“Just because the child … appears not to like many vegetables, doesn’t mean that vegetables shouldn’t be incorporated into the meal,” she added. Familiarize your kids with new foods by engaging their senses, said Natalie Mokari, a dietitian in Charlotte, North Carolina. Maybe your kids tried the brussels sprouts and weren’t fans, but they love salad — so they can choose to have that instead, Woolford suggested. And requiring an empty plate may teach kids to push past and start to ignore their hunger and fullness cues, Woolford said. And instead of always having a sugary sweet after dinner, you could offer your kids a random dessert like a popsicle in the middle of the day, she added.

Maldon sea-salt flakes and Kirkland Signature grass-fed butter are essentials in my house. I pay $120 annually for an executive membership, which comes with a 2% reward of up to $1,000 on qualified Costco purchases. In my opinion, the Costco executive membership, which is double the price of its cheaper $60 gold-star option, offers the most value for customers. As long as I spend at least $3,000 annually, I make back the extra cost of the executive membership in rewards. Here's what I buy using my executive membership.

I think I had five jobs because they just weren’t working for what was going on in my personal life,” Koelsch told me. Now, she works four days from home, one day in the office, and her life is manageable. Remote work, and Washington State’s paid family and medical leave program, will make having another kid possible for her. One was the negative effect of the increased volatility and outrageous expense of child care (which I wrote about on Wednesday). I’ve seen a fair number of headlines over the past few years like this one, “WFH Goes From New Path to Dead End for Working Mothers,” and this one, “‘You Are Mommy Tracked to the Billionth Degree,’” suggesting that for ambitious moms, working from home is a mistake.

The Daily Hunt for Food in GazaFor two million hungry Gazans, most days bring a difficult search for something to eat. Amany Mteir, 52, scours the streets north of Gaza City, where people sell or trade what food they have. The war, including Israel’s bombardment and siege, has choked food imports and destroyed agriculture, and nearly the entire population of Gaza relies on scant humanitarian aid to eat. Most food shops in northern Gaza are damaged or closed, so vendors set up informal street markets to sell food and other items. An average of just six commercial trucks carrying food and other supplies have been allowed to enter Gaza each day since early December.

In an effort to cook more nutritious meals at home, I ate the same dinner for two weeks straight. I loved the easy prep work, thought my body felt better, and even looked forward to dinnertime. Preparing and eating dinner took only about 30 minutes, allowing me an extra half-hour to do something relaxing and enjoyable each night. AdvertisementBecause I don't track my weight or weigh myself, I can't confirm if I lost a few pounds but I felt better over the two weeks than I did in a while. Overall, I enjoyed the experiment and would try it againI'm glad I experimented with eating the same meal for two weeks.

How am I supposed to fit my whole life into a 9-to-5 work schedule? I recall the uncanny moment in my early work life of wondering, "What do people DO on a Tuesday night?" There are people who can't find a job, jobs with crummy pay or no benefits. “Las Vegas needs to be full service," he said last month. But by dawn Friday, the union had secured tentative labor deals with MGM Resorts, Caesars and Wynn Resorts, narrowly averting a sweeping strike at 18 hotel-casinos along the Strip. Before the pandemic, daily room cleanings were routine. Some companies say it's because there are environmental benefits to offering fewer room cleanings, like saving water. A spokesman for Wynn Resorts said they already offer daily room cleanings and did not cut back on that service during the pandemic.

That can mean setting boundaries with your partner about your needs when it comes to personal space, or preserving your relationship with a parent you are close with by setting boundaries on what you expect around your children. Parts of your life you avoid might point to places that need boundaries, Orange said. Tom Grill/Tetra images RF/Getty ImagesIdentifying your boundariesBefore you can set a boundary, you need to know what your boundaries are. She also likes to have her clients look at what they are avoiding, because that may often point to a place where boundaries need to be set. You are setting boundaries to protect your needs, not to control someone else’s behavior, she said.

When David Yun commissioned a custom sign to hang on the wall of his Korean-Southern tapas restaurant, C as in Charlie, he chose LED lighting over neon so that he could change the sign’s color on a whim. Soon, though, the hazy red glow spilling out onto the street became a calling card for the dugout-size restaurant in downtown Manhattan. “Red is risky,” Mr. Yun said. It shows our identity.”With its bright red sign, C as in Charlie joined a herd of restaurants that have embraced a certain aesthetic: dim interiors lit primarily in red. Rouge Room’s crimson-hued ceiling and backlighting smooths the shift from daytime — when the restaurant opens up to the pool at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa — to dinnertime, when the drapes close and ruby light reigns supreme.

Trader Joe's holds a special place in the heart of many Americans, largely due to its budget-friendly prices and unique offerings like Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Baked Lemon Ricotta and Soy Chorizo. Mercedes "Dee" Davis, an avid lover of Trader Joe's, grew a loyal following of her own after sharing her go-to products on her Instagram page. This inspired her to create an online space called "Black Girls in Trader Joe's" (BGITJ) where she shares her favorite buys from the popular supermarket chain. "The appeal for me was the uniqueness, the price point and the seasonality," Davis tells CNBC Make it. While a walk through the aisles of your local Trader Joe's can offer up a nearly endless supply of dinnertime options, there is one meal in particular that Davis says is easy to whip up for a family of four and costs $50 or less.

Many gig workers rely on tips to make ends meet, but some say tipping is getting worse. Three gig workers told Insider that people who appear to be wealthy are the worst tippers. Several delivery drivers replied to the story, and while a few related to Jay's experience, most of the workers Insider heard from said that the opposite was true in their experience: Rich people are the worst tippers. Drivers for companies like Uber and DoorDash say they're reliant on tips to make ends meet, but many of them have told Insider that tipping has gotten worse in recent years. When reached for comment, an Uber spokesperson told Insider that tipping has risen considerably for both Uber and Uber Eats over the last few years.
The 45-year-old lactation consultant won about $10,000 by suing the moving company. There weren't a lot of options available when it came to moving companies, but she eventually found Gold Standard Relocation. Everything seemed normal on Wagner's moving day — until the movers didn't show up and the company wouldn't answer the phone. She'd already paid the moving company about $4,300 to transport and store more than 70 boxes of her things and many furniture pieces for six months. Fraudulent moving companies will often offer customers a low estimate and deposit price, and then demand additional exorbitant fees after taking their belongings hostage.
Remote workers taking afternoons off are powering a boom in golfing and other leisure activities. Maganas, 60, is one of the many American remote workers powering an afternoon-leisure boom. That type of schedule, which Maganas has had for about 20 years, has become increasingly popular with the widespread adoption of remote work. Research from Nick Bloom, a Stanford University economist who's studied remote work for nearly 20 years, and his colleague Alex Finan tracks a rise in split schedules for those who are remote. For those considering a foray into the split schedule, Maganas recommends giving it a try and seeing whether it affects stress levels.
