I've been a college professor for 20 years, and I'm seeing more Gen X and Baby Boomer students. I no longer lecture to the class and instead let the older students take the lead. An increasing number of college students aren't kids anymore; they're older — many of whom are my generational peers. It's changed the way students learn and the way I teach. I quickly realized they learn differentlyI've noticed that older learners engage in ways that are different from traditional college students.

American chip giant Intel in December 2021 said it will invest more than $7 billion to build a chip packaging and testing factory in Malaysia, with production expected to begin in 2024. Malaysia holds 13% of the global market for chip packaging, assembly and testing services, said the Malaysian Investment Development Authority in a Feb. 18 report. Exports of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits increased by 0.03% to 387.45 billion Malaysian ringgit ($81.4 billion) in 2023, amid global chip demand weakness. Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said many Chinese firms diversified some of their production to Malaysia, calling the country China's "plus one." In the same month, the world's largest contract chip maker TSMC opened its first Japan factory as it diversifies away from Taiwan amid U.S.-China tensions.

She elaborated on her stock market and real estate investing strategies. While anyone can invest in the stock market starting with as little as $1 thanks to micro-investing platforms, owning real estate typically involves bigger upfront costs. "I could put down a 20% deposit, and then the bank will lend me 80% to buy this asset," she said. The cash flow you can generate from real estate is "far greater than what you'll get from most other investments," said Shah.

Paul You, chairman of First Securities Investment Corporation said last month that the global semiconductor industry including Taiwan's could be at risk from the U.S.-China chip war. Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Inc., the manufacturing company majority-owned by TSMC, began construction of the plant in April 2022. Japan has been striving to strengthen its semiconductor presence amid an intense rivalry with key chip making countries such as Taiwan and South Korea.

Just consider three core holdings in the portfolio: Apple , Starbucks , and Nvidia . Nvidia generates 21% of its overall revenue from Mainland China, while Apple gets 19%, and Starbucks 9%. Xiamen-based Luckin Coffee, for example, overtook Starbucks in market share in China during 2023, with double the retail locations there. However, Nvidia still dominates the AI chip market in China, and it's difficult to see its rivals catching up anytime soon. The company has twice re-engineered chips for the Chinese market to comply with U.S. rules.

Criticisms of small caps abound, though Hartman doesn't see any of them as valid reasons to ignore the group entirely. But to Hartman, those perceived flaws can actually be sound reasons to invest in small caps. "In the small-cap and micro-cap market, there's a lot of volatility," Hartman said in a recent interview with Insider. The small-cap fund also seemingly has no limit on the number of stocks it can hold. Investors can play the industrials sector with commercial aerospace stocks, Hartman said.

It insists the ties do not flout international norms, and China has the prerogative to collaborate with whichever country it chooses. The Russian Far East bordering China as well as North Korea has gained new strategic significance as a zone of cross-border trade and commerce. Chinese state media also says there is a growing "necessity" for China and Russia to step up their grain trading amid continued tight global supplies. REUTERS/Phil Noble/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsMELBOURNE, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Ionic Rare Earths (IXR.AX) said on Tuesday it has received UK government investment to build a commercial rare earth magnet recycling facility in Belfast that will supply Ford's (F.N) electric vehicle production facilities in the country. The UK government will support the partnership with an investment of £2 million ($2.50 million) as part of its push to support circular economy magnet rare earths, as the West diversifies supply chains away from China which produces almost all the world's magnet supply. Rare earths are the most magnetic of all metals, used in applications from wind farms to EVs to defence. To support production at this facility there will be a requirement for over 600 tonnes of magnet raw material per annum, it said in the release.

Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesU.S.-India relations entered a new chapter as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden announced a slew of technology and defense deals. "We were strangers in defense cooperation at the turn of the century, but now the United States has become one of our most important defense partners." That includes more military agreements, according to Atul Keshap, president of the U.S.-India Business Council, and former charge d'affaires at the United States Embassy in New Delhi said. And that is not contingent upon India supporting the United States down the line. "The U.S. understands that the human tech capital is a very important part of U.S. global leadership in innovation," said Singh, who previously served as India's ambassador to the United States.

By one metric, Nasdaq paid around what Thoma Bravo spent on creating Adenza through the merger of two software firms, the sources familiar with the deal said. Nasdaq also hopes to cut overlapping costs, which would boost profitability and make the deal look cheaper, one of the sources said. With Adenza, Nasdaq's recurring revenues, which investors like for their predictability, will comprise around 77% of overall revenues, up from 71%. A director at one of Nasdaq's largest shareholders, whose firm supports the Adenza deal, said there were few good companies left that could be synergistic to Nasdaq. One of the sources said once Nasdaq also cuts out costs, the multiple will be closer to the mid-20s.

Mandel Ngan | Afp | Getty ImagesThe U.S. and India are set to announce a slew of defense and technology collaborations on Thursday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit, U.S. officials said. India has overtaken China as the world's most populous country and is set to become the third-largest economy in the coming years. According to Reuters, Modi has not addressed a single press conference in India since he became prime minister in 2014, making this an extremely rare occasion. India and the U.S. are expected to announce a deal to jointly produce F414 jet engines in India, involving General Electric and Hindustan Aeronautics. Menon has discretion over several institutional clients' portfolios including endowments, foundations, pensions, and healthcare institutions. Regardless of expectations, Menon emphasizes that it's hard to build a portfolio around any particular macroeconomic outcome. This means creating a portfolio that prioritizes offensive assets through equities while adding defensive securities, she noted. When it comes to defensive positions, the two most important things a portfolio needs protection against are inflation and deflation. "Private equity would fall more in the space of offense in terms of generating long-term growth in a portfolio," Menon said.
Foxconn struck a deal in November to take a near-20% stake in the money-losing U.S. firm for up to $170 million. It has since invested $52.7 million and is balking at purchasing additional shares, citing a breach of their agreement, Lordstown said. "There is substantial doubt regarding our ability to continue as a going concern," Lordstown said in a filing, referring to its dispute with Foxconn over the investment deal. Their course of conduct has resulted in material — and what is becoming irreparable — harm to the company," Lordstown said in a statement. Lordstown shares, which at one point tumbled more than 50% on Monday, closed down 23%, or 12 cents, at 40 cents, in heavy trading.
