In a bid to coax Donald Trump back onto the debate stage with Vice President Kamala Harris, Democrats plan to launch a new messaging campaign dubbing the former president a "chicken" for saying he won't debate again. The chicken billboards, which will first appear at Trump's rally Monday in Indiana, Pennsylvania, include a digitally altered image of Trump in a chicken suit alongside the words "There's no debate: Donald Trump's a chicken." Harris and Trump met for their first debate, hosted by ABC News, this month in Philadelphia. On Saturday, Harris' campaign announced that she'd accepted CNN's invitation to participate in a debate on Oct. 23. The Trump campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired Sunday, FTC Chair Lina Khan said allowing Big Tech to go through hundreds of acquisitions in the past several decades was a mistake that hurt Americans. An FTC spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. "After some of those firms were bought up by one of the big guys, all of those data privacy policies changed overnight, and so Americans lost those privacy protections." A WhatsApp spokesperson told BI at the time that the company disagreed with the decision and that the penalties were "entirely disproportionate." An FTC spokesperson told CNN in 2023 that, under Khan, the agency has investigated or sued to stop more than three dozen merger proposals.

Trump may hold meetings with world leaders that his campaign does not announce in advance, explained sources close to the campaign. “While President Biden will be there, he will be there as a lame duck. Since leaving office, Trump has held regular conversations with foreign leaders. Foreign leaders are among the most ardent consumers of American political news, looking for clues of what the future may hold through polls, private conversations and diplomatic information gathering. It’s not unprecedented for presidential candidates to line up meetings with foreign leaders ahead of an election.

Read previewWhen you put the Harris-Walz campaign's media strategy side-by-side with that of Trump-Vance, one major difference stands out: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are barely talking to the press. Both Donald Trump and JD Vance's many press interviews have sparked negative news cycles. Atkeson also gave the analogy that the effect of Harris' media strategy on voters is like what happens when a romantic relationship first begins. So the contrast could be something that doesn't look good optically for the Harris campaign." Though the Harris campaign did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, a spokesperson told The New York Times that more press interviews are coming.

In the past, such a drumbeat of controversy in the final weeks of the campaign might have given voters pause, even prompting shifts in the race. “We are on overload with wild stories every news cycle,” said David Kochel, a longtime Republican strategist and a veteran of several presidential campaigns. Election observers worry that delays in counting mail ballots could give the public a false sense of who’s winning the election. In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, election officials are still barred from beginning to process mail ballots before 7 a.m. on Election Day – even though election workers in both states have clamored for change. Georgia's State Election Board members discuss proposals for election rule changes at the State Capitol in Atlanta on September 20, 2024.
