CNN —The dramatic dismissal of the involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin over withheld evidence could mean the release of convicted “Rust” movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed from a New Mexico state prison, legal experts say. But the Baldwin case imploded on Friday – just two days after the trial began – with the sudden and shocking twists and turns of a nail-biting legal thriller. “I fully expect Hannah Gutierrez Reed to make the same argument for her conviction to be overturned,” Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told CNN. Her ruling regarding the failure to disclose the ammunition should carry significant weight in the Gutierrez Reed case, CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson said. Hannah Gutierrez Reed will go free as well.

PARIS, March 8 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday he backed including the right to abortion in the constitution, a move he said would send a signal of solidarity to women around the world. She was a staunch defender of the right to abortion. The move comes after the U.S. Supreme Court last June overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that recognised women's constitutional right to abortion. Both houses of the French parliament have already voted in favour of enshrining the right in the constitution, although the Senate termed it a "freedom" and the National Assembly a "right" to abortion. Macron said a bill would be submitted to parliament to change the constitution in the coming months.

As a result, the committee voted Monday to recommend criminal charges to the Department of Justice against Trump and several of his associates. However, making the case for a federal criminal prosecution is the responsibility of the U.S. Department of Justice rather than Congress. Ironically, in trying to hold Trump accountable under the law, the committee seems to be flouting the rule of law. The Jan. 6 committee’s referrals have no legal weight; the Justice Department alone will decide whether to charge Trump. Rather than duplicate the efforts of Justice, Congress needs to complement those efforts by broadly addressing the other factors that contributed to the events on Jan. 6.

The House vote was ongoing, with a majority already voting in favor. It is narrowly written to act as a limited backstop for the 2015 Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, known as Obergefell v. Hodges. The Supreme Court in 1967 declared prohibitions on interracial marriage unconstitutional. But the legislation would not bar states from blocking same-sex or interracial marriages if the Supreme Court allowed them to do so. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on Monday wrote her first opinion since taking office over the summer, objecting to the Supreme Court’s decision not side with an Ohio death row inmate’s claim.
