The rise of the job-search bots

Unlike the other bots, which ingested job openings into their own sites, LazyApply submitted applications via external job boards. Still, I came away from my time among the job-search bots feeling the way I do about much of AI.

After a routine iPhone update, a new Journal app recently appeared. The app promises meaningful reflection, apparently gleaned from my phone usage, that I can share with people around me via Bluetooth. There's actually a reason — and it has to do with the same avian flu outbreak that made eggs so expensive last year. AdvertisementLast year, egg prices went through the roof, with prices more than doubling in certain US states. Because so many chickens died from the flu, egg producers had to adapt. The good news is that egg prices have normalized, thankfully (although they're still more expensive than 2019). That means the worst of the flu outbreak is over, and production is back up.

The Joy of Stoop Books
  + stars: | 2024-02-24 | by ( Sam Dolnick | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
My life, like yours, I suspect, can feel like it has been ingeniously designed for the sole purpose of strangling serendipity. It is a neighborhood stoop, or rather, the discarded books that gather there. For you, maybe that translates into a bargain bin or a giveaway pile; wherever you can find books that are weathered, dog-eared and inscribed to someone else. Why do I love other people’s books? Found books, meanwhile, are blissfully dislocated from any hint of duty or “discourse.” They are deserted islands.

“The Golden Bachelor” showed that sex is not just for spring chickens. Hearing aids and making out in a hot tub can go blissfully together. Now comes the Golden President. Even though fretful questions about his age have engulfed Joe Biden’s campaign, one thing is clear: His romance with Jill is still crackling. At a party at his house at the Naval Observatory when he was vice president, he told me about the frisson of watching his wife come down the stairs, dressed up for a special occasion.

It is terrifying to reckon with the very real possibility that my son could be taken from me by gun violence. After all, in the U.S., firearms are the leading cause of death in children and teens. How can I take my son to a parade, the movies or even a bowling alley without wondering if I put him in harm’s way? I take comfort in knowing that, for now, my son is safe inside my womb, blissfully unaware that he could ever be in danger. Soon enough, he will face a hard truth: Try as she might, his mother will not always be able to protect him.

About a half-hour before a mid-August Brooklyn Cyclones game, a family of three, a reporter and a middle-aged man dressed in a Jedi robe walked into an elevator at Maimonides Park. As the door closed and they began their ascent, the Jedi turned to the others and asked, “So, what planet are you all from?”“Um, Brooklyn,” responded the matriarch of the family. The Jedi proceeded to hum “Mad About Me,” by the Mos Eisley Cantina house band, Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, as if to tell them he was from the planet Tatooine. Out beyond the right-field wall, in the area known as the Backyard, a few hundred others were pounding brews and playing cornhole, blissfully unaware that a baseball game — the event that their ticket said they had paid to see — was about to begin. For decades, Copenhagen has been lauded for its design, its food, its dedication to sustainability, even the general good cheer of its residents. London CNN —The last time a British finance minister unveiled a “budget for growth,” UK financial markets crashed and mortgage rates shot up, threatening to tip an already weak economy into a deep recession. But he will deliver his budget against essentially the same gloomy backdrop: the UK economy is stuck in the doldrums. SVB could depress UK bank lendingAnother factor that could weigh on the UK economy in the near term: Silicon Valley Bank. “It is likely that UK financial conditions will remain tighter (or potentially significantly tighter) over coming months than they would have been without the US banking troubles,” Pickering said in a research note Monday.

Her manager apologized in the message he sent to her and informed her that she had been laid off, she said. "People are really really upset with how this happened and I think everybody, even the top performers, are really on edge after this," she added.
