The esteemed group: The Bills, Buccaneers, Chargers, Chiefs, Saints, Seahawks, Steelers, Texans and Vikings. Can Darnold continue his resurgence against a Texans defense that ranks third-stingiest in yards allowed and second in sacks through two games? Saints’ legitimacyIt seemed premature to get excited about the Saints’ 47-10 trouncing of the Panthers in Week 1, given Carolina’s issue. And is a Saints defense that has held opponents to just 14.5 points per game equally as legit? Can Dalton help stop the bleeding, or is this team as bad as it seems regardless of who starts at quarterback?

Along with the economy, young voters also name abortion, immigration, foreign policy, climate and gun control as other priorities. A recent GenForward survey conducted by the University of Chicago supports what dozens of young voters told CNN. Foreign policyAmerica’s position on the world stage is also top of mind for young voters. The Israel-Hamas war has proved to be a key sticking point for progressive and young voters, as well as Arab American and Muslim communities. Regardless of what issues are galvanizing young voters to head to the polls, many say they think their turnout in November will surprise some people.

You need the "purest ice in the world," harvested directly from the rapidly melting glaciers in Greenland. At least, that's what Arctic Ice, a startup based in Greenland, is hoping will catch on as it begins selling glacier ice to upscale cocktail bars in Dubai. "Our pure iceberg ice has little to no taste, ensuring it doesn't alter the flavor of beverages as it melts, unlike ice made from tap or mineral water," reads the Arctic Ice website. Representatives for Arctic Ice and Natural Ice did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. “I say to Speaker Johnson – I plead with him – don’t repeat the mistake of McCarthy and others and just follow the hard-right in a partisan way,” Schumer said at a weekly news conference. “It’s not good for the country, it’s not good for the House, it’s not even good for the Republican Party. “Speaker Johnson should learn from the examples of Speaker Boehner, of Speaker Ryan and of Speaker McCarthy,” Schumer said. Though he’s not an outspoken conservative flamethrower like Rep. Jim Jordan, who GOP centrists blocked from gaining the gavel, a Johnson speakership marks a dramatic shift to the right for the conference. And though he faces the same difficulties as former Speaker Kevin McCarthy did with a razor-thin Republican majority, how he fares with the faction of hard-liners that ultimately ousted McCarthy is another story.

Two candidates, GOP Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, have already launched campaigns. He’s not the first GOP speaker to think so. But in this political climate, any Republican speaker who has to rely on Democratic votes is critically weakened and probably can’t last long. But the only way a Republican speaker will be able to pass aide to Ukraine will be to do so with Democratic help. The lack of such flexibility has been a fatal flaw of GOP speakers for years.

The House narrowly voted to oust Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday, dooming the House speaker to a fate that seemed almost guaranteed since he took the gavel in January, with a group of rebels in his conference nipping at his heels. “The office of speaker of the House of the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant,” the clerk announced as the vote concluded. A temporary speaker – Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina – is expected to take over based upon a list of succession that McCarthy submitted in January, according to House rules . But in 2015, McCarthy’s speaker bid abruptly ended amid pushback from right-wing lawmakers who have long seen him as insufficiently conservative. I’m the 55th speaker of the House.”Without McCarthy at the helm, the House is expected to soon vote to elect another speaker.

A series of setbacks in the House on Tuesday pointed to the difficult reality for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the lower chamber, which appears deadlocked amid the latest revolt by House conservatives. Time is running out.”Lawmakers entered the week eager to see progress, after headway was stymied last week by House and Senate conservatives. I think we are well positioned to do that again.”Political Cartoons on Congress View All 237 ImagesBut by Tuesday afternoon, the continuing resolution vote had been scrapped. Indeed, some analysts have noted that for the House conservatives, perhaps armed with the understanding that their demands have little chance of becoming reality, the ultimate goal may be McCarthy’s removal after all. On the other side of the Capitol, where the House-proposed continuing resolution would have no prospects, senators began to express new levels of angst Tuesday, as the funding deadline nears.

CNN —Remarkable new charges against Donald Trump and two associates in the classified documents case Thursday significantly deepened the ex-president’s legal plight and dragged the 2024 election further into an unprecedented legal quagmire. “It’s a stunning development,” said former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who is now a CNN legal and national security analyst. Instead, moderate, natural warming led to large-scale melting and sea level rise of more than 1.4 meters (4.6 feet), according to the report published Thursday in the journal Science. This would have significant impacts on sea level rise. The potential implications for sea level rise are enormous, Tammy Rittenour, a professor from Utah State University and study co-author said in a statement. “We are looking at meters of sea level rise, probably tens of meters. “The current greenhouse gas emission-driven warming may reduce the Greenland ice sheet faster than forecast,” he told CNN.

Nevertheless, the ferocity of the backlash was striking, suggesting a brittle political denial about Israel’s increasingly authoritarian, jingoistic turn. “Israel is not a state of all its citizens,” Netanyahu wrote in 2019. Today, there are nearly equal numbers of Jews and Palestinian Arabs living in Israel and the occupied territories. But even Palestinian citizens of Israel face legal as well as social discrimination. Israel’s Palestinian citizens, for example, cannot obtain citizenship for spouses who are from the West Bank or Gaza, dooming thousands of couples to live separately.

Now, the man who had been tasked with reviving a nuclear deal to constrain that program has been sidelined. Progress on nuclear talks, as well as the fate of detained Americans in Iran, is likely to boost the incumbents in the polls, analysts have said. Malley was one of the architects of the 2015 nuclear deal reached with Iran under the Obama administration. The administration began negotiations to re-enter an Iran nuclear agreement later that year. “US policy is informed by the administration’s national security calculations, and not any one person in the national security apparatus,” Vaez said.

The first tranche of interviews being made available does not include those of the former president, first lady or other major recognizable figures from the Obama era. Instead, it is tightly focused on one issue that the researchers deemed vital to his presidency, a wonk’s feast of policy discussion rather than a broader look at Mr. Obama himself or his overall eight years in power. As he sucked down his favorite Fiji water, Mr. Obama would tease scientists and engineers. We don’t need to look at any more of those.”The focus on climate change in the first set of interviews also highlighted the larger trade-offs Mr. Obama made between competing priorities. Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin went ballistic on the Kremlin in an expletive-laden video on Thursday. He lashed out at Russia's defense minister and a top general, blaming them for a lack of ammo. He swore at least nine times in the video, though his press service censored the expletives. In 2022, the Wagner Group drew scandal for recruiting Russian convicts to fight in Ukraine, promising the prisoners their freedom. Russia's defense ministry press service did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
Meanwhile, Democrats — once wary of mentioning gun control at all — have finally rediscovered their voice. See heated gun control discussion between lawmakers in the halls of Congress 01:19 - Source: CNNDemocrats’ rising confidence in fighting for gun reform comes against a backdrop of tireless coalition-building from gun safety activists and community organizers across the country. Everytown credits at least 51 pieces of state-level gun safety legislation passed in 2022 to their state-by-state strategy. Over the summer, an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that 59% of American adults think it’s more important to control gun violence than to protect gun rights (35%) — “its highest point in nearly a decade.” These figures have surely factored into Democrats new assertiveness on gun control. “Republicans look completely unreasonable when they won’t even discuss background checks, gun safety measures like storage or red flag laws,” Del Percio warned.
[1/3] Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a rally at Florence Regional Airport in Florence, South Carolina, U.S., March 12, 2022. Trump said his post was "clearly about" and merely repeated his formal response to the first lawsuit, and was therefore covered by "absolute litigation privilege" under New York law, dooming the defamation claim. Carroll's lawsuit also includes a battery claim under New York's Adult Survivors Act, which lets sexual abuse victims sue their attackers even if statutes of limitations have run out. A Washington appeals court is deciding whether Trump should be immune from Carroll's first lawsuit, but not her second, because he was acting as president when he spoke. The case is Carroll v. Trump, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No.
FDA Commissioner Robert Califf says a high level of interaction between agency officials and drug companies helps cut down on applications for drugs that don’t work. U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert Califf defended his agency’s decision to approve the Alzheimer’s drug Aduhelm, after an investigation by House Democrats found close cooperation between the drug’s sponsor and regulators. Findings released late last year from the then-Democratic-led Oversight and Reform Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee faulted the FDA for holding an unusual number of meetings with Biogen Inc. while it weighed approval of Biogen’s Alzheimer’s treatment, Aduhelm, as well as for co-authoring with the company a briefing document presented to outside advisers. The FDA granted preliminary approval to Aduhelm in 2021, but Medicare officials refused to cover it routinely, dooming the company’s plans for profits.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy is fighting an uphill battle to become House speaker. Nineteen Republicans voted against McCarthy's bid for speaker. The vote also marks the first time in 100 years that the House failed to elect a speaker on an initial ballot. Lawmakers, however, cannot take their oaths of office until a House speaker is elected. Here are the 19 Republicans who voted against McCarthy:
But the decision means she'll avoid what likely would've been a bruising Democratic primary campaign. That means her decision may be as much about side-stepping what was expected to be a tough Senate primary campaign in 2024 as it is a principled stand against partisan politics. In a statement on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made clear that the party's functional 51-49 majority next year would remain. Unfortunately, Senator Sinema is once again putting her own interests ahead of getting things done for Arizonans." As Senate majority leader, Schumer has control of who serves on committees in the chamber.

The Federal Reserve started raising interest rates this March, making all forms of borrowing more expensive and hitting the brakes on economic growth. Experts see 2023 featuring even higher interest rates, still-elevated inflation, rising unemployment, and a tougher job market for workers. American companies are trimming their hiring plans amid soaring interest rates and fears of a near-term recession. The Fed's benchmark rate now sits between 3% and 3.25%, well above the threshold at which rates constrain, not boost, economic growth. Inflation is still running at a 8.2% year-over-year pace, leaving lawmakers incredibly wary of pumping more cash into the economy.
