The teen faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and violation of a no-contact order, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities also learned the teen claimed self-defense after fatally shooting his father on Valentine's Day last year in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, Judd said. He was accused of assaulting her in November and arrested, Judd said. The teen claimed self-defense, Judd said, but the grandmother disputed the teen's account and he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence battery, the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office in Charlotte County, where the alleged assault occurred, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tight inventory, combined with pent-up demand, kept prices in an uptrend last year despite 23-year-high mortgage rates, according to Selma Hepp, CoreLogic's chief economist. CD rates have climbed dramatically since the Federal Reserve embarked on its campaign to fight inflation, which peaked at nearly 10% late last year. But the Fed faces a conundrum: Hiking interest rates to fight inflation also slows economic growth. Short term rates remain high, while longer term rates—reflecting grim economic prospects in years to come—fall off.

In case you needed more evidence of how much home prices have skyrocketed: Even as the housing market was cooling over the summer, prices still rose in 98% of US markets, according to a new report. From July through September, home prices increased in 181 out of 185 cities tracked by the National Association of Realtors. But the gains had slowed substantially as mortgage rates rose during that time. “Much lower buying capacity has slowed home price growth and the trend will continue until mortgage rates stop rising,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist. Yun said that because of strong price growth and rising mortgage rates, the median income needed to buy a typical home rose to $88,300 in the third quarter.

A Florida father and his 15-year-old son were arrested on attempted murder charges after they shot at a woman who they mistakenly believed was trying to break into their home, officials said. The woman threw her car into reverse in an attempt to back out of the way, and crashed into a car behind her in the frantic escape. The teenage son heard the commotion and neared the car and thought “our victim is trying to back into him” and he opened fire, Judd said. Both Colonacosta and his son started shooting into the car as the woman sped away. The sheriff said neither Colonacosta or his son had criminal records until Saturday morning, adding, “our goal is for them to go to prison.
