That’s how Mark Robinson’s aides characterize any attention to his diatribes against Jewish people, gay people, women. They want voters in North Carolina, where he is the Republican nominee for governor, to see him as just another conservative whose straight talk and religiousness come under predictable fire from the ambassadors of wokeness. And Robinson’s fate will be an especially revealing referendum on just how much, in the America of 2024, tribalism trumps common sense and common decency and voters tune out the truth. The governor’s race pits Robinson, who’d be North Carolina’s first Black governor, against Josh Stein, the Democrat, who’d be its first Jewish one. And they’re the very foundation of his improbable political career: He was elected lieutenant governor of North Carolina in 2020 almost solely on the basis of a single speech in opposition to sensible restrictions on firearms.

However, experts who treat and study menopause say the study is unable to draw a direct connection to later-life dementia and that the overall benefits of hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, far outweigh the risks for many patients. “One finding in the study was a link between dementia and the use of HRT for a very short time span, under a year. Researchers compared people with dementia who had used hormone therapy, even briefly, with those from the larger group who had not. The chance of being diagnosed with dementia went up with years spent on HRT, the study found. When women used 12 or more years of hormone therapy, the association with a diagnosis of dementia rose to 74%, Pourhadi said.

Zero, zip, zilch: The U.S. tax code has a 0% rate on investment income, even for Americans with significant assets. The waning days of this tax-filing season are a good time to think about how to use it in the future. The zero rate isn’t a secret. It has been in effect since 2008, and nearly 11 million filers—about 7%—qualified for it in 2020, according to the latest Internal Revenue Service data. That total included about 34,000 filers earning $1 million or more.
