HONG KONG, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Japanese restaurant owners in Hong Kong are grappling with a looming ban on seafood imports from 10 Japanese prefectures because of Tokyo's plan to release treated water from the crippled Fukushima plant into the sea from Aug. 24. Hong Kong is Japan's second largest market, after mainland China, for agricultural and fisheries exports. Although the details of Hong Kong's ban remains unclear, Halry Yu, 42, owner of Japanese restaurant Hassun, said more than 90% of seafood sent to Hong Kong is gathered in Tokyo. “If they ban imports that come via Tokyo, I think all sushi restaurants in Hong Kong will be in trouble. Advertising executive Hilda Lee, 30, said she enjoys eating Japanese seafood, and dines at Japanese restaurants two to three times each month.

CNN —Chick-fil-A’s first foray into the chicken sandwich wars was so successful that it’s launching a second entry, marking the first time the chain has altered its well-known fried chicken sandwich. That sense of urgency comes as competition in the chicken sandwich wars is escalating. Less than three months ago, chicken chain competitor Popeyes expanded its sandwich selection to permanently include the blackened chicken sandwich. The seasonal sandwich is the first time Chick-fil-A has experimented with their original fried chicken sandwich recipe. As both Chick-fil-A and Popeyes venture beyond the basic buttered bun and fried chicken, it will be consumers who will decide who rules the roost in this ever-expanding chicken sandwich market.

REUTERS/Toby MelvillePORTLAND, England, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Britain began moving some migrants on to a large residential barge on its southern coast on Monday, as part of plans to use cheaper alternatives to hotels as temporary accommodation while asylum claims are processed. The government says it wants to limit the "pull" factors attracting asylum seekers to Britain, where more than 50,000 are currently living in hotels after they made the final part of their journey in small dinghies across the Channel. The government has said the Bibby Stockholm barge will only house single men and provide "basic and functional" accommodation, along with healthcare provision, catering facilities and onboard security. "The welfare of asylum seekers in our care is of the upmost importance," a spokesperson for the interior ministry said.

Many also feel added pressure to tip amid the rise of automatic tipping prompts on self-service kiosks and apps, NerdWallet's consumer budgeting report found. Amid the "tipflation" debate, where are consumers tipping the least, or skipping gratuity altogether? To find out, CNBC Make It asked three New Yorkers which services they never tip on — and what etiquette experts recommend in each scenario. If it's fast food or you're grabbing a pre-packaged item from a shelf, Farley says you don't need to tip. An etiquette expert's take: When you're paying for a taxi or rideshare, you're paying the price of convenience, and your tip should reflect that, says Farley.

Gen Zers are the worst tippers

In a recent survey from Bankrate, Gen Z respondents were identified as the worst tippers. But like so many issues of the moment, Gen Z has a slightly different take and response to the situation. A recent survey from Bankrate found Gen Zers, or people 18-26 years old, are the generation least likely to tip. More than half of Baby Boomers surveyed tip at least 20%, but only a quarter of Gen Zers do. But just 22% of Gen Zers felt that way.

The Restaurant Service Charge Isn’t Going Anywhere
  + stars: | 2023-05-15 | by ( Priya Krishna | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Here’s a familiar restaurant scene: Dinner is over, the plates have been cleared and the server discreetly drops the bill on the table. But there’s something less familiar at the bottom of the check — a service charge, tacked on with little explanation. If not, should I leave more money? Is it rude if I ask my server any of this? “You shouldn’t have to ask,” said Chloe Lynn Oxley, a project manager in Washington, D.C., who dines out frequently and — like many diners — is often bewildered by the fees.
[1/5] U.S. President Joe Biden speaks to the U.S. governors and their spouses for a black-tie dinner in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S. February 11, 2023. REUTERS/Ken CedenoWASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden appealed to Republican and Democratic governors on Saturday to continue working across political divides to improve Americans' lives and rebuild the economy after the hardships brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at a black-tie dinner at the White House attended by Vice President Kamala Harris and 31 governors, Biden said the passage of laws on investing in infrastructure and domestic manufacture of semiconductors by both Republicans and Democrats was evidence of "some bipartisan progress." Republican Governor Spencer Cox of Utah, vice-chair of the National Governors Association, said it was "very symbolic" to have Republicans and Democrats "breaking bread together" at the White House. The bipartisan laws passed last year were gamechangers for the U.S. economy, New Jersey Governor Chris Murphy, a Democrat who chairs the association, told a governors' event at the White House on Friday.
Since 2020 adults aged 25 to 34 are living at home at higher rates than past generations, said the Census Bureau. According to the US Census Bureau, about 18% of men and 12% of women ages 25 to 34 were living with their parents in 2022. Barwig estimates she's saving about $30,000 a year. "I don't really spend a lot of money," she said. She's been able to maintain the job as a mostly remote employee at the Jersey Shore, where her parents live.
WASHINGTON, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Some Republicans on Sunday criticized Donald Trump for dining with white supremacist Nick Fuentes at the former president's Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida, even as Trump said the encounter was inadvertent. Also, I didn't know Nick Fuentes," Trump wrote. The White House slammed Trump, saying in a statement that "bigotry, hate, and antisemitism have absolutely no place in America — including at Mar-A-Lago." "To my friend Donald Trump, you are better than this. Even a social visit from an antisemite like Kanye West and human scum like Nick Fuentes is unacceptable," Friedman wrote on Twitter.
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., on Sunday criticized Donald Trump for dining with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and white supremacist Nick Fuentes, during a pre-Thanksgiving dinner at the former president's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida last week. “Well, he certainly needs better judgment in who he dines with,” Comer said in an interviews on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” "I know that he’s issued a statement. Pressed on whether he condemns Trump’s actions, Comer said he would not take a meeting with “that person,” nor Ye. Trump, who described the dinner held on the back patio as “quick and uneventful," is facing backlash for dining with Ye and Fuentes. Chris Christie, who was once a Trump ally, was among a handful of Republicans who jabbed Trump for hosting Fuentes.
But despite Trump’s suggestion the event was “uneventful,” the fallout over his dinner with Fuentes appears to have thrown Trump’s campaign into damage control mode. In addition to Giorno and Fuentes, Ye also brought along another man who was an associate, according to the sources. Fuentes attended that event and, after Trump said he denounced white supremacy at the rally, Fuentes denounced him for that. In his video debrief, Ye said that “Trump is really impressed with Nick Fuentes. “I’m like hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, Trump.
As recalled in the deeply felt and finely etched memoir-movie “The Fabelmans,” Steven Spielberg grew up in a family where one parent was an artist and the other an engineer. A more ideal background can scarcely be imagined for a film director, who must navigate overlapping creative and technical challenges on every project. His parents even provided young Steven with narrative sustenance: an appropriately cinematic family mystery that took him many years to understand and that has given much texture to his work. Like the best memoirs, “The Fabelmans,” which Mr. Spielberg co-wrote with his longtime collaborator Tony Kushner , drills down into experience with admirable specificity and frankness. Through Sammy’s eyes, we understand, as children do, that when something has always been the same way, it barely attracts attention.
