Read previewPicking a seat for a long-haul flight is daunting. And every time I book a long-haul flight, I'm stuck weighing the pros and cons. While business class is a luxury, I'd rather spend my money on my trip — not on my flight. Constant flushing, concerning noises, and unwelcome smells often accompany the last row of a domestic flight. Finally, I love the back of the plane because I think it's my best chance of sitting next to empty seats.

After having a great experience, we hoped to once again score upper-class tickets on the same route. For our return flight, the minimum bid was 47,000 rupees ($560) per ticket. Adding 1,000 rupees ($12) to the minimum bid each way, my husband decided to give it a shot. AdvertisementForty-eight hours before our scheduled departure, Virgin Atlantic emailed us that our bid for upper-class tickets had been accepted. However, since there's no guarantee of winning the bid, we'll always look for a good deal on business-class tickets first.

An Italian Coast Guard vessel carrying migrants rescued at sea passes near a tourist boat, on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa, Italy, September 18, 2023. The figure compares with the more than 145,000 sea migrants who have arrived in Italy so far this year, a sharp increase from 2022 which Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing government is keen to contain. Announcing the deal with Albania on Monday, Meloni said as many as 36,000 migrants per year could pass through the Albanian camps, but hitting this target depends on how quickly Italy can process asylum applications. The protocol states that Italy will shield Albania from any costs from legal action against the initiative. The facilities are more than 1,000 kilometres from Lampedusa, the island where most Italy-bound sea migrants currently land.

The ETIAS visa waiver program will allow entry into EU countries from $7.70. And, of course, citizens of many countries need “real” visas to EU countries – which is not only a costly process, but a time-consuming one, too. ETIAS will join the myriad accommodation and “tourist taxes” that are already charged around Europe. What other tourist taxes are there in Europe? If your ship docks at Barcelona for 12 hours or more you’ll pay 4.75 euros (3 euros regional fee and 1.75 euros city surcharge).

They also call into question the Greek coast guard’s version of events, suggesting more lives could have been saved, and may even point to fault on the part of Greek authorities. The Hellenic Coast Guard has declined to answer CNN’s specific requests for response to the survivor testimonies. The Greek coast guard has maintained that people onboard the trawler had refused rescue and insisted they wanted to continue their journey to Italy. The haunting final words sent from the migrant boat came just minutes before it capsized. Most of all, Mostafa says, he wishes the Greek coast guard had never approached their boat: “If they had left us be, we wouldn’t have drowned.”

A tentative deal on the table comes after years of damaging feuds between EU states since their cooperation collapsed in acrimony in 2015 as more than a million people - mostly fleeing the war in Syria - arrived across the Mediterranean. "We can only handle migration together as the whole EU." CAMPSFor nearly a decade, EU countries traded blame for handling new arrivals. On Thursday, the ministers will also discuss EU aid for Tunisia, which is a gateway for African migration to Europe and faces growing instability. Bad blood spilled over as eastern EU countries like Poland and Hungary refused to host anyone from the mainly-Muslim Middle East and North Africa.
