldiers the lifestyles of Mexican drug lords, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Mexico City, October 14, 2016. "The judge assigned to the case, Cindy Jorgenson, issued an order canceling the hearing in which she only stated that she is considering excusing herself from hearing the present litigation," the ministry said. The judge and U.S. court officials were not immediately available for comment. Seven in 10 crime guns recovered and traced in Mexico come from the United States, according to U.S. gun control agency ATF. CNN —Spanish soccer chief Luis Rubiales has refused to resign from his position as Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president following a week of fierce criticism after video showed him placing an unwanted kiss on a star player of Spain’s winning Women’s World Cup team. “It was a spontaneous kiss … It was spontaneous, mutual, euphoric and with consent, which is the key. This is the key to all of the criticism, of all of the campaign which has been mounted in this country: that it was without consent. While acknowledging he needed to apologize for his actions, Rubiales described calls for his resignation as a “witch hunt.”More to follow.

CNN —Some news organizations are beating around the bush when covering prominent figures who hold detestable views, many of which are wholly unhinged from reality. That has been on display over the last 24 hours on three different fronts: In stories about Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “This type of normal language news organizations use doesn’t communicate how unhinged some of this stuff is,” media columnist Margaret Sullivan told me Tuesday. But the duty of a journalist and news organizations is to tell the story, without fear or favor. It gives those figures who profit financially and/or politically from extremist rhetoric license to continue trafficking in the destructive noise.

Yet some former Bang Bang employees said that McCurdy's meticulously curated image as a thoughtful progressive in a rough-and-tumble industry wasn't much more than good PR. At Bang Bang, "they just woke-wash everything," one former employee said. This kind of behavior extended to other Bang Bang employees. Ganser, the Bang Bang manager, also sent Wang a text comparing her behavior to her father's, who was in prison. At the time, four years after the handover from Britain to China, much of Hong Kong remained a world of neon and noise. In February 2006, Alex Ma, China's mole in the FBI, sent David photos he received from his handlers of five suspected human sources. A former CVS Health nurse practitioner is suing the pharmacy chain for firing her after she refused to prescribe birth control, citing her religious beliefs. Texas resident J. Robyn Strader said in the suit that her Baptist Christian faith prevents her from prescribing contraceptive and abortion-inducing drugs. She said that for six and a half years, CVS granted her a religious accommodation to forego having to prescribe the drugs at the CVS MinuteClinic where she worked. When a customer needed the prescription, she would refer them to a colleague or another CVS MinuteClinic. CVS is facing at least two other lawsuits in federal court brought by former nurse practitioners in Kansas and Virginia who say they were fired over the policy.
It’s a grimmer chapter of an ongoing story, and one that is plagued by an inability to articulate why these white men murdering their way across the landscape are heroes worth rooting for. Cultural critics love prestige series. Few celebrated the end of the toxically misogynist “The Big Bang Theory,” or have seemed eager to discuss the resurgence of seemingly endless police procedurals starring white men. But the series has gained viewership year over year, with subsequent spinoffs debuting on new flagship streaming service, Paramount+. Like so many white male grievances, to question the logic is to side with the enemy.
Opinion | What Too Little Forgiveness Does to Us
  + stars: | 2022-12-03 | by ( Timothy Keller | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
I discovered that those who learned and embraced forgiveness usually survived and those who did not never did. Without forgiveness, you are more subject to heart disease and heart attacks, strokes and depression. First, there must be the recognition that forgiveness does not contradict the pursuit of justice. If you don’t forgive internally, you won’t confront the wrongdoers for justice’s sake or for future victims’ sake or for God’s sake. Once forgiveness is granted, it clears the way for justice, possible reconciliation and other forms of restoration.
LOS ANGELES — The jury weighing the rape charges against “That ‘70s Show” star Danny Masterson announced Wednesday it was hopelessly deadlocked and a mistrial was declared. Masterson has also denied assaulting a fourth woman, identified as Jane Doe #4, who told the court she too had been raped by him. While the judge allowed testimony by Jane Doe #4, Masterson was not criminally charged with raping her. The panel, on Nov. 18, sent Olmedo a note saying they had been “unable to reach a unanimous decision” on any of the three forcible rape counts against Masterson. “You have been deliberating for an insufficient amount of time,” Olmedo said before excusing them for the holiday break.
LOS ANGELES — The jury weighing the rape charges against “That '70s Show” star Danny Masterson announced Friday it was deadlocked. Los Angeles County Superior Court Charlaine F. Olmedo told the panel to come back on Nov. 28 and try again. It was an unexpected twist in the closely-watched trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court. He has also denied assaulting a fourth woman, identified as Jane Doe #4, who told the court she too had been raped by Masterson. WASHINGTON — Federal prosecutors rested their case against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and four other members of the far-right organization on Wednesday without calling three cooperating defendants who pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy. But the government did not call for three members of the group who pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy — Joshua James, Brian Ulrich and William Todd Wilson — before resting their case. Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, speaks during a rally outside the White House in Washington on Jun. Susan Walsh / AP fileProsecutors may have decided that presenting any of the three defendants who pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy would be too much of a risk on cross examination. Prosecutors also can't explicitly argue that because a witness pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy that the defendants are guilty of the same charge, which limits the value of their testimony.
Three people who dislike Trump made it onto a jury deciding a criminal case involving his company. In fact, well over half of some 60 people polled as potential jurors this week said they had negative views of the former president. Potential jurors raise their hands during the jury seating process of the Trump Organization criminal tax-fraud trial on October 24, 2022. That's because juries are formed by slowly weeding out potential jurors that either side doesn't want on the jury, and the jury is formed with whoever is left. "You pick the right jury, you're going to win.
