Dalia Goldberg moved to Spain with her then-husband in late 2018. Related storiesIn early 2020, I'd just spent my first year and a half in Seville, Spain. My husband and I had moved to Spain thinking we'd travel around and enjoy a great quality of life while working remotely. Many members of the Improvites told me the activity has boosted their confidence and helped them make new friends. Will, another member from the UK, moved to Seville from northern Spain after his marriage also broke down.

Read previewA recent sleepover made me consider how different my childhood was compared to my children's. While my sleepovers were better than theirs, their experiences in other areas of their childhood seem much better. And while I'm happy they get to have those experiences, I'm also starting to get a little jealous. They don't have to spend hours at church like I didOf all the shared life experiences, church activity makes me the most envious. And it's nice to think that someday in the future, my oldest will be hesitant to let his kid mow the lawn, too.

This is what it must have felt like to be a guest showing up for a party at Jay Gatsby’s house, Mr. Wang thought. He hopped from one software engineering role to another, toiling on some projects that he felt were meaningless. At Google, he worked for 15 months on an initiative that higher-ups decided to keep pursuing even though they knew it would never launch. He then spent more than a year at Facebook on a product whose primary customer at one point described it to the engineers as unhelpful. During the pandemic, tens of thousands of people joined the subreddit page r/antiwork to share quips about rejecting drudge work and, in most cases, all work.

It was one line from an itinerary of an upcoming field trip to Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. And no place proved more prescient than those Capitol steps. Deep in my heart, I was certain that one day I’d be living in Columbia as a college student. Illustration Ian Berry/CNNThe cosmos and crimeThe afternoon stops solidified the revelation I felt on the State House steps. For me, it was a mere 60-mile, in-state field trip – culminating with a Boxed Lunch on the Capitol Steps – that proved to be my date with destiny.

Take activist hedge funds, which buy up a percentage of a company's stock (or an asset) and then use their weight to push for operational changes. Or there would be a fun, splashy war between the hedge fund and the C-suite. Hedge funds rely on outperforming the market when times are hard and it's easier to find pockets of outperformance and exploit them. Of course, hedge funds are having a hard time coming up with a crew because the clients have changed too. Gen Zers, it turns out, are "not on a linear journey to evaluate the veracity of anything." In other words, Gen Zers know the difference between rock-solid news and AI-generated memes. For Gen Z, checking what other people are saying in the comments isn't shallow. The aim is to reach Gen Z readers where they live — scrolling through the comments — and turn them into subscribers. But I'll confess that I worried about the idea that Gen Z checks the comments to decide what to believe.

He also expects more go-getters will feel pressed to do the same as AI bores deeper into the workplace. Of course, if people need to oversee AI bots at all hours, workers could take on babysitting duty at different times of the day. But as he sees how AI will change how humans work, "people are going to get more and more tired — and busier," Gill said. At law school, we learned about "proximate cause," one of the few valuable concepts you can take from three years of drudgery. But was that the proximate cause? No, the real proximate cause, the one that's really at fault, was the February unemployment report, which came out on March 8. At the time, many thought the proximate cause of Nvidia's pirouette was the performance of two chipmaker peers. Surely those two updates couldn't be the proximate cause of the peak of Nvidia, right?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate early Tuesday passed a $95.3 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, pushing ahead after months of difficult negotiations and amid growing political divisions in the Republican Party over the role of the United States abroad. But a bipartisan deal on border security struck by Republican Sen. James Lankford fell apart just days after its unveiling, a head-spinning development that left negotiators deeply frustrated. After the border bill collapsed, the two leaders abandoned the border provisions and pushed forward with passing the foreign aid package alone — as Democrats had originally intended. In an unusually raw back-and-forth, GOP senators who support the aid challenged some of the opponents directly on the floor. Turner posted on X, formerly Twitter, after the trip that “I reiterated America’s commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia.”But Speaker Johnson is in a tough position.

In a memorable montage from the 1999 workplace satire "Office Space," Peter Gibbons, a fed-up office drone, decides to take a stand. For years, the office cubicle was the four-walled avatar of corporate disaffection. Late '90s films like "Office Space," "Fight Club," and "The Matrix" enshrined its detested status. The tech boom arrived, bringing with it open office plans and a Silicon Valley-led gloss of egalitarianism, epitomized by Google's high-profile headquarters redesign in 2005. The top comment on the "Office Space" cubicle clip on YouTube captures the irony of this shift: "I would have killed for a cubicle," the commenter wrote.

AI Assistants Could Take the Drudgery out of Law

Photo: Getty Images/iStockphotoBruce Pandolfini and Max Raskin correctly point out that AI may overtake significant aspects of lawyers’ and artists’ jobs (“AI Won’t Stop People From Playing Games,” op-ed, Nov. 2). But AI will likely make better lawyers, better artists and better humans. As a lawyer, I see AI overtaking some of the drudgery of the legal profession, liberating me to do more creative and client-focused tasks. For artists, AI could act as an assistant in a master’s workshop, similar to how Raphael relied on secondary artists in his workshop. I hope that AI will help us spark new ideas, collaborations and conversations offline.

More than two out of three employees (67%) spend less than 30 minutes reviewing benefits options during open enrollment season, while almost half spend less than 20 minutes, a new Voya Financial survey shows. To get enrollment over with quickly, more than 90% of employees click the same options as last year, a new report by insurer Aflac shows. Compound that figure from enrollment every November, and you can see how your options can create a solid financial future or a shaky one. "Open enrollment isn't just a formality. After all, things might have changed since the previous open enrollment.
