Joy’s had always been an unusually sensitive nose, the inheritance, she believes, of her maternal line. Les only learned of Joy’s peculiar nose well after their relationship began, on a trip to the Scandinavian far north. Joy would not stop going on about the creamy odor of the tundra, or what she insisted was the aroma of the cold itself. Faced with the prospect of tending to his mother alone, however, Les begged her to stay in Scotland. He trained as a doctor, she as a nurse; they married during his residency.

Like millions of exercise enthusiasts, I've tried standard yoga classes but wondered if hot yoga could improve my flexibility or help with stress levels. Here's what happened when I did hot yoga every day for a month. This difference was really noticeable during a stressful period at work, and my body started to crave the hot-yoga classes. Lara WalshAfter a month of doing hot yoga, I was hooked.

The Israeli ground-and-air operation in the eastern part of Rafah on Tuesday further hampered the area’s struggling medical system. Fearing a raid by Israeli forces, like those that have been carried out at hospitals across Gaza, the medical staff at al-Najjar rushed to relocate more than 200 patients. But even during the scramble to evacuate the hospital, Israeli airstrikes on Rafah continued. The Israeli military’s actions also immediately limited access to more basic health services across Rafah. That delegation was also supposed to deliver the salaries of the aid group’s medical workers in Rafah — cash they desperately needed to secure housing and transportation during the chaotic evacuation.

In July Michael Puglia drove home with what seemed like the coolest vehicle he’d ever own — a Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. It was big enough to haul around his children and all their hockey gear. Once, after Mr. Puglia had driven 35 miles to an ice rink, his range fell by 73 miles. Another time, a 60-mile jaunt reduced his range by 110 miles. Several trips to the dealership for software updates didn’t fix the problem, leaving Mr. Puglia wondering whether he should keep the $79,000 truck.

CNN —The longstanding problem of pulse oximeters providing less-accurate readings for people with dark skin tones is getting another look from a panel of experts for the US Food and Drug Administration. The FDA’s Anesthesiology and Respiratory Therapy Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee is meeting Friday to review ways to better evaluate the accuracy and performance of pulse oximeters in patients with darker skin. Pulse oximeters are fingertip clamps that send light beams through your finger to estimate the oxygen saturation of your blood and your pulse rate. “That standard is then applied to all people as a one-size-fits-all, but time and again, we have seen in medicine that this approach leads to poor outcomes for certain groups, especially Black patients,” Ibekie said. “We need to address the root and work harder to conduct research with patients that represent our populations as a whole,” she said.

The Alabama attorney general's office told federal appeals court judges last week that nitrogen hypoxia is "the most painless and humane method of execution known to man." The execution would be the first attempt to use a new method since lethal injection was introduced in 1982. Three states — Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma — have authorized nitrogen hypoxia as an execution method. The Alabama attorney general's office noted that Smith, when previously fighting lethal injection, had suggested nitrogen as an alternative execution method. Courts require inmates challenging their execution method to suggest an alternative method.

Turning a $200,000 loan to a $200,000 annual incomeTaking out $200,000 in student loans wouldn't make sense for a lot of people. Health conditions like colon cancer and cardiovascular diseases impact people within the Black community at much higher rates than most other racial backgrounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And even after the onset of life-threatening conditions, systemic issues lead to health disparities that prevent many Black people from accessing the resources they need. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV): "In 2019, Blacks/African Americans represented 13% of the U.S. population, but 40% of people with HIV," says HIV.gov. Colon cancer: In 2016, Black men had the highest incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer, when compared to other racial groups, per CDC data.
Shortly after the accident in Spring, Texas, local police said they believed the crash occurred with no one in the driver's seat, raising questions about Tesla's driver-assistance systems and prompting widespread media coverage. In October 2021, the NTSB said both the driver and passenger seats were occupied during the crash. The NTSB said "footage from the owner’s home security camera shows the owner entering the car’s driver’s seat and the passenger entering the front passenger seat." This evidence indicated that TACC was not engaged during the crash trip." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which regulates vehicle safety and is also investigating the incident, did not immediately comment.
Police in northern Durango state early on Tuesday morning arrested the doctor, an anesthesiologist, who prosecutors accuse of distributing infected medicines they believe led to the mysterious outbreak. The doctor is changed with illegal re-use of drugs at the private hospitals where he worked. The cases have raised concern in both Mexico and from international bodies after the outbreak's first casualty was confirmed last November. Garza added that the detained doctor was the only physician who conducted procedures at the four hospitals where patients were infected. The meningitis outbreak has been confined to private hospitals in the state capital, also known as Durango, according to Mexico's health ministry.
