CNN —The Supreme Court ruled Friday in favor of an Oregon city that ticketed homeless people for sleeping outside, rejecting arguments that such “anti-camping” ordinances violate the Constitution’s ban on “cruel and unusual” punishment. The case centered on “anti-camping” ordinances in Grants Pass, Oregon, that were challenged by several residents experiencing homelessness. “For some people, sleeping outside is their only option.” The city, she said, “punishes them for being homeless. The ordinances barred people from sleeping in public with “bedding,” which can include sleeping bags or bundled-up clothing. In reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling, housing rights groups came out in full force to condemn the decision.

On Monday, the longtime Club holding unveiled its long-awaited generative AI initiatives, known as Apple Intelligence. It means that Apple's new AI tools should be able to boost lagging iPhone sales, which make up roughly half of the company's overall revenue. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which were released last year, are the only versions of the smartphone currently compatible with Apple Intelligence. "Even if iPhone 15 users don't upgrade right away, they now have a very good reason to do it sooner than they otherwise would have. Taken together, these suite of features show that Siri is getting the makeover that Jim Cramer recently argued would be crucial for an iPhone upgrade cycle to ensue.

Mr. Biden will almost assuredly make jokes at Mr. Trump’s expense and poke fun at the Washington press corps. But Mr. Biden could also take a victory lap for a spate of good news in recent days. On Thursday, Mr. Biden promoted a $6.1 billion grant to a chip manufacturer that he said would bolster the nation’s supply of semiconductors, contributing to what he has labeled “the great American comeback story.”And on Friday, Mr. Biden made a surprise visit to “The Howard Stern Show,” hosted by America’s best-known shock jock. The president spoke at length about deeply personal events, showing an emotionally vulnerable side to Mr. Stern’s large audience of middle-class Americans. And, in a notable shift, he said he would debate Mr. Trump.

Should the Israeli regime commit any military aggression again, Iran's response will assuredly and decisively be stronger and more resolute,” Ambassador Iravani added. Citing self-defense against repeated Israeli military aggressions, Iravani said the strikes were specifically in retaliation to an Israeli attack on April 1 against what Iran says were diplomatic facilities in Damascus. Iran claims the attack violated international law and led to the death of seven Iranian military advisors, including key commanders from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The statement also criticizes the United Nations Security Council for “failing to uphold international peace,” allowing Israel to “breach” established international norms and “escalate” regional tensions. However an Israel Defense Forces spokesman told CNN that their intelligence showed the building was not a consulate and was instead “a military building of Quds forces disguised as a civilian building.”

Businesses have come up with workarounds that protect individuals’ liberty while giving investors the assurance they need to commit lots of money to companies. Two years ago, I wrote about how noncompete agreements have been abused to trap workers and suppress wages of mid- and low-level workers, such as employees of fast-food restaurants. For high-level executives such as Altman and Brockman, there is a stronger argument for noncompete agreements. Bloomberg reported in October that OpenAI was in talks to sell existing employees’ shares at a price that would value the overall company at $86 billion. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in objecting to the F.T.C.’s proposed rule about noncompete agreements, cited its economist John McAdams, who wrote in 2019 in a research paper for the F.T.C.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced his administration secured agreements with China to resume military communications and combat fentanyl after his first in-person meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a year. “Vital miscalculations on either side can cause real, real trouble with a country like China – or any other major country,” Biden said. During the press conference, Biden added that he believes the ultimate answer to the war in Gaza is a two-state solution. Biden mentioned he raised concerns about China’s human rights and tension between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea. Overall, though, Biden presented an optimistic view about future relations with China.

[1/4] Residents in vehicles attempt to leave the city of Stepanakert following a military operation conducted by Azerbaijani armed forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, a region inhabited by ethnic Armenians, September 24, 2023. Whatever the history and the lack of independent reports on events inside the isolated territory, several international legal experts believe the mass flight fits the legal definition of a war crime. For Azerbaijan, however, retaking control of Nagorno-Karabakh helps to redress the traumas of 1988-94. "It would almost assuredly result in the forced displacement of Armenians from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the widespread commission of genocidal atrocities, reflecting those committed in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War of 2020 and subsequent hostilities," it said. "If the Armenians of Artsakh were to be displaced ... it would result in the genocidal destruction of a people, as the Artsakh Armenians would lose their distinct identity."

But, while unusual, Tuberville's office notes that lawmakers from both parties have threatened holds on military promotions over the years. Fearless Media is a newsletter about the future of entertainment, media, and tech by Creative Media chairman Peter Csathy . Disney CEO Bob Iger's comments regarding the strikers may hint at his deeper M&A state of mind. Still, some open government and civil rights advocates are already raising concerns that the government's move toward using AI to help address FOIA problems may create new ones. So far, government agencies haven't widely disclosed to the public what kinds of AI tools are being used, and in what fashion, Marshall said. But experts widely agree the FOIA process must be modernized and fixed, as requests can sometimes take months, even years, to fulfill. An increasing number of requesters have turned to the courts for help in prying records loose in a timely manner. The state department is now testing two AI models to help process FOIA requests, Stein said.

Compounding worries that this would lead to a more hawkish central bank, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Lorie Logan said on Thursday that a continued above-target inflation outlook and a stronger-than-expected labor market "calls for more-restrictive monetary policy." Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, had gone unnoticed in Venice last month. He was in town for the same wedding that had brought al-Rumayyan to Venice. If the motor sports executive spotted the PGA Tour’s leader, he would assuredly connect the presences of Monahan and al-Rumayyan, and golf’s greatest secret might get out. The civil war that had disrupted and defined the once genteel sport — for example, Monahan once publicly asked whether PGA Tour players had ever felt compelled to apologize for competing on the circuit — was abruptly suspended. The tour’s reputation was stained and many of its loyalists were furious, but its coffers were poised to overflow.

SEOUL — For more than six months, Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, has seemingly been giving the world an unprecedented glimpse into his private life. The first set of photos revealed a ponytailed girl in red shoes strolling hand in hand with Mr. Kim around a Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile. Later, she’s gazing into his eyes at a celebration for weapons scientists and tenderly patting his shoulder at a military parade. State media has released the daddy-daughter images on over a dozen occasions since November, assuredly choreographed from curls to gloves. Now that the country’s routine missile tests aren’t generating the headlines he craves, Mr. Kim appears to be leveraging his daughter’s global star power.

But the tug that Henry exerts on his father’s heart, while scarcely new, is ever more evident — in particular during the goodbyes that close the episode, when Ted can scarcely let go of Henry’s backpack. NateWhen we first run across Nate this episode, he is in bed in the morning. Upon waking, she quickly determines that, charmingly, Nate had already gotten up, showered, shaved, brushed his teeth and gotten back into bed. We’ve gone straight from romantic tension to romantic fulfillment without witnessing the romantic journey at all, at least so far. Which is perhaps part of the reason Nate’s most moving relationship is still his complicated one with Ted.
