Republicans stand a good chance of erasing the Democrats’ narrow 51-49 Senate majority in November, a hard reality that complicates Harris' transition planning. Members of Harris’ transition team have studied that one — the handoff from Ronald Reagan to George H.W. Harris' team is operating under an unusually compressed timeline and is still building the basic apparatus needed to vet potential hires and staff an administration. Last month, Harris' campaign appointed Yohannes Abraham to run the team that is preparing for a transfer of power. He came to his new role with direct experience, having been executive director of Biden’s transition in 2020.

Moody's estimates that between 2023 and 2028, the electricity usage in data centers will grow 43% yearly. That's not including the energy-intensive process of constructing even more data centers, which Big Tech is scrambling to do. Business Insider spoke with three market experts to get their thoughts on what companies are best positioned to succeed as AI's appetite for energy strains existing infrastructure. Baker is betting on the utilities and cooling solutions providers that service the energy needs of data centers. The American weapon, the Mid-Range Capability missile system, has drawn China's ire. The MRC, also known as Typhon, is the US Army's new ground-based missile system capable of firing both the Standard Missile 6 and Tomahawk Land Attack missile. The Typhon system fills a gap in the US arsenal, offering a particularly versatile new land-based intermediate-range missile option as US rivals develop and field similar capabilities. Its ongoing deployment has angered China, which has repeatedly demanded the missile system be removed and accused the US of fueling an arms race.

The US military deployed its Mid-Range Capability, or Typhon, missile system to the Philippines in April, and US military officials have expressed interest in deploying it in Japan. The MRC is a versatile new ground-based missile system that is capable of firing the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile System. The US military deployed the missile system overseas for the first time in April, putting it in the Philippines amid a joint exercise between the two militaries. AdvertisementWhile the new weapon wasn't fired during the exercise, its presence in the region irked China, which demanded the system be removed. In the flood of election polls you’ll see over the next few weeks, most polling groups will include responses from “likely voters.” And often from nobody else. In theory, these poll numbers should yield more accurate results, since the people who actually vote are the ones who dictate the outcome on Election Day. After all, how exactly can a pollster know who is “likely” to vote, and who therefore will be the focus of their results? The choices they make are important, because the results of likely-voter polls can differ from those that sample a wider population, such as everyone who is registered to vote. In a close race like this year’s presidential contest, one candidate might lead in a poll among likely voters, while another might lead in the same poll’s tally of registered voters.

Ray Dalio said the 2024 U.S. elections will likely be the most important of his lifetime and he thinks the country needs a "strong leader of the middle." "As far as the election goes, it's going to be the most consequential election of my lifetime because we now have irreconcilable differences between the two sides," he said. "The first question we'll ask is: will we have an orderly transition of power? We have the question- the fact that it is possible — that election results may not be accepted — that's quite something." On Wednesday, Dalio had named the elections as a major force shaping the global economy, calling it an "issue of internal order and disorder."

Investors are also looking to the Bank of Japan's interest rate decision on Friday, when it is expected to keep its short-term policy rate target steady at 0.25%. Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem meanwhile opened the door to stepping up the pace of interest rate cuts, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. The BoC, after keeping its key policy rate at 5%, a more than two-decade high, for a year, has trimmed it by a quarter point three times in a row since June.

LONDON — European stocks are set to open higher Friday as investors continue to digest the European Central Bank's decision to cut rates and its impact on future monetary policy. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 is seen opening 1 point higher at 8,239, France's CAC up 20 points at 7,448, Germany's DAX 57 points higher at 18,563 and Italy's FTSE MIB up 41 points at 33,484 ,according to IG data.
