On the other hand, data centers have created roughly "less than one" full time job per megawatt of energy consumed, the filing said. AEP Ohio's new service queue has been paused since March while the company assesses its response to the 30,000 megawatts of requests from data centers. "We believe some of that queue is speculative, but we want the real customers and counterparties to commit to Ohio," Reitter said. For years now, policymakers have sought an explanation for the mental health crisis among young people. The social psychologist Jonathan Haidt points to smartphones, and the algorithms that draw kids away from healthy play and into dangerous, addictive thought loops. The real problem is a grim social landscape of school shootings, poverty and global warming. A group of researchers in Britain now propose another, at least partial, explanation: We talk about mental disorders so much. This hypothesis is called “prevalence inflation.” It holds that our society has become so saturated with discussion of mental health that young people may interpret mild, transient suffering as symptoms of a medical disorder.

Wall Street reacted Thursday to this week's Fed meeting, with forecasts scattered across a range of outcomes for where monetary policy heads next. Most economists for the biggest forecasting firms expect the central bank to lower benchmark interest rates sometime later this year. Goldman left in place its call for two rate cuts this year of a quarter percentage point each, with one in July and the other in November. "If inflation comes in stronger than in our baseline, we would expect the first rate cut to be postponed to December," he wrote. For 2025, we continue to expect four rate cuts."
