President Joe Biden hosted a formal ceremony Wednesday to publicly celebrate his executive order establishing an initiative to increase funding for Hispanic-serving institutions and create a board of advisors on HSIs. Flores said the executive order shows a federal understanding of how crucial HSIs are to the future of the nation. The more than 500 HSIs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico serve more than 4.7 million students every year, according to federal data. Many students are low-income, and nearly a third are eligible for Pell grants, which are federal scholarships for students in need. “The president’s executive order will strengthen these critical institutions and build their capacity to provide economic mobility for all their students.”

McDonald’s franchises haven’t been able to fix the soft serve ice cream machines on their own because manufacturing company Taylor owns the copyright and exclusive rights to fix the machines — until now. The inability to make timely fixes has been a bane of the customers’ existence, so much so, that there’s a third-party website called McBroken.com that tracks their availability. Broken ice cream machines have been such a blemish on McDonald’s reputation that even competitors mock them for it. And perhaps a fix can’t come quick enough: Nearly 15% of ice cream machines are broken as of Monday, according to McBroken.

Crypto companies, executives, and super PACs have spent huge sums this election cycle, outspending even perennial big spenders like the Koch family, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The crypto industry has outspent every other industry, injecting almost $120 million into federal races as of August, according to OpenSecrets, a nonprofit that tracks campaign spending. Trump said in his speech that he had held a meeting earlier in the day with Muslim leaders.
