Some reporters were granted access to the courtroom through a lottery system. No cell phones or laptops were allowed in the courthouse, leaving us to rely on an old-school journalism approach of pay phones and notepads. Here I was, reporting what happened inside a room that only about 100 people would witness. Journalists with the closest access to the Trump arraignment were inside the courtroom, within feet of the former president. Court rules can vary some, but typically, when reporters receive access to federal court they're allowed to bring along their cell phones and laptops.

A circuslike atmosphere spread across the grounds of the federal courthouse where former President Donald J. Trump was set to appear on Tuesday, with hundreds of reporters in downtown Miami alongside those who wanted to be seen and heard. The small but colorful crowd included dozens of Trump supporters and a handful of critics, many dressed eccentrically to get their messages across on camera. There was the Uncle Sam who sped around the courthouse grounds on a two-wheeled hoverboard singing pro-Trump songs, the woman with a unicorn horn affixed to her forehead who wore an “Aunt-ifa” shirt and chanted derisively about the former president, and the man in a black-and-white jail jumpsuit carrying a sign that read, “Lock Him Up.”Adding to the buzz of the sunbaked scene — temperatures had reached 88 degrees by lunchtime — were trucks with flags and loudspeakers, and several people on foot with selfie sticks who broadcast live video streams to thousands of viewers while weaving in and out of the crowds.

A federal bankruptcy judge approved the termination of the contract between Miami-Dade County and FTX that gave the cryptocurrency exchange naming rights for the home of the Miami Heat. Judge John Dorsey on Wednesday approved Miami-Dade and FTX’s request to end the deal. Bankman-Fried could face a host of potential charges – civil and criminal – as well as private lawsuits from millions of FTX creditors, legal experts told CNBC. There are three different, possibly simultaneous legal threats that Bankman-Fried faces in the United States alone, Levin told CNBC. He told CNBC, "prosecutors would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Bankman-Fried or his associates committed criminal fraud." (Carter was not an FTX investor, and told CNBC that his fund passed on early FTX rounds.) "People should not jump to the conclusion that something is not happening just because it has not been publicly disclosed," Levin told CNBC.

CNN —The NBA’s Miami Heat and Miami-Dade County have terminated their relationship with bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX and will search for a new naming rights partner for their arena in downtown Miami. Miami-Dade County and Miami Heat said in a joint statement Friday night that the reports about FTX are “extremely disappointing” and that they will work together to find a new naming rights partner for the arena, which was only renamed as FTX Arena last year. FTX had reportedly inked a reported $135 million, 19-year deal to rename the Miami arena in June 2021. Also, Major League Baseball struck a five-year deal in 2021 to name FTX as its official cryptocurrency exchange. FTX is also the official cryptocurrency exchange partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

Miami’s Waldorf Astoria residential tower, poised to be South Florida’s tallest skyscraper, is a test case for new techniques meant to enable the more than 1,000-foot tall building to withstand hurricane-force winds and remain stable near sea level. Developers broke ground on the building’s foundation in downtown Miami in October. The 100-story tower, which resembles a series of glass cubes stacked on top of each other, will feature 205 hotel guest rooms and 360 luxury condo residences. It would be the city’s first supertall structure, and the tallest residential building south of New York City when completed around 2027, according to the development team.
