Members of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the Israeli military put in place the Trident Pier, a temporary pier to deliver humanitarian aid, on the Gaza coast on May 16. The content of the ships is inspected in Cyprus, then the aid is moved on the pier by trucks already on the ships to a facility on shore. This is where the UN would oversee the process of loading the aid on local trucks and send the aid to north and south Gaza, the official explained. Since the content was already searched in Cyprus, the UN doesn’t expect much delay at Israeli checkpoints except to inspect drivers’ paperwork. The aid will go to the northern part of the strip on one day and to the south on the next.

CNN —Time is running out to prevent starvation in Darfur, in western Sudan, a UN agency has warned, as escalating violence devastates the African nation. People have been forced to consume “grass and peanut shells,” the regional director for Eastern Africa of the World Food Programme (WFP) said on Friday. More than 8.7 million people have been displaced by the war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary RSF, according to the UN. At least 500,000 of those sheltering in the city have been displaced from violence elsewhere in Sudan, according to the UN’s children’s agency (UNICEF). The Israeli leader’s claim contradicts statements he made previously, in which he boasted about permitting “minimal humanitarian aid” to enter Gaza. “We provide minimal humanitarian aid,” Netanyahu said at a press conference in January.
